2.Cephalometric study of the components of Cl III malocclusion in children 8-10 years age.

Many treatment approaches of Cl III malocclusion have been introduced and the choice of treatment should be a function of the individual problem, not of the clinician(personal preference, experience and success rate of the operator). Therefore a function of the individual problem should be analysed exactly. Much has been written in the orthodontic literature concerning the nature of Cl III malocclusion. It has been reported by many investigators that a Cl III malocclusion occurs in a variety of skeletal and dental configurations by differences of race and age. Lateral cephalometric radiographs of 125 individuals were studied for the presence and distribution of four horizontal components and one vertical component in a manner similar to McNamara. The results were as follows 1. Cl III malocclusion is not a single clinical entity. It can result from numerous combinations of skeletal and dental components. 2. Maxillary skeletal retrusion was the most common single characteristic of the Cl III sample. 3 Only a small percentage or the cases in this cases in this study exhibited maxillary dentoalveolar protrusion. 4. Only a small percentage of the cases in this study exhibited mandibular dentoalveolar dentoalveolar retrusion. 5. Mandible was usually well-positioned, but a wide variation was observed. 6. A large percentage of the cases in this study exhibited excessive vertical development. Thus, it appears that in designing the ideal treatment regime, those approaches which might restrict vertical development and promote maxillary horizontal growth could be more appropriate in many cases.

Nonsurgical management of four cases of the parasagittal epidural hematoma were experienced. Patients were mildly symptomatic or minimal neurological disturbances on admission. Patients were treated conservatively because of stable neurologic sign. All patients had who diastatic fracture and / or suture have become a complete neurological recovery with satisfactory absorption of EDH over a period of 5 to 12 weeks.

4.Effects of a Silkworm Extract on Dopamine and Monoamine Oxidase-B Activity in an MPTP-induced Parkinsons Disease Model.

The protective efficacy of a silkworm extract (SE) on N-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced Parkinsonism and its possible mechanisms were studied in C57BL/6 mice. Mice were administrated intraperitoneally with SE (20 mg/kg/day) for 15 days and MPTP (10 mg/kg/day) was administrated subcutaneously into the mice for the first 6 consecutive days 1 hour before SE treatment. All animals were sacrificed 24 hours after the last SE treatment. Then the parameters related to general toxicity and neurobiochemical markers, such as the dopamine level and the activities of monoamine oxidase (MAO)-B, were measured in various regions of the brain. Treatment of mice with SE effectively attenuated the MPTP-induced decline of striatal dopamine level. MAO-B activity in SE-pretreated mice was inhibited in whole brain, cerebellum and substantia nigra. These results suggest that SE plays an effective role in attenuating MPTP-induced neurotoxicity in animal model. These neuroprotective effects of SE are likely the result from the inhibitory effect on MAO-B activity in mouse brain.

Yolk sac tumors are rare malignant germ cell neoplasms that usually arise from the gonads. Extragonadal yolk sac tumors (EGYSTs) frequently occur in the mediastinum in post-pubertal females. EGYSTs in the pelvis are extremely rare, and to date, only thirteen cases have been reported in the English literature. Among them, the primary EGYST of the pelvic peritoneum in post-pubertal females has only been reported in ten cases. The present case describes a 26-year-old female diagnosed with primary peritoneal yolk sac tumor located in the rectouterine pouch. We report clinical and tumor imaging features, including ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance images (MRI), positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT), and present a review of the literature.

Bleeding duodenal varices are a rare complication in patients with portal hypertension. Cirrhosis followed by portal vein obstruction and splenic vein obstruction are the most common causes. Although the prognosis of bleeding duodenal varices is usually poor, an awareness of its characteristic presentation may enable diagnostic and therapeutic proce- dures to be performed rapidly with an increased likelihood of a reaching successful out- come. In this study, we report a case of bleeding duodenal varices in a 23-year-old woman with idiopathic portal hypertension who was also suffering with recurrent melena. Panendoscopy identified prominant tortuous varices with central erosion in the 3rd portion of the duodenum and no esophageal and gastric varices. The varices were successfully treated by distal splenorenal shunt.
