Varicocele is a dilatation of plexus venosus in the spermatic cord. It rarely occurs before the age of puberty, but 15% of male teenager experienced varicocele (the rate is relatively high). Center for the trauma and orthopady treated 200 cases of foot deformity in which 1,500 cases received operations. Most of them were congenital club foot (70%) followed by club food due to the polio fever(20%) due to the brain paralysis (5%) and due to arthrogrip ossis (5%). The orthopadic equipments were applied for 35 cases. The equipment was used within 5 weeks and continuously fixed by gypsum up to 3 months from the day of operation.

Fifty three of normogravid - normotensive women who subsequently developed pregnancy - included hypertension demonstrated an increase in diastolic blood pressure at least 20 mmHg when turned from the lateral recumbent to the supine position, between twenty eight and thirty six weeks of gestation. Conversely 95.8% percent of women who did not demonstrate such a rise in diastolic blood pressure when turned to supine position did not become hypertensive during that pregnancy. The results demonstrated the high validity of this method as follow: the sensivity of predictive value: 65%. The specificity of predictive value: 93%, the positive predictive value: 53%, the negative predictive value: 96%.

80 patients (39 males, 41 females) with mastoiditis were treated at Binh Phuoc province from March 2004 to January/2005. The patient’s age of 16 to 58 accounted for highest rate (96.25%). The symptoms such as headache, bad hearing, tinnitus occurred in 100% of patients. There was 81.25% of patients had a history of run ear fluid; 92.5% had myringorupture. Drain the mastoid antrum from upper middle ear was the most common method (98.75%), tympanoplasty was used in 92.5% of patients. Drugs and combination therapy: lincomycine, gentamycine, prednisone, diclofenac and vitamine of B group. Surgery method plays important role in the treatment of mastoiditis.

337 patients with the first ever strokes were treated at the hospital of Hai Duong province from January 1999 to December 2000. All poststroke patients were evaluated their functional outcome at admission and discharge; 3 months and one year after stroke onset by using the Bathel score. After one year poststroke, 209 patients (62%) were still alive and followed up continuously; 128 patients died (38%). The average Bathel score were 83; 48.3% of patients had independent activities of daily living (ADL). After one year poststroke, the rate of movement function defects in arms was 66.5%; leg function impaired 54.5%; speech disorders 23.2%; bowel incontinent 8.6%. This study confirmed there were the high rate of mortality and decreased ADL in community-living stroke survivors one year after stroke. A high proportion of movement function defects prevents the patients from reintegrating to normal living.

Fasciolopsis buski is common parasite in pigs. Some patients who infected by adult worms of Fasciolopsis buski in several areas, including the provinces of Ninh Binh and Nghe An were sampled. Genome of 18S ribosomal RNA with 1950 nucleotides from giant intestinal fluke (Fasciolopsis buski) was obtained using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing approach for comparative analysis each others and with the data deposited in GenBank (L06668). The adult worms from Ninh Binh and Nghe An were morphologically identified as Fasciolopsis buski. The genetic analysis revealed that the 18S rRNA gene of the giant intestinal flukes isolated in Ninh Binh and Nghe An were similar (homogenous 100% of nucleotides) and showed nearly absolute identity with only 2 divergent nucleotides of 0.01% (2/1950 nucleotides) to the 18S rRNA of the pig Fasciolopsis buski as the data deposited in GenBank (L066608). However, 18S ribosomal RNA of the adult worms of human Fasciolopsis buski collected from the provinces of Ninh Binh and Nghe An were similar to one another

Among the enzymes found in snake venom, ribonuclease (RNase) has been known to have the potential effect against cancer and HIV. In a previous report, the author and his colleague have demonstrated that RNase from Vietnamese black cobra (Naja naja) venom differed from all the other identified RNase for its extremely low optimal value of pH. The results in this study showed that it also differed in nonlinear activity dependence on the enzyme concentrations and a sigmoidal curve of saturation with the substrate. This enzyme expressed the maximal activity at the ionic strength of 10 mM of the reaction buffers. Ammonium sulfate entirely suppressed the enzyme activity at the concentration over 70 mM, and sodium chloride reduced the activity by 70% at the level over 100 mM. No magnesium ion was needed for the activation of this RNase.
