4189 persons in Phu Vang – Hue were enrolled in an inquiry on health and morbidity. Results showed that ear diseases account for 6.1%, among them media otitis trended to increase with children age; deaf and dumb 0.2%, dull 0.1%. In the right ear and left ear the incidence of media otitis was similar. Hearing capacity was less sensitive if it has media otitis of both sides. In children, extern otitis was preponderant, while in adult the main problems were buzzed ear, hearing loss, drum membrane perforation, mainly in the centre, then in ¼ infero anterior and ¼ posterioinferior, chronic media otitis 97.75%, acute 2.25%. About ¾ cases of media otitis lost hearing capacity, 28.5% had not been treated, 31.1% treated in commune health station, 25% in private physician office, 25.2% self treated at home, 18.7% in district and provincial hospital. A comparison study was carried out on 1,242 medical records of pharyngolaryngeal disease among pediatric inpatients with ages of 1 -15 in Hue Central Hospital and 2852 medical records of pharyngolaryngeal diseases among pediatric inpatients with the same ages in Aue hospital, West Germany. Results showed that the pharyngolaryngeal diseases were leading diseases among diseases of ear, nose and pharynx in both hospitals. The rate of these diseases treated by operation in Aue hospital was higher than this in Hue hospital. There was difference of the morbidity rate between age groups. The rate of treatment of infection disease and infections complication in Hue hospital was higher than this in Aue hospital. The Aue hospital considered in prophylactic operation, diagnosis and rehabitation better than Hue hospital. There was no death in Aue hospital while there were 6 deaths in Hue hospital.

The study was conducted on 4,800 female labourers from three regions. It was selected randomly one district from every province, 2 communes from every district and 300 labourers from every commune. The result showed that agricultural female labourers have rate of 53.5 - 55.5%, most of them are 26 - 45 years of old (73.5%). Most of them have primary and secondary education (84.7%). 11.3% of participants have high-school education and 4% have just escaped illiteracy. 88% have married and 45.9% have more than 2 live children. Working duration is long (8-17 hours per day) and most of them have not received health care periodically. Labor accident rate remains to be high in agricultural female labourers with 130 cases per 10,000 people

The coupling procedure of antimalarial agent (SR2) onto polymeric carrier (SR1) by covalent bond (amide linkage) was studied. Some factors of drug coupling reaction was investigated.

Experimental results showed that the LD50 of extract of dry leaves of Barleria lupulina Lindl. Acanthaceae is 29.871.63 g/kg. The extract in the ratio of 5 to 1 had antibacterial activities on the strains of bacteria such as: S. aureus, P. aerugrinosa, E. coli and B. subtilis. In the ratio of 2 to 1 it had a great anti-inflammatory effect in the dose of 6g/kg of body weigh. This influence is reduced at 35% after 24 hours. It also provided the relief of pain in the dose of 15g/kg of body weight during the first-15 minutes. The effect gradually decreased after 20 minutes

Introduction: During a thyroidectomy, the neck is hyperextended. This position may inverse the tracheal axis to the endotracheal tube (ET), can cause damage to the vocal cords and tracheal wall. We propose a simple turn of the ET corresponding with the laryngo-tracheal axis to reduce of post-operative sore throat (PST) and hoarseness (H) in thyroidectomy patients. Methods: 122 patients undergoing general anesthesia were prospectively randomized divided into 4 groups. Gp1 (n=31): normal ET tube placement. Gp2 (n=30): normal ET tube rotated 180o following insertion. Gp3 (n=30): armoured tube. Gp4 (control, n=31): Normal ET tube in operations other than thyroidectomy, that require hyperextension. Cuff pressure (CP) and inspiratory peak pressure (IPP) were monitored during anesthesia. PST and H were evaluated by a VAS (0-10mm). Results: The 4 groups were similar in age, gender and intubation duration. IPP remained stable in all 4 groups. However, CP increased significantly in Gp1 and Gp4 after hyperextension. GP1 had the most PST and H (p<0.05). Tube rotation achieved the same results as the Armoured tube. Discussion: Rotating ET tube 180o reduced PST and H as much as intubation with a armoured tube. This rotation did not interfere with ventilation during anesthesia.

The investigation was performed on employees and workers who contact with chemicals at 9 institutions using various substances in the process of production of paint, rubber, shoe and wood articles in Ha Noi, Hai Phong and Da Nang. Results showed that the current regulations were not complied preserve and use of chemical substance, without emergency equipments available for working staff and environment. A high rate of workers had not been educate on chemical safety and a high rate of work place and facilities had not guideline for using chemical substances.

Studying some biochemical and haematology indexes of senior citizens in Thai Nguyen city, the results as follows: Haematology and fatty indexes of 2 senior citizens group is similar. Over 92% of study group have cholesterol higher than that of control group (p<0.020.) Triglycerid, HDL-C, LD-C of the study group are more than that of the control group, but there is not statistic significance.

4 groups of subjects including 1.590 workers with occupational diseases and exposed to the risks. 175 managers, 153 health workers, 32 officals of the Labor – Invalide – Social services, social insurance in 37 factories in 7 provinces/cities: Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Nghe An, Hue and HoChiMinh city, were enrolled into study performed from September 2001 to June 2002. The study had showed a rate of 93.8% exposed subjects underwent regular health examination of low quality. The result table delayed < 2 weeks with the cost of 35.000 VND for each subjects. In > 71.5% of fatories, occupational health examinations were conducted. The prevalence of pneumoconiosis was 94% and the cost of consultation 83.000 VND for each. There was a rather good realization of the regime of health care allowance and subsidy.
