To study the preventive effects of zinc supplementation on malnutrition during the first months of life (5-7 months of age) in healthy Vietnamese children. Infants were divided into 2 groups: one received for 6 months a syrup containing 10mg of zinc, other group received a placebo. The results showed that, zinc level in all groups were higher than in placebo group. Zinc administration increased the growth velocity of weight and height compared with placebo, particularly in female. Growth factor-I (IGF-I) levels decreased from 26ng/mL to 25ng/mL for both groups, but increased by 10% in the zinc treated females.

Anti-HIV drugs still remain as the dominant role in the treatment of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), because no vaccine was found till today. Owing to structural diversity, few side effects, and abundant resources, natural compounds from traditional Chinese medicines and medicinal plants have unique advantages and good potential in prevention and treatment of AIDS. Many researchers have made great efforts in the field of anti-HIV natural compounds, and have found some natural compounds from traditional Chinese medicines with potent anti-HIV activities. These compounds can be classified into the following categories: alkaloids, coumarins, lignans, flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins, polysaccharides, proteins and peptides, and polyphenols. However, most of these researches are performed in vitro, and most natural compounds show weak anti-HIV activities and indefinite acting targets. In the paper, we reviewed some natural compounds derived from traditional Chinese medicines with potent anti-HIV activities in recent years.

Objective We characterized the clinical features of sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease(sCJD)in or?der to diagnose it at the early stage. Methods Seventeen patients with sCJD were enrolled in the study. The clinical data, symptoms at the early stage, result of auxiliary examinations and survival time were analyzed. Results The ratio of male to female was 1:1.83 and the average age of onset was 60 ± 8.8 years old. Most of them presented with walking unstable (82.4%)and hypomnesia (64.7%) as the initial symptom. The occurrence rate was 82.4%, 76.5%and 58.8%for myoclo?nus, colored-ribbon-shaped high signals in cerebral cortex and high signals in basal ganglia of MRI. Periodic synchro?nous discharge (PSD) of electroencephalography(EEG) was seen in 82.4% cases, while cerebrospinal fluid analysis re?vealed positive results for 14-3-3 protein in 70%cases. Twelve patients had been dead in our study. The median surviv?al time was 12±7.7 months. Conclusions sCJD is more frequently occurred in mid-aged and older without specific symp?toms in early stage and positive rate of high signals in cerebral cortex of MRI and PSD of EEG is high.

Using of clearing zones on pachyman agar medium, there are 217 plant endophytic actinomycetes, producing ?-1,3-glucanase were screened. 45.6% of the strains produced ?-1,3-glucanase, in which the strains from cucumber are up to 38. The percentages of endophytic actinomycetes from different hosts produceing ?-1,3-glucanases were different. The percentage of the strains in Rhizoma Polygonatum produced ?-1,3-glucanases is the highest, up to 88.9%. The Inhibited effects of plant endophytic actinomycetes which produced extracellular ?-1,3-glucanases on mycelium growth of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum were detected in vitro. Cucumber endophytic actinomycete gCLA4 strain was screened out from 99 isolates, which can strongly inhibit the growth of S. sclerotiorum. The optimal ?-1,3-glucanases fermentation conditions of strain gCLA4 were investigated, they were pachyman 0.2%, peptone as nitrogen, pH 7～8 for 5 days. The ?-1,3-glucanases of strain gCLA4 had some inhibiting efficiency on 13 plant pathogens, in which inhibiting efficiency to Botryosphaeria dothidea was the strongest.

Keratorefractive surgery changes the central corneal thickness (CCT) and corneal curvature, which could influence the Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) and non-contact tonometer (NCT) measurements of intraocular pressure (IOP), but not dynamic contour tonometer(DCT). During the procedure of LASIK, there is a transient rise of IOP, which increases the risks of optic nerve damage. Meanwhile, the presence of functioning filtering blebs may affect the choice and outcome of refractive surgery, or even becomes a contraindication of surgery. Steroids are typically used after keratorefractive surgery, which could lead to IOP elevation. Hence it is important to monitor IOP after LASIK and to be aware of inaccurate IOP readings due to corneal flap interface fluid. Treating patients with postoperative elevated IOP after keratorefractive surgery is similar to that for patients with glaucoma. This review will address the issues surrounding the safety, relevant complications and implications of keratorefractive surgeries on glaucoma and relevant diagnostic tests.

Background Salivary transplantation or duct transposition can provide continuous physiological secretion of tear substitutes.This may be an ideal method in treatment of dry eye.But the relative anatomical literatures is few,and some of the conclusions in the literatures are still controversial,which limit its clinical application.Objective This study was to discuss the possibility and the advantage and disadvantage of applying three major salivary glands to treat xerophthalmia.Methods The relationship between the branches of the facial nerve out of the parotid gland and the salivary glands,the salivary glands size,origin of blood supply,out diameter of vessels and adjacent relation were observed in 34 sides pate specimens perfused with red latex under the operating microscope.To find the vessels in recipient site to anastomose,the vessels around fossa orbitalis and forehead were anatomized and observed.The parotid gland duct transfer operation,the submandibular gland free transplantation surgery and sublingual gland free transplantation surgery in the human anatomy specimens were simulated.Results The position of parotid duct was constant.The duct length was(4.20± 1.10) cm,duct diameter was (O.60±0.30) cm.The stensen's duct was likely to be prolonged by the cheek mucous membrane or venous andthe damage of buccal branch,zygomatic branch and temporal branches of facial nerve should be avoided during the operation of transplanting stensen' s duct.When submandibular gland was transplanted,facial vessel was taken as its pedicle,whose outside diameter was (2.70 ± 0.28) mm,and the length of the transplant vascular pedicle was (1.90 ± O.30) cm.Thc anastomosed vessel was superficial temporal vessel in recipient site.When sublingual gland was transplanted,sublingual(88.2％,30 sides) or submental vessel(11.8％,4 sides) was taken as its pedicle,whose outside diameter was(1.92±0.36) mm and (1.96±0.54) mm,and the length of the transplant vascular pedicle was(2.60± 1.10) cm and(3.50±0.40) cm,and the anastomosed vessel was the frontal branch of superficial temporal vessel in recipient site.Three sides of specimens lacked sublingual glands.Conclusions It is feasible that treating severe xerophthalmia by the operation of grafting the major salivary glands or transplanting stensen' s duct on the point of anatomical view.Parotid duct inversion and the submandibular gland transplantation have been applied to clinic.However,sublingual transplantation remains to be further confirmed by the animal experiments.

Objective To analyze the expression of purinergic receptor P2X ligand-gated ion channel 7 (P2X7R) on different cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) and to investigate its correlation with inflammatory cytokines in patients with SLE.Methods Flow cytometry was used to detect surface expression of P2X7R on lymphocytes,CD4+ cells,and CD19+ cell in 29 SLE patients and 28 healthy human controls to compare the difference between the SLE patients and the controls in P2X7R expression.Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to detect P2X7R-related serum cytokines interleukin (IL)-1β,IL-6,tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α level.T test,Wilcoxon rank sum test,Spearman's correlation analysis were used for statitical analysis.Results ① SLE patients had significantly higher expression of P2X7R on CD4+,CD8+ lymphocytes compared to controls [CD4+ cells∶ 2.21(3.55) vs 0.89(1.15),Z=-1.527,P=0.015； CD19+ cells∶ 11.53(20.01) vs 6.66 (6.27),Z=-2.091,P=0.037]； ② The levels of three cytokines in patients with SLE were significantly higher than those in control.The positive relationship between P2X7R expression in lymphocytes with the serum IL-6 level was found in SLE patients (r=0.449,P=0.015)；③ Patients with arthritis showed significantly higher expression of P2X7R on lym-phocytes compared to patients without arthritis (Z=-2.772,P=0.006).The expression of P2X7R on lymphocytes and CD19+ cell was significantly positively correlated with the SLEDAI score.Positive correlation with anti-β2GP Ⅰ in lymphocyteswas also found.Conclusion P2X7R may mediate the release of inflammatory cytokines involved in the pathogenesis of SLE,and may participate the development of arthritis,lupus nephritis and NPSLE in SLE patients.

Objective To master the serum nickel change rule of acute nickel carbonyl poisoning in rats,and to provide laboratory support for clinical treatment of acute nickel carbonyl poisoning patients.Methods SPF rats were given nickel carbonyl (250mg/m3,500mg/m3) in static inhalation for 30min.Rats were anesthetized by ether for 15 seconds after exposure for 30min,2h,4h,8h,12h,24h,48h,72h and 7d respectively.Anatomized rats,kept blood collection 2-3mL,and separated serum 0.5-1mL.Serum nickel was detected by AA800 (American PE company).Results The average serum nickel levels of 250mg/m3 dose group at 30min,2h,4h,8h,12h,24h,48h,72h,7d were (33.69 ±2.59),(24.61 ±3.03),(27.83 ±5.69),(21.36 ±4.14),(20.39 ±4.14),(18.80 ±7.02),(14.51 ±8.21),(13.58 ± 5.78) and (12.83 ± 4.41)μg/L.30 minutes reached the peak,and was 5.30-fold of those in normal controls.There had significant differences compared with normal control(t =5.959,5.958,5.990,5.998,5.997,5.994,5.990,4.317,4.347,all P ＜ 0.01).The average serum nickel levels of 500mg/m3 dose group at 30min,2h,4h,8h,12h,24h,48h,72h,7d were (72.22 ± 1.62),(57.78 ± 12.99),(42.25 ± 7.25),(103.77 ± 11.11),(79.04 ±12.26),(26.35 ±6.56),(18.58 ±4.92),(17.22 ±9.73),(14.59 ±5.27) μg/L.8h reached the peak,and was 16.33-fold of normal controls.The differences were significant (t =5.960,5.947,5.978,5.927,5.948,5.959,3.143,2.447,2.440,all P ＜ 0.05).Meanwhile,there were significant differences between two groups of 30min,2h,4h,8h,12h(t =5.208,2.447,2.449,5.959,5.959,P =0.001,0.049,0.042,0.000,0.000),but there was no significant difference after 24h.Conclusion There was significant doses-effect relationship between serum nickel content of acute nickel carbonyl poisoning rats and the dosage.Nickel carbonyl or its metabolites were excreted mainly within 24h.

Objective To evaluate the safety,effectiveness,and middle or long-term efficacy of endovascular stenting of internal carotid artery stenosis at the cavernous segment. Methods Thirty-two patients underwent endovascular stenting at the cavernous segment of internal carotid artery from January 2012 to February 2015 were enrolled retrospectively. Angioplasty and stenting were conducted using Apollo or Winspan stent system. The improvement of internal carotid artery cavernous segment stenosis and perioperative safety and the results of the medium and long-term follow-up of the 2 kinds of stents were observed. Results All the 32 patients achieved technical success. The symptoms of cerebral ischemia of the patients were relieved significantly. The length of the stenosis at cavernous segment of the internal carotid artery was 4 to 13 mm (mean,7. 2 ±2. 9 mm). The stenosis rate from 82 ± 7% before treatment decreased to the 24 ± 7% . One patient had perioperative complication (4. 7%),26 of them were followed up with DSA,and 6 were lost to follow-up. The follow-up period ranged from 7 to 29 months (mean,16 ± 7 months). During the follow-up period,1 patient had intracerebral hemorrhage,1 had cerebral infarction,and none of them died. Four patients had in-stent restenosis,three of them used Winspan stents, and 1 used Apollo stents. Conclusion The patients should be screened strictly,particularly paying attention to the length of lesions. Endovascular stent angioplasty for the treatment of internal carotid artery cavernous segment stenosis is a safe and effective method.

Objective To detect the levels of anti-gliadin IgA and anti-gliadin IgG antibodies in the plasma of the patients with schizophrenia, and to investigate the association between schizophrenia and anti-gliadin IgA, IgG bodies in a Chinese Han population, and to clarify the effect of gliadin on the occurrence of schizophrenia.Methods The plasma samples were collected from 428 patients with schizophrenia and 555 cases of normal control subjects in a Chinese Han population.The gliadin antibodies in plasma,including IgA and IgG,were tested using a native anti-gliadin ELISA test kit.The positive rates of plasma anti-gliadin IgA,and anti-gliadin IgG were tested by Chi-square test between the patients with schizophrenia and control subj ects. The differences of the levels of anti-gliadin IgA and anti-gliadin IgG were tested by Mann-Whitney U test between the patients with schizophrenia and control subjects.Results Compared with normal control group,the anti-gliadin IgA level and the positive rate of plasma anti-gliadin IgA in patient group were increased significantly(P<0.01),but there were no significant differences of the positive rate and the level of anti-gliadin IgG in plasma between patient and control groups (P>0.05).The anti-gliadin IgA levels in the patients with delusion of observation,delusion of being revealed,delusion of persecution, delusion of j ealousy, delusion of grandeur, incoherence of thinking, illogic thought, bizarre behavior,aggressive behavior,hallucination-delusion syndrome,poverty of thought,emotional blunting/apathy and aboulia were higher than that of the normal controls (P<0.05);the anti-gliadin IgG levels in the patients with delusion of being revealed and delusion of grandeur were higher than that of the normal controls (P<0.05 ). Conclusion Gliadin is associated with the onset of schizophrenia in Chinese Han population, and the plasma antibodies of gliadin maybe play an important rale in the onset of schizophrenia.
