Journal of Agricultural Medicine & Community Health 2009;34(1):47-57
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to identify the health promotion behavior, health problem, perceived health status and farmers' syndrome of rural residents. METHODS: The subjects of this study were 637 adults of 19 primary health care post extracted from 1.875 primary health care post in Korea by quota sampling method. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation. RESULTS: The average score of health promotion behavior was 2.23. In the sub-scales, the highest degree of performance was 'nutrition', followed by 'spiritual growth' and the lowest degree of performance was 'physical activity'. The most prevalent health problem was ailments in 'musculoskeletal system', followed by 'fatigue', 'eyes and ears', 'cardiovascular system'. The mean score of perceived health status was 8.54. The prevalence of farmers' syndrome was 98.4%. Health promotion behavior showed a significant positive correlation health status and perceived health status showed a significant negative farmers' syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: With the above findings, rural residents' physical activity is less than urban residents', and the rural resident's score of perceived health status, musculoskeletal system and fatigue are lower than urban residents'. The farmers' syndrome of the rural people is high. A tailored health promotion program for rural community is needed to develop in the consideration of these findings.

Korean Journal of Perinatology 1997;8(2):193-200
The development of leukemia during pregnancy is rare and difficult to diagnosis and treatment. Acute leukemias are among the most common malignant neoplasms of young women, but paradoxically, their incidence complicating pregnancy is cited to be 0.9 to 1.2 cases per 100,000. l'he signs and symptoms of acut:e leukemia may mask the signs and symptoms of early pregnancy. 'I'he occurrence of acute leukemia during pregnancy raises many therapeut,ic and ethical dilemmas because of the potential tetatogenic effects of chemotherapy and the danger of fetal wastage, in addition to the well-known problem of marrow suppression in the mother. We experienced a case where diagnosis of a woman at the 15 gestational weeks revealed acute lymphocytic leukemia and immediate treatment. as well as termination of pregnancy was made to prevent abnormal neonatal birth. We present this case with review of related literatures.

more efficient tooth movement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different static magnetic fields of ND-Fe-B magnet on MC3T3-E1 cells by measuring the alkaline phosphatase activity and observing the amount of stained alkaline phosphatase. For measuring of alkaline phosphatase activity, MC3T3-E1 cells were seeded in first and third row of 12 well culture plate. And Nd-Fe-B magnets were positioned under the first column of first and third row to apply different static magnetic fields(first column:100mT ; second column:4.6mT ; third column:0.5mT ; forth column:0.0mT) to the cells for 7, 13, 19, and 25 days. For staining of alkaline phosphatase, MC3T3-E1 cells were seeded in 100mm culture plates. And Nd-Fe-B magnets were positioned under the corner of plates to apply different static magnetic fields(magnet side:100mT ; the opposite side:0.5mT) to the cells for 7, 13, 19 and 25 days. The results were as follows : 1. ALP activity was increased until day 19 in biochemical determination as well as in histochemical staining. 2. The application of higher magnetic field(100mT) suppressed ALP activity at day 13, 19, 25. On the contrary, the application of the lower magnetic field(4.6mT, 0.5mT) significantly enhanced the ALP activity. 3. Consistent with enzyme assay, histochemical staining of ALP also demonstrated that higher magnetic field(100mT) suppressed ALP activity, lower one(0.5mT) enhanced.

This study was conducted to examine the metal release of TiN-plated stainless steel orthodontic appliances by constructing the simulated orthodontic appliances equivalent to maxillary half arch, by dividing into TiN-plated and TiN-nonplated groups and by dividing again these groups into welded and nonwelded groups. And then, the total quantity of metal release was obtained by measuring the amounts of both soluble and precipitated nickel and chromium after immersing in artificial saliva for 15 days. And then, the corrosion appearance of surface structure was observed by using SEM. The results of this study were summarized as follows. 1. The total amounts of released nickel and chromium showed that the TiN-plated group after welding (Group I) was 25.46microgram, respectively, and 17.4microgram, while the TiN-nonplated group after welding(Group III) was 54.69microgram, respectively, and 85.27microgram. Then, the TiN-plated group indicated less amounts of metal release(p<0.05). 2. The total amounts of the TiN-plated group without welding (Group II) was 0.05microgram and 0.34microgram, respectively. Then, it was shown that the TiN-plated group without welding(Group II) indicated less metal release than that of the TiN-plated group after welding(Group I)(p<0.01, p<0.05). 3. When observing their surface structure, there were a lot of precipitate and pitting corrosion in the groups with welding(Group I & III), when the TiN-plated group(Group I) showed lower level than the TiN-nonplated group(Group III). On the other hand, the groups without welding(Group II & IV) indicated a little of pitting corrosion. 4. In case of observation with the naked eyes, it was shown that there were significant discoloration and corrosion in the groups with welding(Group I & III), while there was no any remarkable change in the groups without welding(Group II & IV).

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of auricular acupressure therapy on decreasing smoking rates, desire for smoking, and exhaled carbon monoxide in male college students. METHODS: The quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used in this study. The participants (n=56) were assigned to the experimental group (n=29) that received auricular acupressure therapy or the control group (n=27) that received placebo therapy. The therapy was applied for 5 days followed by 1 or 2 days of rest. The therapy was repeated 2 times. To identify the effect of the experimental treatments, assessments of smoking rates, desire for smoking and exhaled carbon monoxide were measured. Data were analyzed using chi2 test, Fisher's exact test, t-test and Repeated measure ANOVA with the SPSS version 21.0 program. RESULTS: The experimental group showed significantly lower smoking rates (t=6.60, p<.001), desire for smoking (t=3.37, p=.002) and exhaled carbon monoxide levels (t=6.22, p<.001) after application of the therapy. Significant groupxtime interaction effect was found in exhaled carbon monoxide levels between the experimental group and the control group (F=8.73, p=.001). CONCLUSION: Auricular acupressure therapy was considered to likely be useful as a therapeutic intervention for smoking cessation in male young adults.
