The screening survey by stool examination prior the third round showed the satisfactory results of the previous rounds of treatment in comparison to the base line survey prior the intervention, the overall prevalence of intestinal worm infection was reduced by 56.3%, of which Ascaris infection by 73.5%, Trichuris by 52.4%, hookworm by 55.1 %. The intensity of infection was also reduced significantly as Ascaris by 61.1 %, Trichuris by 52.2%, hookworm by 81.6%. Nearly all the children (99.6%) in the project schools were treated three times (totally 331,194 times of treatment) with the interval of 6 months. The knowledge, attitude and practice of the children and their parents were found to have been much improved as compared to that before the intervention

Chronic renal failure is a common syndrome with progressive nature. The treatment for this condition is considered difficult. Apart from clinical manifestations of chronic hyperuremia, this condition also associates with other disorders including glucid metabolic disorders. Out of 40 patients who were involved in this study, 57.5% were found to have an increase in blood sugar level and 12.5% have suffered from diabetes. There was no difference in the rate of dysglycemia between males and females. The result of study showed that glucose tolerance disorders associated with the severity of disease, especially during the third and fourth stages that accounted for 45%.

Wedelia chinensis (Osbeck) Merr. (Synomyme: W. calendulacea Less.) was commonly used in folk medicine for the treatment of furunculosis, phlegmon, impetigo, cystitis. Two other plants, namely Tridex procumbens L. and Phyla nodiflora (L.) greene were often confused with W. chinensis. Wedelia calen-dulacea Less. (Asteraceae) is well known for its antibacterial, demulcent and antifebrile properties, it is a traditional medicine which wild growing in many areas in Viet Nam. The researchers firstly study its chemical composition. Results of the chemical analysis show that: The plant contains flavonoid, alcaloids, coumarin, triterpenoid saponins, tanin, sugars, fat, sterols and carotenoid. The content of total flavonoids is about 1% (on dry basis), at least 11 spots on chromatogram. The content of total saponins is about 12% (on dry basis). The analysis with 3 different solvent systems revealed at least 15 spots on chromatogram. Some of the spots can be shown with both flavonoid and coumarin reagents, these are tentatively called coumestan components.

The 1:1 fluid extract of Wedelia calendulacea Less. aerial part was used for the evaluation of the plant hepatoprotective effect. The results of the pharmacological studies included: (1) Oxidative activity: 83.1% (in vitro), (2) Decrease of malonyl dialdehyde in mouse liver: 25.1%, (3) Decrease of the serum glutamate pyruvic transaminase level: 34.1%, (4) Decrease of the concentration of bilirubin in mouse serum: 10.4%, (5) Increase of the bile flow in mice: 88.8%. Conclusion: W. calendulacea had a good hepatoprotective effect in mouse model.

The Wedelia calendulacea Less. in Van Dien area, Ha Noi, rats of the body weight of 20-22g were divided into 3 groups. In order to use Wedelia calendulacea Less. in treating liver diseases, fractions from the plant have been studied pharmacologically. This paper presents the method of extraction of oleanolic acid and results of its anti-oxidative effect. The studies have revealed that amount of liver MDA of the treated mice decreased by 44.8%, and that of serum GPT decreased by 26.3%. These results show that oleanolic acid do take part in the hepatoprotective activity of the plant

With the aim of investigation about the real situation of environment of farmers's houses in On Luong - Phu Luong - Thai Nguyen province, a cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out. The results showed that: The environment in house and breeding facilities area is seriously contaminated by several factors such as human and animal waste, short distance from bleeding facilities to the house ect... The authors recommended that ; environment of farmers’ house, raising domestic cattle’s and poultries should be improved, primary health care should be applied more often for all farmers of this area.

A study stool samples were collected from 495 school children of two groups and examined by Kato - Katz techniques and anthropometric indicators (height, weight, mid upper circumference, body mass index) were measured in two years 2000-2001 in a primary school of Sam Son. The prevalence of intestinal helminths as Ascaris lumbriciodes, Trichuris trichiura and hookworm was found to be 83.5%, 92.2%, 5.6%, respectively while it was 87.5%, 98.9%, 51.3%, respectively in the control group.The anthropometric indicators were found to be lower that nomal in both groups. Prevalence of Ascaris lumbriciodes, Trichuris trichiura and hookworm was markedly reduced in the the study group after two rounds of treatment with mebendazole 500mg single dose with 6 month interval. The malnutrition status was significantly decreased one year after intervention

In the study of 43 cases of urinary stones in aldults in Thuy Van commune, Huong Thuy district, Thua Thien Hue province showed that: Hydronephrosis was 27.3%, level III examined by renal ultrasound was the highest rate of 23.3%, three cases of urinary stones had the complication of Hydronephrosis III grade. Urinary tract infection with nitrite and white blood cell (+) in urine was 18.6%. Chronic renal failure was 16.3% with the most was level I (9.3%). Hematuria was 18.6% and red blood cell in urine was the highest (25.6%).

In an investigation on 215 patients (55 females, 160 males) aged 80-82, suffering from gastric, duodenal ulcer with Helicobacter pylori (+), 155 samples were isolated with a rate of successful culture of 72.1% and 116 strains of bacteria underwent an antibiogramme procedure for determining the sensitivity of the bacterium. Results showed the antibiotic resistance of metronidazole (M), clarithromycine (CLA), amoxycillin rating 54.3%, 21.6%, 18.1% respectively, with no difference concerning the age and the gender. During 3 years (2000-2002) there was a trend of enhance of resistance to 3 mentioned antibiotics, and metrodiazole got the highest resistance rate. These antibiotics are currently the most common tools to eliminate H. pylori, therefore this is a considerable concern in the treatment of gastro-duodenal ulcer of the next future
