Objective To explore the clinical value of video-assisted thoracoscopic mediastinal tumor resection. Methods The clinical data of 32 patients(observation group) who performed video-assisted thoracoscopic mediastinal tumor resection were retrospectively analyzed, compared them with 53 patients with mediastinal tumor who underwent traditional thoracotomy (control group). The clinical outcomes including operation time, intraoperative blood loss, chest drainage duration, postoperative hospital stay, postoperative complication and postoperative analgesia drug application were compared between two groups. Results No perioperative death was observed in two groups. There were no statistical difference in operation time between two groups [(121.9 ± 41.2) min vs.(141.7 ± 35.2) min] (P > 0.05).The observation group was significantly better in the intraoperative blood loss [(116.0 ±53.2) ml],chest drainage duration [(5.2 ± 1.2) d],postoperative hospital stay [(8.5 ± 1.3) d],postoperative analgesia drug application [(0.8 ± 0.7) times],postoperative comolication (3 cases),than those of the control group [(147.2 ± 45.2) ml,(6.8 ± 2.2) d,(11.2 ± 2.4) d,(2.1 ± 0.9) times,15 cases].There were statistical differences between two groups (P <0.05).Conclusion Complete video-assisted thoracoscopic mediastinal tumor resection is a valuable way in the treatment of mediastinal tumor, rapidly recovery and less postoperative complication.

This paper explains the research status of chemotherapy sensitivity test in three aspects of history of development, specific methods and clinical application. Chemotherapy sensitivity test is an important way to achieve individual treatment of cancer, after more than 60 years, there are two major categories(in vivo method and in vitro method) of more than 10 kinds of methods. The basic steps of sensitivity test inelude culture of primary tumor cells, chemotherapy drugs mixed, the reaction mixture, observing the results of detection and analysis of indicators. This paper focuses on basic principles, main steps and characteristics of six methods, such as the renal capsule of nude mice model of human cancer, the difference between staining cell, tetrazolium salt colorimetric, adenosine triphosphate based bioluminescence tumor chemosensitivity assay, collagen gel embedded culture method and targeting molecule sensitivity assay. Through the results of several clinical trials, it can be seen that chemotherapy under the guidance of drug sensitivity test significantly improved more than experience chemotherapy in efficient rate, median progression-free survival time, survival time, clinical complete remission rate, pathological complete remission rate, etc.

Chinese Journal of Diabetes 2008;16(1):26-28
Objective To observe the bone mineral density(BMD)in type 2 diabetic women and discuss the methods for evaluation of BMD.Methods BMD was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA)at skeletal regions of supine and lateral spine, left femur neck and left hip in 484 type 2 diabetic women and 868 healthy women. The relation of BMD of healthy women in skeletal regions with age changes was found to fit a cubic regression model. Results The peak BMD of lateral spine and hip appeared at 25-34 and 35-44 years old respectively.BMD in diabetic women was not different from age-matched healthy women. The BMD values of the different age stages in diabetic women showed no difference(P>0.05)as compared with healthy women, and decreased with the age increase. The numbers of damaged bone sites were increased with the age increase. The BMD difference values between peak value and values of different age stages showed no difference between diabetic and healthy women groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The changes of BMD in type 2 diabetic women show no difference from age-matched healthy women. And in both diabetic and healthy women,BMD decreases with age increasing.

Objective To investigate the pathway and mechanism of neuropeptide Y(NPY)-Y1 receptor agonist,[Leu~(31),Pro~(34)]-NPY,on the cultured cerebrovascular smooth muscle cells(SMCs) in the spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHR) in vitro. Methods The SMCs of the arteries from the brain of SHR were cultured in vitro.Cell cycle was detected with flow cytometry, and the concentration of free intracellular calcium was examined with laser scanning confocal microscopy. Results The percentages of S stage cells of 10~(-5) mol/L and 10~(-6) mol/L NPY was higher than those of the control group(P

Cancer metastasis is the most dangerous stage of tumorigenesis and evolution, the primary cause of death in cancer patients. Clinically, more than 60% of cancer patients have found metastasis at the time of examination. Modern medicine has made significant progress on the mechanisms of cancer metastasis in recent years, from the simple "anatomy and machinery" theory forward to the "seed and soil" theory, then to the "microenvironmental" theory and the "cancer stem cell" theory. The emerging "cancer stem cell" theory successfully explains phenomenon such as tumor genetic heterogeneity, anoikis resistance, tumor dormancy, providing more new targets and ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer metastasis.

Objective: To observe the effect of tripterygium polyglycosid(TP,雷公藤) on airway inflammation and remodeling in rats with asthma. Methods: Forty rats were randomly divided evenly into negative control group, positive control group, normal dose TP group(TPⅠ group) and small dose TP group(TPⅡgroup). The experimental model was induced by ovalbumin sensitization.Number of cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) was observed by immunocytochemical staining. The expressions of nuclear factor-?B(NF-?B),matrix metalloproteinases-9(MMP-9) and tissue of inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1(TIMP-1) were detected by immunohistochemistry method. Results: Compared with the negative control group, the counts of lymphocyte, neutrophilic leukocyte, macrophage and eosinocyte in BALF were elevated significantly, positive cell percentages of NF-?B, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in lung tissues increased greatly in positive control group, the differences being significant(all P

Objective To observe analgesic and croton oil-induced ear swelling effect of Chinese pine node. Methods Acetic acid writhing method and water tail-flick method was used to observe the analgesic effect, croton oil-induced ear swelling method was used to research anti-inflammatory effect. Results The inhibition rate of 1.0 g/kg,0.5 g/kg,0.25 g/kg of Chinese pine node on mice writhing response induced by acetic acid was 54.0%,44.3%,38.1%,and the inhibition rate on croton oil-induced mouse ear swelling was 48.4%,14.7%,7.4%.But no obvious influence on mice water tail-flick pain threshold. Conclusion Chinese pine node has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
