Neurofibroma, Plexiform* ; Urinary Bladder*

Giant plexiform neurofibroma (PNs) are benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors known to contain multiple fascicles of nerve and numerous friable vascular components. Most consult due to significant disfigurement and functional deficit. Though surgery is the current standard of therapy, there is high reservation in pushing through with resection in most cases. The reservation stems from the recognized difficulty in controlling intraoperative life-threatening hemorrhage. A 25-year-old female came in our institution due to multiple debilitating giant PNs on her scalp, back, neck, shoulder, and chest. She opted for debulking surgery despite possible complications and recurrence. Multiple modalities used to prevent massive bleeding in this case included preoperative arterial embolization, energy sealing device, cutting linear stapler, and interlocking retention sutures. The aim of this case report was to discuss the utility of each of these techniques, the advantages and disadvantages of each approach based on our experience.
Neurofibroma, Plexiform ; Hemorrhage

We report a case of plexiform neurofibroma developed under the overlying speckled lentiginous nevus, which occurred in a 20 year-old man. In this patient and his family no other signs of von Recklinghausens disease were found. Discussion is focussed on the fact that both plexiform neurofibroma and speckled lentigmous nevus, which represent a defect in the neural crest, occurred in the same area of the skin.

Gastrointestinal ganglioneuromatosis is a rare neoplastic condition that can occur in association with von Recklinghausen's disease with multiple endocrine neoplasia type II B. The main locations are the ileum, colon, and appendix. We report a case of diffuse ganglioneuromatosis of the appendix associated with a mesenteric and ileocecal plexiform neurofibroma in von Recklinghausen's disease.

We experience a case of plexiform neurofibroma in a 10-year-old girl who had unusual giant pigmentation and multiple skcletal abnormalities including pectus cariimtum. Histologic examination of the lesion taken from right upper arm permitted a diagnosis of plexiform neurofibroma.

Plexiform neurofibroma is considered to be pathognomic of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Herein we report a solitary plexiform neurofibroma which is not associated with NF1. A 61-year-old man presented with asymptomatic skin colored nodules on the medial side of his left great toe. No other abnormalities were found in his personal or family history. Clinically, the tumor was simulating the appearance of mucous cysts. Microscopically,it was a plexiform neurofibroma located in the dermis which seemed to originate from small superficial nerves. This case would seem to confirm that the superficial form of plexiform neurofibroma involving small nerves in the dermis or subcutis is not necessarily pathognomic for NF1.

Fat containing masses, except mediastinal lipomatosis, of the thorax are uncommon. In spite of uncommonoccurences, as CT can detect not only the fat content but also the presence and character of the non-fattycomponent of the mass, accurate preoperative diagnosis can usually be made in most cases of fat containingmediastinal masses. Authors report 6 cases of fat containing mediastinal masses, that were diagnosedpreoperatively by CT scan, comprising 2 cases of limpoma(combined with plexiform neurofibroma in a case), 1liposarcoma, 1 thymolipoma, and 2 cases of omental hernia through Morgagni foramen.

An unusual case of melanotic neurofibroma which involves subcutaneous tissue and dura in the occipital area is presented. The physical examination showed cutaneous pigmentation(cafe au lait spots) and multiple cutaneous tumors(fibroma molluscum). Magnetic resonance imaging showed plexiform neurofibroma and dural ectasia of typical finding of neurofibromatosis. The patient underwent surgical removal of the tumor as well as cranioplasty of the skull defect. The authors reviewed the literatures and discussed the pathogenesis of this extremely rare case.
