An investigation was conducted at Loc Ha dignity restoration center, 400 newly admitted prostitutes into the center undewent serum examination at the Preventive Medicine Centre, ELISA assay at Military Hospital 108, RPR technique at the Hanoi Venero-Dermatology Centre from June to Demcember 2000. Results showed an incidence of HIV of 13%, HCV of 26.3%, syphylis 7.4%. The risk of HIV infection on the subjects with HCV(+), syphylis(+), the drug intravenous users, the subjects of HCV(+)/HIV(+) was higher by 75% than those of HCV(+)/HIV(+) 19.5%.

2.Evaluation of efficacy of Vratisolin 2% in the treatment of epidemic conjunctivitis

38 patients (18 males, 20 females), age from 17 to 61 years, were assigned in two groups. Group 1 including 29 patients (53 eyes), vratisolin 2% ophthalmic ointment was applied 4-5 times daily into the conjunctive sac. Group 2 including 9 patients (15 eyes), Ofus ophthalmic eyes drops was used 10 times daily. Results: in patients with epidemic conjunctivitis, treated by Vratisolin, more rapid reduction of symptoms was observed in comparing with this the group treated with Ofus eye drops.

3.Evaluation of prevention effectiveness of intracranial hemorrhage with vitamin K injection for newborns

Background: Intracranial hemorrhage (lCH) is a common disease with high rate of mortality and neurological sequel. Objectives:to estimate preventive effectiveness of intracranial hemorrhage by vitamin K1 and K3 for newborns just after birth". Subjects and methods: An epidemiological, randomized control study with intervention was conducted. The study included all children under 3 months with and without ICH during period 1/1/2000 -30/6/2004 living in Hatay province. Among them all the newborns during period 1/6/2002 - 30/6/2004 were injected either 1 mg vitamin K1 or K3. Results: Children injected with vitamin K in the intervention period were followed up in three months and evaluated by a united process. Effects of intervention were calculated by preventive value. 62.057/82069 newborns were injected vitamin K1 or Vitamin K3 (25.725 newborns were injected Vitamin K1; 36.332 newborns were injected vitamin K3). Single dose 1M reduced the rate of ICH in infants: The morbidity changed from 3.3\ufffd?to 0.82\ufffd? the prevention value was 96%. There were no complications and side effects of vitamin K injections reported. Conclusions: Injection of vitamin K1 and K3 have similar preventive effectiveness. 4.The differences of transcript level of Heparan-sulfate Interacting Protein (HIP) in benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and prostate cancer tissues

Background: Heparan-sufate interacting protetin (HIP) has been known to be up-regulated and expressed in various human cancer cell lines at both transcript and protein levels. HIP\u2019s expression was related to the differentiation status and cancer development. Objective: Using a semi-quantitative PCR method to determine HIP transcript levels in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) and prostate cancer tissues. Subjects and methods: 30 samples of BPH, 12 samples of high-grade PIN, and 40 samples of prostate cancer were collected from patients at Viet Duc Hospital and Friendship Hospital. Total RNA was extracted from BPH, PIN and prostate cancer tissues; cDNA synthesis by reverse transcript - polymerase chain reaction (RT - PCR); HIP transcript determination using semi-quantitative PCR. Results: There was significant difference in HIP transcript levels. HIP transcript was very highly up-regulated in the prostate cancer tissues. The up-regulation of HIP transcript was lower in PIN, and lowest in BPH. HIP transcript levels in benign samples were 1/2 and 2/3 compared with cancer and PIN samples, respectively (P< 0.05). These indicated that up-regulation of HIP transcript may be an early event in tumorigenesis. Conclusions: Levels of HIP transcript were different between tissues of prostate cancer, PIN, and BPH. HIP may be a marker for pre-cancer of the prostate.

Background: Femoral shaft fracture, in company with the development of morden society and the increase in means of transport, is increasing in the number of case and the complicated degree of injury. Objectives: 1. To note indication for interlocking intramedullary SIGN nailing in femoral shaft fracture in adult patients. 2. To assess result of interlocking intramedullary SIGN nailing in treatment of femoral shaft fracture in adult patients. Subjects and method: A prospective, descriptive study was conducted in the 40 patients between the ages of 17 and 80 who were dignosed femoral shaft fracture caused by injury and operated for bone union by interlocking intramedullary SIGN nailing at Viet Duc hospital, from April/2004 to July/2005. Results: In this study: 5 patients with I degree fracture (12.5%), 20 with II degree (25%) and most of patients with III and IV degree fracture (62.5%), of which 14 patients with IV degree (35%). Because the SIGN nailing\u2019s structure was solid, so it had a good capacity for patient\u2019s weight. 4 weeks after operation, 85% patients were able to move around without crutches. There was no complications. Conclusion: SIGN nailing enables surgeons to drive interlocking intramedullary nailing for long bone without image intensifier. It also enables both surgeons and patients to appoarch modern, high effective methods without needing expensive machines.

6.Detection of mutant dystrophin gene carrier using quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction

Background: Deletion and duplication mutations of dystrophin gene make up from 70 to 75% of patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Two thirds of children with DMD inherited from the heterozygous mothers the mutated gene which is located on one of the sex chromosomes. Objective: To detect the asymptomatic carriers of dystrophin gene mutation using molecular techniques. Subject and methods: 3 DMD patients and their 9 relatives. Using techniques: DNA extraction and quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Results: Successfully detected 4 heterozygous individuals from 9 female members of three different families that have already confirmed DMD patients. Conclusion: This method could lead to a new way of prenatal diagnosis of DMD as well as other genetic disorders that are caused by deletion or duplication mutation.

Background: Heparansulfate Interacting Protein (HIP) is up-regulated in various human cancer cell lines at both transcript and protein levels. HIP expression is related to the differentiation status and cancer development. Objectives: To determine HIP in benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and prostate cancer tissues. Materials and method: Western blot method was used to determine HIP expression in 3 different types of prostate tissue, including 11 prostate cancer samples, 2 benign prostatic hyperplasia samples and 11 prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia samples. Results. HIP was particularly up-regulated in prostate cancer and prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia, indicating that up-regulation of HIP expression may be an early event in tumorgenesis. Conclusion: The expression of HIP was different between cancer, prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia tissue and benign prostatic hyperplasia. HIP may serve as a prognostic marker for prostate carcinoma.

8.The anti-hyperglycemic effect of fructus lycii extraction on straptozocine-induced glucose intolerance mice and diabetic mice

Background: Continuation of previous study of screening traditional medicinal plants with anti-diabetic effect, the hypoglycemic effect of glue extracted from Fructus Lycii which was named HPD was study. Objective: to investigate the hypoglycemic effect of HPD on diabetic mice caused by different doses of streptozocine. Subjects and methods: causing diabetes by streptozocine at difference doses was used to collect glucose intolerance mice, mild diabetic mice and severe diabetic mice. The effect of HPD p.o. at several doses was evaluated after 3 days of use. Results: By oral allocation with the dose of 500 and 1.000mg/kg body-weight for 3 days, HPD inhibited increasing blood glucose in streptozocine-induced glucose intolerance mice (intraperitoneal STZ 100 mg/kg). HPD 1000 mg/kg body weight had the potent hypoglycemic effect on streptozocine-induced diabetic mice, reverse the blood glucose self control ability of mild streptozicine-induced diabetic mice (STZ 120 mg/kg), meanwhile can not stop a hyperglycemic effect of high dose of STZ (STZ 180 mg/kg). Background: Heparansulfate Interacting Protein (HIP) is a protein that belongs to a novel class of heparin and heparansulfate binding protein. It plays an important role in extracellular matrix structure and function, cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix adhesion, growth and differentiation. HIP was shown to be expressed in normal epithelia and epithelial cell lines at both mRNA and protein levels. 10.Cloning of the gene encoding human recombinant blood \u2013 coagulation factor WIII

Background: Hemophilia A is a genetic bleeding disorder that results from a deficiency in factor VIII. The prevalence of Hemophilia in Vietnam is rather high (2/34830 people) and Vietnam has high usage demand for factor VIII in the treatment and prevention of the disease. Therefore, it is necessary to study and produce recombinant blood \u2013 coagulation factor WIII. Objective: To clone successfully A1A2 and A3C2 gen fragment encoding factor VIII. Subject and Method: Amplify A1A2 and A3C2 gene fragments by PCR from human cDNA. PCR products were ligated into cloning vector pQE \u2013 30UA. Recombinant plasmids were transformed into E.coli DH5 alpha host strain. Inserted A1A2 and A3C2 gene fragments were checked by PCR and restriction enzymes. Result: Successfully amplifying functional gene fragments encoding factor VIII using specific primers. Conclusion: Obtaining pQE \u2013 30UA vector carrying A1A2 and A3C2 fragments encoding factor VIII. This is the premise result for the next studies on synthesis of recombinant factor WIII and application of genetic therapy.
