7.The irrigating effect before and after coronal flaring.

The objective of this in vitro study was to evaluate the efficacy of a Ca(OH)2 removal before and after early coronal flaring using different types of instruments. 100 plastic blocks with 30degrees artificial curved canals were used in this study and randomly divided into a control group and 4 experimental groups(GG, OS, GT, PT Group) 20 teeth each. The canals were instrumented, and Ca(OH)2 was temporary filled into the each canal. Irrigation was performed with Max-i-Probe 25-, 30-gauge probes before and after recapitulation. The results of this study were as follows: 1. There were no significant difference among the groups in size of irrigating needle(p<0.05). 2. There was a significant difference between before and after recapitulation regardless size of irrigating needle(p<0.05). 3. Before recapitulation, there was a significant difference between 25- and 30-gauge needle in all groups(p<0.05). 4. After recapitulation, there was a significant difference between 25- and 30-gauge needle in the control group(p<0.05). But there were no significant difference among the experimental groups. It is concluded that the effectiveness of canal irrigation was decided to the depth of irrigating needle into the canal. The effect of canal irrigation tend to facilitate by the early coronal flaring. The recapitulation was the most effective during canal irrigation regardless the size of irrigating needle. Therefore, the recapitulation is a mandatory way to facilitate the effectiveness of canal irrigation during canal enlargement.

8.Effect of Loss of Epidural Negative Pressure on Spinal Sensory Blokade Level of Spinal Anesthesia.

BACKGROUND: We postulated that loss of epidural negative pressure might affect on the sensory blockade level of spinal anesthesia. METHODS: Thirty nine patients were involved in our study; group 1, spinal anesthsia with 23G spinal needle (n=20): group 2, spinal anesthesia with 27G spinal needle through the 18G Weiss epidural needle (n=19). Sensory blockade level was checked by pinprick test at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 60 and 90 minutes after spinal anesthesia. RESULTS: There was no difference of sensory blockade level between group 1 and 2. CONCLUSION: From above result, there was no evidence of loss of epidural negative pressure affecting on the spinal sensory blockade level.

10.Glass Particle Contamination in Single Dose Ampules upon Opening.

Single dose glass ampules have been developed for ease of administration, accuracy of measurement of dosage, sterility and use in prepackaged kits. Glass particle contamination of the contents of single dose glass ampules can occur upon opening. In our study, we determined whether different ampule size, different aspiration techniques or different methods of ampule opening had any effect on glass particle contamination. Different ampule sizes (1, 2, 20 ml), different aspiration techniques (19G, 22G needle) and different methods of ampule opening (one point ampule, cutting with circular etching, cutting with one plane etching) were evaluated. There was no signifcant difference in the number of particles aspirated by any given aspiration technique, ampule size and method of ampule opening. But intravenous glass particle administration is associated with patholagic responses, so the use of a filter needle, and in-line filter devices and a low pressure infusion system is advised.
