A case of spinal intraosseous schwannoma (SIS) in the lumbar vertebra is reported. Clinical and radiologic characteristics of 16 reported cases of SIS were reviewed. SIS can be a rare differential diagnosis for intraosseous tumors.

Primary intrasellar schwannomas or neurilemmomas occur rarely and mimic pituitary adenoma, radiologically and clinically. The authors describe the 6th case of primary intrasellar schwannoma mimicking a nonfunctioning pituitary macroadenoma, clinically as well as radiologically. Light microscopically, the present case did not show the typical histology of conventional schwannoma and the confirmative diagnosis was made with the aid of immunohistochemistry and electron microscope. Here, we review the possible hypotheses for pathogenesis of sellar schwannomas on unusual locations.

Schwannoma, also known as a neurilemmoma, neurinoma, and perineural fibroblastoma, can be either a benign or malignant tumor, arising from the associated nerve sheath. A retroperitoneal malignant schwannoma is a rare tumor. Immunohistochemical staining for S-100, leucine-7 and the myelin basic protein is useful for diagnosis. Here we report a case of retroperitoneal malignant schwannoma with a brief review of the literatures.

A case is reported of neurilemmoma of the right masseteric nerve in the masseter muscle. We experienced a 34-years-old male patient who had neurilemmoma in the masseter muscle caused by chronic irritation. Special stain using S-100 immunoperoxidase was useful in establishing the diagnosis in this case. The most important aspect of this case is the anatomical site of the neurilemmoma; this tumor was originated from the masseteric nerve and is the first case reported in the masseter muscle. The patient underwent surgical excision of the tumor and no recurrence occured.

Intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma is a rare benign neoplasm. Due to its rarity, it is not usually a prioritized diagnosis before surgery and may therefore lead to an unintentional treatment error. In this article, we report a single case of intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma. We were able to make a diagnosis with frozen biopsy. A complete resection of the mass while preserving the facial nerve was performed. Herein we present our clinical experience with regards to the treatment process of intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma.

Neurilemoma(schwannoma, neurinoma, Schwann's cell tumor) is a relatively uncommon, slowly growing lesion that usually has been present for a considerable time before diagnosis and treatment are requested. The site of origin is believed to be the ectodermal Schwann cells of the nerve sheath. An interesting variant, known as the ancient neurilemoma, has been reported by Eversole and others. They suggest that the histologic feature that typify this tumor result from degenerative changes which occur as a classic neurilemoma ages. We have experienced a case of schwannoma arising on the nasal tip of a 27 years old man and discussed with brief current literatures review.

case of schwannoma with hemorrhagic cystic degeneration in the right upper mediastinum was admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University in July 2010. The patient shows symptoms of cough and shortness of breath. He received video-assisted thoracoscopic resection of right upper mediastinal mass. This disease displayed different symptoms depending on tumor size and location.
