Multiple primary malignancies of the upper aerodigestive tract occurring in the same patient are not commonly reported. The incidence varies from 1% to 20%. Second primary malignancy occurring at the same anatomical location is more common than those that arise from a distant location. We report a case of a 52-year-old Malay man who was previously treated for nasopharyngeal carcinoma with chemoradiotherapy and subsequently developed a basal cell carcinoma complicated by multiple recurrences and squamous cell carcinomas of the temporal region and the nose. Such an occurrence has not been previously reported in the literature.
2.A rare case of large sphenoethmoidal osteoma

Osteoma is the most common benign tumour of the nose
and paranasal sinuses. However, involvement of the
sphenoid sinus by osteoma is rare. Most of the time,
patients with paranasal sinus osteoma are asymptomatic.
However, symptoms may present, depending on the location
and extension of the tumour. We report a case of a patient
with sphenoethmoidal osteoma found incidentally on
imaging, with evidence of impingement onto the optic nerve
at the optic canal. However, the patient was asymptomatic.
He was surgically treated using the endoscopic transnasal
approach.

Archives of Orofacial Sciences 2010;5(2):58-60
Fungal ball is an extramucosal mycosis. The patient may
present with facial pain, nasal blockage, purulent nasal discharge and cacosmia, the fungal ball being present unnoticed for years. Some patients do present as having other nasal problems and later on are found out to have a fungal ball incidentally. We present a case of 38 yearold
man who was clinically diagnosed as having left antrochoanal polyp. Intraoperatively, a fungal ball was discovered in the left maxillary antrum.

The Medical Journal of Malaysia 2015;70(2):98-99
Hibernoma is a slow growing, rare benign tumour, which
derived from brown adipose tissue. This tumour is usually
found in the area where foetal fat persists such as back,
axilla, retro peritoneum and thorax. Hibernoma rarely occurs
in the retro pharynx. We report a case of retropharyngeal
hibernoma in a 44-year-old male. He presented with
obstructive symptoms for six months and a retropharyngeal
mass upon examination. His CT scan findings showed a
mass in the prevertebral region from level of C2 until C5
causing narrowing of upper aero digestive tract.
Histopathological examination reported as hibernoma.

Introduction: Amoebiasis is a parasitic disease caused by
Entamoeba histolytica that may lead to death in developing
countries. Few important risk factors have been identified in
the development of amoebic liver abscess (ALA). There are
limited reports that suggest an association between
antigens of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC)
particularly class II antigens and ALA development. This
present work aimed at studying the possible association of
HLA antigens with ALA and disease severity. Results of the
study may serve as a guide for further immunological
studies dealing with E. histolytica.
Methods: This preliminary study involved two groups of
subjects: 20 ALA patients in the experimental group and 40
healthy individuals in the control group. Cases were
selected from adult Malay patients confirmed with ALA
based on clinical signs and symptoms, radiological findings,
microbiological findings and who were admitted to the
medical or surgical ward, Hospital USM, Kelantan. Venous
blood was obtained from each patient and HLA typing was
then conducted using polymerase chain reaction specific
primer sequence.
Results: HLA DR12 was most frequently found in the healthy
control and ALA groups at 40% and 55% respectively. HLA
DQ7 and DQ8 were found to have the highest percentage in
the ALA group at 65%. In the control group, HLA DQ8 (57.5%)
had the highest percentage.
Conclusion: HLA antigens play a role in acquisition of ALA
and provide understanding of the disease outcome.
