2.Histopathology clinical characteristic of oropharyngeal carcinoma
Journal of Practical Medicine 2004;487(9):26-28
Study in 195 oropharyngeal carcinoma patients, results showed that this cancer mainly occurred in the group of 40-70 years old (70%), male was more often than female (2.8 times), duration of onset: <3 months: 40%, 3-6 months: 30.2%, 6-12 months: 18.4%, >12 months: 10.7%. Symptoms are: sore throat 59.7%, dysphagia 73.3%, changes of voice 43%, bleeding phlegm 15.8%, difficult swallow 7.8%, and lock-jaw 20.7%. Primary tumors on the right/left were 49.7% and 50.3%. 87.6% of lymph nodes were on the same side of tumors, 12.3% on the opposite side. Most patients have been diagnosed in late stages. 74.8% tumors were squamous cell carcinoma, 25.2% were undifferentiated carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo study the pathological characteristics of salivary malignant myoepithelioma with characteristic multinodular architecture.
METHODSTo observe the histologic and cytologic characteristics of 19 cases of de novo salivary malignant myoepithelioma with multinodular growth pattern. Immunohistochemistry of calponin, SMA, S-100, GFAP, cytokeratin, PCNA was done on 11 cases and ultrastructure was observed on 3 cases.
RESULTS19 tumors presented characteristic multinodular growth pattern, mostly accompanied by central necrosis. Neoplastic nests invaded the surrounding normal tissue and tumor cells displayed a variety of pleomorphism. Epitheliod cell was the most predominant cell type. Tumor-related extracellular matrix formation was revealed among tumor cells. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated that the tumor cells were positive for calponin, SMA, S-100, GFAP, AE1/AE3, CKH and PCNA. Myofilaments were found in neoplastic cell cytoplasm under the electron microscope.
CONCLUSIONHistologic and cytologic observation, immunostaining and ultrastructural study all supported the myoepithelial and malignant nature of the tumor.

AIMTo study the clinical features of male genital schwannoma.
METHODSFive male patients with genital schwannoma admitted from 1991 to 2000 were reviewed. The lesions were located in the prostate, spermatic cord, testis or penis. Tumors were simply resected in 3 patients and radically eradicated in 2.
RESULTSThe average age of the cohort was 37 years. The most common sign at presentation was a palpable genital mass accidentally discovered by the patient or detected by the physician during a physical check. Diagnosis was made through postoperative pathological examination. Follow-up ranged from 2 years to 6 years (mean 4.5 years). Four cases were cured by simple excision and 1 patient with malignant testis schwannoma died of recurrence 1 year after surgery.
CONCLUSIONOwing to the lack of characteristic clinical manifestation, the final diagnosis relies on postoperative pathological examination. S-100 and vimentin are useful markers for the diagnosis of these tumors.

Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae 2006;28(5):724-729
Primary thyroid lymphomas (PTLs) are closely correlated with the autoimmune reaction of thyroid. However, the molecular mechanisms of PTLs are still unclear. It is really necessary to improve the ability to differentiate between benign and malignant PTLs along with the introduction of some new molecular biology methods. The diagnosis and prognosis of PTLs depend on their histological features, pathological classification, and clinical stages. Customized therapy of PTLs becomes possible with the further advances in lymphoma's pathological classification, clinical stages, and international prognosis index standard.
