1.Preparation of salmonella antigens for serodiagnostic: Salmonella Vi, Salmonella enteritidis H (ENH), Salmonella typhimurium H (TMH) at the Pasteur Institute in HoChiMinh city.
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(1):57-60
Eight kinds of Salmonella antigens have been made at the Pasteur Institute HoChiMinh City: OA, OB, OC, Otyphi and HA, HB, HC, Htyphi. Three more kinds of Salmonella antigens were developed: Salmonella Vi, ENH (S. enteritidis) and TMH (S. typhimurium) for differentiation of antibodies from typhoid (0:9,12 H:d) and S. enteritidis infection (0:9,12 H:g, m) and antibodies from paratyphoid B (0:4,5,12 H:b:-) with S. typhimurium (0:4,5,12 H:i:1,2). Salmonella Vi antigen is useful for the study of Vi antibody in epidemiological investigation on typhoid fever

2.Preparation of polyvalent OMA and OMB antisera for Salmonella diagnosis.
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(1):55-57
Polyvalent OMA antiserum (A, B, D1, D2, E1, E4 and L) and polyvalent OMB antiserum (C1, C2-C3, F, G and H) were developed at the Pasteur Institute in HoChiMinh city. These reagents are used in the rapid presumptive diagnosis of Salmonella.

3.Preparation of specific diagnostic antiserum for Salmonella H:A, H:B, H:D, H:G,M and H:I at the Pasteur Institute in HoChiMinh City.
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(1):61-65
HoChiMinh Pasteur Institute has produced the specific diagnostic antiserum for O-salmonella group A, B, C, D, E and Vi anticortex antiserum for many years. Owing to some favorable conditions, the Institute had produced some monophase H antiserum with H:a, H:b, H:c, H:d, H:g,m and H:i used in identifying the specific serotype of some serious salmonella spp.: S. paratyphi A, S.paratyphi B, S. paratyphi C and S. typhi caused typhoid and paratyphoid. S.entertidis and S.typhimurium caused food poisoning.

4.Survival of enterobacteriaceae strains in EGG medium IPH.
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(1):38-41
240 enterobacteriaceae strains were maintained in EGG medium IPH for 14 years (1985-2000) or 10 years (1990-2000). Results: E.coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp. and Proteus spp., survived: 88.6%; 94.44%; 90%; 100%; and 100% respectively, but only 18% of Vibrio cholerae serotype Inaba strains survived. However, 86,67% of Vibrio cholerae serotype Inaba strains survived for 10 years (1990-2000).

Background: Vertebral fractures are the most common complication of osteoporosis, but more than two-thirds are asymptomatic. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the following objectives: (1) To describe some characteristics of incident asymptomatic vertebral fractures in adults aged 50 years and older in Vietnam; (2) To evaluate some factors related to incident asymptomatic vertebral fractures in adults aged 50 years and older in Vietnam. Materials and Methods: 455 adults aged 50 years and older volunteered to participate in the study. Cohort study of the Vietnam Osteoporosis Study (VOS) project. Results and Conclusions: In 29/455 cases of incident asymptomatic vertebral fractures followed after 2 years, the most common characteristics included: wedge fracture type (73.3%), grade 2 fracture (56.7%), and the most common locations are T12 and L1 (over 50%). Factors associated with incident vertebral fractures are advanced age and smoking.
