Intestinal tuberculosis (TB) is presented with nonspecific and variable clinical manifestations such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever and weight loss. Diagnosis of tuberculous enteritis may be missed or confused with many other chronic gastrointestinal disorders such as the Crohn disease and intestinal neoplasms. The diagnosis should be based on careful clinical evaluations, such as extra-intestinal signs and colonoscopic and histologic findings. Newer techniques such as PCR tests from the specimens through colonoscopic biopsy may be helpful to confirm diagnosis of tuberculous enteritis. The treatment regimens for pulmonary tuberculosis are generally effective for tuberculous enteritis as well. If not treated early, the prognosis of intestinal tuberculosis is poor. We report a case of tuberculous enteritis diagnosed by colonoscopic biopsy and TB PCR which was presented with diarrhea, abdominal pain, intermittent fever and weight loss in a 12-year-old girl with active pulmonary tuberculosis. The patient was treated successfully with antituberculosis agents for 11 months without any complications.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting the Quality of Life of the Stroke Patients. METHOD: The subjects were 249 Stroke Patients who had visiting at the hospital and health care center. The research tools were FIM, CES-D, ATD PA, Quality of life Scale. Data were analyzed with SPSS WIN program in which frequency, percentage, Pearson's correlation and stepwise regression were used examination the factors affecting the quality of life. RESULT: There were positive correlation between patient's FIM and Quality of life, depression and physical disability, and negative correlation between FIM and depression and physical disability. Depression was the most important factor with influence on quality of life. CONCLUSION: Based on the results, Active nursing intervention to decreased depression and to improve patients physical functional status in needed.

PURPOSE: In this study the present status of the practicum in Fundamentals of Nursing and test for student competency in nursing skills were surveyed. METHOD: Participants included 72 nursing schools. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection and SPSS 17.0 for data analysis. RESULTS: Credits for Fundamentals of Nursing, credits for practicum and hours per credit were 2.93, 7.34, and 2.14 respectively. Number of students per practice unit, full time assistants and students per assistant were 28.6, 0.6, and 20.2 respectively. Utilization of CPX room and OSCE room for practice was 5.6%, and 9.7% respectively. Of the school, 32.0% included clinical practice in the practicum. 90.3% provided an open lab but only 48.4% had full-time assistants for these clinical practice areas. Testing for nursing skill competency was performed twice a semester in most schools. Utilization of standard patients and high fidelity models for testing was 8.3%, and 23.6% respectively. The test was thought to be inappropriate in 33.4% of the schools. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that to improve the outcomes, the practicum for Fundamentals of Nursing needs to be changed to include expansion of facilities and human resources, utilization of standard patients and high fidelity models and development of appropriate test methods.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to provide data for development of the Journal of Fundamentals of Nursing through reviewing classification of sectional editorship. METHODS: Descriptive statistical analysis was used, to identify content then, the classifications of sectional editorship were reviewed. RESULTS: The categories, "Basic concepts of nursing" (30.2%:17.9%), "Needs for comfort" (15.9%:13.1%), "Nursing education" (12.7%:12.7%), and "Needs for activity and exercise" (7.1%:7.1%) were most frequent through both the 1st and 2nd sectional editorship. CONCLUSION: Classification of sectional editorship was developed to clarify the educational purpose of fundamentals of nursing, and was modified through reflections by researchers. The current classification of sectional editorship is not a permanent formula, so using various viewpoints in further examination is needed.

An endobronchial leiomyoma is extremely rare benign tumor of the lung. Most endobronchial leiomyomas reported in the literature have been resected by either a lobectomy or a pneumonectomy. Herein is report a case whose tumor was successfully removed using a fiberoptic bronchoscope without surgical resection. A 64-year-old female presented with a fever, and a cough with purulent sputum of 10 days duration. The bronchoscopy revealed a 1cm sized, glistening, light yellow colored mass lesion totally obstructing the orifice of the superior segment of the right lower lobe. During the bronchoscopic biopsy procedures, the mass lesion was completely removed. A diagnosis of a leiomyoma was made from a histological examination of the obtained specimen. The early diagnosis and appropriate treatment including bronchoscopic removal may prevent respiratory complications.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Mucin-hypersecreting cholangiocarcinoma is very similar to intraductal papillary mucinous tumor (IPMT) of the pancreas. But this disease is rare and its clinicopathologic features are not well known. The purposes of this study are to report our experience of eight patients with the tumor and to analyze the characteristics of its clinical, radiological and pathological finding. METHODS: Eight patients (3 men and 5 women, mean age 52 years) were diagnosed as having a mucin-hypersecreting cholangiocarcinoma among 4,570 cases of ERCP from 1995 to 1998. RESULTS: Recent or previous attacks of biliary pain or acute cholangitis were elicited in most of the patients. CT showed diffuse intra- and extra-hepatic duct dilatation in all patients and suspicious ill-defined mass shadow in 2 out of 8 patients. On cholangioscopic examination, a papillary mass or minute mucosal lesion was found in the dilated bile duct containing thick viscid mucin. Eight patients were recommended an operation and curative resection was performed in seven patients. Histologically, well-differentiated adenocarcinoma in the background of benign hyperplasia and adenoma was documented in all patients. CONCLUSIONS: Mucin- hypersecreting cholangiocarcinoma may be characterized by exceedingly similarity to IMPT of the pancreas in clinical, radiological and pathological features. Further investigation is needed for detailed information such as natural history and outcome.
