1.Naringin reduced polymethylmethacrylate-induced osteolysis in the mouse air sacs model.
China Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology 2015;28(4):345-349
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the influence of naringin on PMMA-induced osteoclastic bone resorption using the mouse air sacs model.
METHODSTotal 48 female Balb/c mices with the age of 8 to 10 weeks were chosen in the study. Air were injected into the back in 32 mices and formed the air sacs, 6 d later, the skulls (originated from other 16 mices) were implanted to the air sacs. Thirty-two animals were divided into naringin treatment group (with 2 concentrations of 150 mg/kg and 30 mg/ kg) , DMSO group and PBS blank group, 8 animals in each group. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) particles were injected into the air sacs in naringin treatment groups and DMSO group so as to irritate inflammatory reaction. Naringin with 2 concentrations of 150 mg/kg and 30 mg/kg were dissolved in DMSO of 0.2 ml, and were injected into air sacs, respectively. In PBS black group, no stimulation with PMMA particles, only injected PBS, and in DMSO group, injected DMSO without naringin. Tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), Ca2+ release, modified Masson stain and histological analysis were performed on the 7th day after stimulation.
RESULTSCompared with DMSO group, naringin treatment group's cellular infiltration decreased (P < 0.01); concentration of 150 mg/kg was better than that of concentrations of 30 mg/kg (8.90 ± 1.75 vs 15.23 ± 1.86). Naringin can decrease calcium release in the lavage of the air sacs bone resorption model, especially obvious in naringin with concentration of 150 mg/kg. Naringin can ameliorate the inflammatory reaction and the subsequent bone resorption (including bone collagen loss, TRAP positive cells amount and so on) in air sacs with bone implant and PMMA particles. Naringin with concentration of 150 mg/kg appeared to be an optimal dosage to deliver the therapeutic effects.
CONCLUSIONNaringin inhibits PMMA-induced osteoclastogenesis and ameliorates the PMMA-associated inflammatory reaction and the subsequent bone resorption.

BACKGROUND: The soft tissues would shrink with nasal framework collapse following surgical trauma, which cause aseptic inflammation, lead to parts of cartilage resorption. Accordingly, long-term saddle nose deformity usually accompanied by short nasal columella. Complications such as skin perforation or ulceration would appear if corrected the deformity using medical silicone rubber with large tension.OBJECTIVE: To explore the effectiveness of repairing post-traumatic saddle nose deformity with autologous costal cartilage transplantation.METHODS: A total of 21 cases with post-traumatic saddle nose deformity accompanied by short nasal columella were selected, including 6 males and 15 females, aged 16 45 years. All of the cases had trauma history and agreed with the treatment. The costal cartilage was obtained from the seventh rib and formed to babylon weeping willow leaf shape and columella nasi stent to repair post-traumatic saddle nose deformity. The "V-Y" progradation suture was used in the philtrum introcession and the botton of nasal columella to extend the nasal columella. The recovery of saddle nose deformity after transplantation, discharge of transplanted cartilage, as well as the incision scar status was observed.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The results were satisfactory and there were no complications after transplantation. All the cases were followed up from 6 months to 2 years. No case suffered costal cartilage grafts discharge or chondral deformation. The scar was little at the bottom of nasal columella. It is an ideal method for repairing post-traumatic saddle nose deformity using transplantation of autologous costal cartilage with "V-Y" progradation suture.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2014;(35):5736-5740
BACKGROUND:At present, few studies concerned pulmonary infection after treatment of senile fracture. For special parts of senile patients, there are no studies on complications of pulmonary infection in perioperative period after hip fracture. OBJECTIVE:To study risk factors for pulmonary infection in patients with senile hip fractures in perioperative period. METHODS:The data of 46 senile hip fracture patients with perioperative pulmonary infection were retrospectively analyzed. A matched case-control study was conducted in 46 senile hip fracture patients without pulmonary infection in the same hospital and the same period. The difference in perioperative various clinical indexes was compared between the two groups. Risk factors of pulmonary infection received Logistic regression analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Multivariate analysis screened out 14 possible perioperative pulmonary infection factors:chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, smoking, diabetes mel itus, heart disease, mechanical ventilation, intraoperative bleeding amount, erythrocyte infusion, operation time, preoperative low body mass index (body mass index<18.5 kg/m2 ), serum albumin<35 g/L, electrolyte disturbance, time of entering intensive care unit and length of stay. Logistic regression analysis displayed that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OR=23.317;95%CI:2.702-60.312;P=0.000), entering intensive care unit (OR=7.890;95%CI:2.624-76.012;P=0.008), mechanical ventilation (OR=35.210;95%CI:8.464-131.203;P=0.017) and operation time (OR=12.122;95%CI:5.154-99.098;P=0.012) were independent risk factors for perioperative pulmonary infection in patients with senile hip fracture. These data indicated that one should be alert to the possible occurrence of pulmonary infection in senile hip fracture patients with the presence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, entering intensive care unit and mechanical ventilation.
