Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology 2014;(18):1195-1198
Objective:To compare the survival of resected gastric cancer patient treated with oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil, and leu-covorin (FOLFOX6) with those treated with oxaliplatin and capecitabine (XELOX). Methods:A total of 147 resected gastric cancer pa-tients accepted the treatment. Among them, 99 were treated with FOLFOX6 and 48 were treated with XELOX. Adverse events and sur-vival rates of the two groups were compared. Results:Incidence of leukopenia and hepatic dysfunction in the FOLFOX6 group was sig-nificantly higher than that of the XELOX group (P<0.05), whereas hand-foot syndrome in the XELOX group was significantly higher than that of the FOLFOX6 group (P=0.016). By contrast, the incidence of other adverse events, such as anemia, thrombocytopenia, nau-sea and vomiting, diarrhea, kidney dysfunction, peripheral neurovirulence, and oral mucositis, was not significantly different (P>0.05) between the two groups. After 1, 3, and 5 years, disease-free and overall survivals between the two groups were not significantly differ-ent (P>0.05). Conclusion:The effects of FOLFOX6 and XELOX adjuvant chemotherapies on long-term survival of resected gastric cancer patients were found to have no significant difference.

Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 1994;0(10):-
A model of s bacute senility state was established in mice by successive retrobulbar injectiou of 80 mg/kg D-galactose for 50 days. Concomitant oral administration of 4 g/kg and 8 g/kg gastrodia can effectively recovcr the decreased ability of the passive avoid ance reaction in the model animals. The activity of RBC SOD and the contents of hydroxyproline in the animals skin were markedly increased as well as the lipofuscin of myocardium. However, gastrodia was less effective to lower lipofuscin in liver and brain.

Objective To evaluate the preventive effect of compound matrine injection on hepatic lesion caused by chemotherapy. Methods 178 patients after gastric and colorectal cancer resection were enrolled into three groups randomly. 56 patients in group A received MFOLFOX6 regimen treatment only, 62 patients in group B received both normal treatment and combined compound matrine injection,60 patients in group C received both normal treatment and glutathione. The change of liver function were observed. Results There was no the hepatotoxicity of Ⅲ-Ⅳ degree in all groups;the incidence of bilirubin and transaminase increasing in group B and C was significantly lower than that group A(P <0.05), but the incidence of ALP/GGT increasing showing no significant difference among the three groups; 72.7 % of the incidence of hepatic lesion in group A happened firstly before the seventh cycle,it was 27.3 % and 33.3 % respectively in group B and group C, the time of the emerging of hepatotoxicity in group B and C was markedly delayed than that group A (P <0.05); there was not significant difference between group B and group C in both bilirubin and transaminase increasing and the time of the emerging of hepatotoxicity (P >0.05). Conclusion Compound matrine injection can prevent and postpone the happening of hepatic lesion caused by adjuvant chemotherapy after digestive tract cancer resection, The result is equal to glutathione. Compound matrine injection also has antineoplastic effects, so the clinical superiority is more obvious.

Objective To observe the expression of thioredoxin (Trx) and thioredoxin-interacting protein (Txnip) in the kidney of type 2 diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin and the effect of probucol treatment on thioredoxin system. Methods Thirty male SD rats were divided into control group( C, n = 10), diabetes group ( D, n =10), and probucol treated diabetic group ( P, n = 10). After eight weeks of probucol treatment, the expressions of Trx and Txnip in the kidney of three groups were measured by RT-PCR, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry. Body weight,24 h microalbuminuria( ALB), fasting plasma glucose( FPG), fasting insulin( HNS), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (Cr), malondialdehyde ( MDA ), superoxide dismutase ( SOD ), and catalase (CAT) were determined. Results Compared with group C, Trx was markedly decreased in group P (0. 162 ±0. 008 vs 0. 239 ±0. 006, P<0.05 ), while Txnip was significantly increased (0. 159±0.003 vs 0. 091 ±0.016, P<0.05 ). Trx in group P was increased as compared with group D (0. 162 ±0. 008 vs 0. 108 ± 0. 013, P < 0. 05 ), while Txnip was lowered (0. 159±0.003 vs 0. 236±0.009 ,P<0.05 ). FPG, 24 h ALB, BUN, Cr,and MDA levels in group D were markedly increased as compared with group C (P<0. 05), while the activity of SOD, CAT, and FINS levels were decreased apparently (P<0.05). The above markers except for FPG in group P were ameliorated (P<0. 05 ).Conclusions Probucol attenuated oxidative stress by means of partially restoring Trx function and reducing Txnip expression, and thus played a major role in renoprotection of type 2 diabetic nephropathy.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2024;36(2):105-108,114
Objective:
To investigate the association between self-rated health status and mortality risk, and to evaluate the predictive value of self-rated health status for mortality risk among the elderly.
Methods:
Based on the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) database, data of sociodemographic information, self-rated health status and mortality of the elderly aged 60 years and older were collected from 2011 to 2018. The association between self-rated health status and mortality risk among the elderly was analyzed using a multivariable Cox proportional risk regression model.
Results:
Totally 4 850 individuals were included, with an median age of 65 (interquartile range, 8) years. There were 2 485 males (51.24%) and 2 365 females (48.76%). There were 877 individuals (18.08%) rated their health as good, 2 078 individuals (42.85%) as general, 1 895 individuals (39.07%) as poor. A total of 28 955 person-years were followed up, with an average follow-up of 5.97 years per person. There were 855 deaths by the end of follow-up in 2018, and the median survival time was 7 (interquartile range, 3) years. Multivariable Cox proportional risk regression analysis showed that there were interactive effects of age, sex and self-rated health status on mortality, respectively (both P<0.05). The results of gender-stratified analysis showed that there was no significant association between self-rated health status and mortality risk in old women (P>0.05). The mortality risk was higher in old men with poor self-rated health than with good self-rated health (<70 years, HR=5.382, 95%CI: 3.263-8.876; 70 to 79 years, HR=3.536, 95%CI: 1.070-11.686; ≥80 years, HR=3.043, 95%CI: 1.827-5.066).
Conclusion
There is an association between self-rated health status and mortality risk among the elderly, the old men with poor self-rated health had a higher mortality risk.
