Although many reports have been published about Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, developmental dysplasia of hip, it is difficult to gain a satisfactory results in treatment. We experienced 9 year-old girl with ipsilateral neglected DDH combined with contralateral LCPD, and treated with Klisic operation for DDH and femoral valgus osteotomy for hinged abduction of LCPD. We gained satisfactory results and report this rare case.

4.Comorbid schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease: a case series and brief review

Traditionally, schizophrenia is considered to be a result of dopaminergic hyperactivity while
dopaminergic deficiency underlies Parkinson’s disease (PD). This opposing pathophysiology makes
comorbid schizophrenia and PD seemingly impossible; however, they do coexist rarely in clinical
practice. We present four patients with paranoid schizophrenia diagnosed in their youth who developed
parkinsonian symptoms on a stable regimen of quetiapine or clozapine after several years. The diagnosis
of comorbid schizophrenia and PD was made mainly according to clinical observation. In addition,
dopamine transporter (DAT) imaging with 18F-FP-CIT PET was done in two patients, which showed
normal DAT density. It is believed that dopaminergic dysfunction in distinct dopaminergic pathways
may explain the coexistence of these two disorders
5.Delphi Study on Introduction of Practical Skills Test in National Examination for Nursing Licensure.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the plan to introduce a practical skills test as part of the national examination for nursing licensure. METHOD: The delphi method was used. The first set of data was collected by open questionnaire from universities and hospitals nationally. The second and third were collected by structured questionnaire. RESULTS: The biggest problem for clinical practice in nursing education was reported as the lack of opportunities for direct nursing practice. The biggest performance problem in job duties for novice nurses was reported as the lack of integrated problem solving skills in a clinical situation. The biggest problem with the current national examination was reported as the use memorizing solutions to test questions. It was suggested that the best plan to resolve problems with the national examination would be to develop test questions representative of the clinical setting and increase personnel in clinical education. About the introduction of a practical skills test as part of the national examination, 56.9% were in agreement and 38.5% disagreed. CONCLUSION: The current national examination has many problems when it comes to testing clinical competency. So, a practical skills test must be deferred to a future time. There are also many difficulties in presenting a real situation, therefore further research is needed in preparation for the introduction of a practical skills test.

6.Analysis of Dermatologic Diseases in Patients Receiving Anticancer Treatments: A Retrospective Study of 140 Cases.

BACKGROUND: A number of anticancer agents are known to induce many adverse reactions in the skin. Related cutaneous adverse drug reactions influence the morbidity, mortality, and anti-cancer regimen of the patients. A multidisciplinary approach to cancer management has been emphasized. OBJECTIVE: To identify the causative anticancer agents and frequency of adverse reactions in the skin. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who consulted at the Dermatology Department of Busan Paik Hospital and Haeundae Paik Hospital from January 2013 to February 2015. RESULTS: A total of 140 patients were enrolled. Among the 45 patients treated with antimetabolite analogs (30 cytarabine, 7 gemcitabine, 3 methotrexate, 2 fludarabine, 2 doxifluridine, and 1 decitabine), exanthematous drug eruption (49.1%) was the most common reaction, followed by hand-foot syndrome (28.3%). Among the 35 patients treated with fluorouracil (22 5-fluorouracil and 13 capecitabine), hand-foot syndrome (47.2%) was the most common, followed by acneiform eruption (25.0%). Among the 24 patients treated with epidermal grow factor receptor inhibitors (10 erlotinib, 10 cetuximab, and 4 gefitinib), acneiform eruption (54.8%) was the most common, followed by xerosis (19.4%). Among the 11 patients treated with anthracyclines (9 doxorubicin, 1 daunorubicin, and 1 idarubicin), acneiform eruption (45.5%) was the most common, followed by hand-foot syndrome (36.4%). Among the 7 patients treated with taxanes (4 docetaxel and 3 paclitaxel), hand-foot syndrome (42.8%) was the most common. Among the 6 patients treated with angiogenesis-inducing inhibitors (3 sorafenib, 2 pazopanib, and 1 sunitinib), hand-foot skin reaction (66.7%) was the most common. Only 2 patients (1.4%) changed treatments due to intolerable skin reactions. CONCLUSION: Clinicians should be aware of the various skin reactions of anticancer agents and predict their clinical course effectively.

7.Two Cases of Philadelphia Chromosome-negative Essential Thrombocythemia Manifested bcr-abl Gene Rearrangement.

Discrepant results have been reported in terms of detecting bcr-abl transcripts in patients with essential thrombocythemia that are Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome-negative. We present two cases of Ph chromosome-negative essential thrombocythemia in whom bcr-abl gene rearrangement was detected. In the diagnosis of both cases, they lacked the splenomegaly, anemia and basophilia, and had high platelet counts (948X10(3)/L and 1,329X10(3)/microL, respectively) and normal leukocyte alkaline phosphatase (LAP) scores on admission without any evidence of inflammation, infection, or therapy. They lacked the Philadelphia chromosome characteristic of classical chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and had b3a2 transcripts.

8.A Case of Pheochromocytoma associated with Ectopic ACTH Syndrome.

The syndrome of ectopic production of ACTH by non-pituitary neoplasm occur with various types of tu#rnors. Pheochromocytoma is a rare, but one of the important causes of this syndrome. Recently we experienced a 36-year-old male patient with ACTH-producing pheochromocytoma. After left adrenalectomy, serum ACTH level retumed to the normal range. The patient became normotensive without antihypertensive agents and hyperglycemia resolved and insulin therapy was discontinued. Secretion of ACTH was confirmed by immunohistochemical stain.

9.Aquaporin-3 Downregulation in Vitiligo Keratinocytes Increases Oxidative Stress of Melanocytes

Oxidative stress-induced melanocyte apoptosis is linked to the immune system and plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of vitiligo. Aquaporin-3 (AQP3), which is downregulated in vitiligo keratinocytes, regulates intracellular H2O2 accumulation. However, the role of AQP3 in oxidative stress is uncertain in vitiligo. This study investigated the effect of downregulated AQP3 on oxidative stress in vitiligo using lesional and non-lesional skin specimen sets from vitiligo patients and primary cultured adult normal human epidermal keratinocytes, with or without downregulation and overexpression of AQP3 in the presence or absence of H2O2 treatment. The levels of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and/or its main target, NAD(P)H quinone dehydrogenase 1 (NQO-1), were lower in the lesional keratinocytes and cultured keratinocytes with AQP3 knockdown, but were increased in keratinocytes upon AQP3 overexpression. Ratios of NRF2 nuclear translocation and NQO-1 expression levels were further reduced in AQP3-knockdown keratinocytes following H2O2 treatment. The conditioned media from AQP3-knockdown keratinocytes treated with H2O2 contained higher concentrations of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Moreover, the number of viable melanocytes was reduced when the conditioned media were added to the culture media. Overall, AQP3 downregulation in the keratinocytes of patients with vitiligo can induce oxidative stress in neighboring melanocytes, leading to melanocyte death.
10.Effect of dentin treatment on proliferation and differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells.

OBJECTIVES: Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is an excellent bactericidal agent, but it is detrimental to stem cell survival, whereas intracanal medicaments such as calcium hydroxide (Ca[OH]2) promote the survival and proliferation of stem cells. This study evaluated the effect of sequential NaOCl and Ca[OH]2 application on the attachment and differentiation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: DPSCs were obtained from human third molars. All dentin specimens were treated with 5.25% NaOCl for 30 min. DPSCs were seeded on the dentin specimens and processed with additional 1 mg/mL Ca[OH]2, 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) treatment, file instrumentation, or a combination of these methods. After 7 day of culture, we examined DPSC morphology using scanning electron microscopy and determined the cell survival rate with 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. We measured cell adhesion gene expression levels after 4 day of culture and odontogenic differentiation gene expression levels after 4 wk using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: DPSCs did not attach to the dentin in the NaOCl-treated group. The gene expression levels of fibronectin-1 and secreted phosphoprotein-1 gene in both the Ca[OH]2- and the EDTA-treated groups were significantly higher than those in the other groups. All Ca[OH]2-treated groups showed higher expression levels of dentin matrix protein-1 than that of the control. The dentin sialophosphoprotein level was significantly higher in the groups treated with both Ca[OH]2 and EDTA. CONCLUSIONS: The application of Ca[OH]2 and additional treatment such as EDTA or instrumentation promoted the attachment and differentiation of DPSCs after NaOCl treatment.
