1.A Case of Sparganosis lnfesting on the Human Epididymis.
Korean Journal of Urology 1968;9(2):99-101
Sparganum is parasite infesting principally in the cats or dogs, but many human reported. In Korea, the reported cases of human sparganosis are over 20 cases. However the urogenital infestation of sparganum is relatively rare, and none of any report of infestation in the epididymis is available. We experienced a case of the sparganum infesting on the epididymis which vas confused with the epididymitis on palpation.

A statistical observation ryas made on Genito-Urinary-Tract injuries of Korean Army Personnel in Vietnam War during the period of November, 1965 to November, 1966. and the following results were obtained. 1. The Genito-Urinary-Tract injuries were 15 cases(5.3 per cent) among 825 war causalities. 2. As for the causes of injuries, 25 cases (55.5 per cent) were caused by gunshot, 9(20.O per cent) by booby trap, 5(11. O per cent) by mortar, 3(6.6 per cent) each by crush and grenade. 3. Concerning the frequency of injuries in each organ, 12 cases (6. 6 per cent) each were observed in urethra, in scrotum and testis, 10 (22.2 per cent) in kidney, 8 (17.7 per cent) in bladder, and 3 {6. 6 per cent) in penis. 4.The incidence of Genito-Urinary-Tract injuries associated with the other organs was as follows. In kidney injuries, Z cases were associated with intestine, 4 with liver, 3 with spleen and one each with radial nerve and iliac vessel. In bladder injuries. 2 cases were associated with pelvic bone, and one with spleen. In urethra injuries, 6 cases were associated with pelvic bone and 2 with intestine. 5. As for the multiplicity of Genito-Urinary-injuries, 4 cases were observed in scrotum, testis and urethra, and 3 each in urethra and bladder, and scrotum and testis. 6. The evacuation time from battle fields to the evacuation hospital was one hour in average by helicopter

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1985;20(3):439-444
Between May 1982 and October 1983, arthroscopic meniscectomy had been performed in 54 knees between ages of 11 and 70 years. There were 32 male patients and 22 female patients in this series. The mean follow-up was 20 months, ranging from 15 months to 33 months. Postoperative complications developed were retropatellar tenderness and effusion. No infection, thrombophlebitis or instability occurred postoperatively. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the various possible prognostic factors upon the developtnent of the above mentioned complications. The factors included were 1) shape of tear, 2) ligamentous injury, 3) degenerative arthritia, 4) discoid lateral meniscus, 5) quadriceps atrophy, 6) sites of meniscus(medial or lateral) & extent of excision, 7) preoperative retropatellar tenderness and 8) method of rehabilitation. The findings were statistically analyzed by the Chi-square test (df-1) & Fisher's direct probability method. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The rate of development of postoperative effusion was significantly high in cases of quadriceps atrophy (P<0.01) and preoperative retropatellar tenderness(P<0.01). 2. The rate of deveopment of postoperative retropatellar tenderness was significantly high in case of discoid lateral meniscus (P <0.01). 3. There was no significant correlation between complications and other factors including shape of tear, preoperative degerative arthritis, site of meniscus & extent of excision and methods of rehabilitation.

A case of eosinophilic pustular folliculitis in a 46-year-old woman is presented. The patient showed repeatedly developed erythematous, indurated plaque studded with srnall yellowish pustules on flush area of the left cheek with blood eosinophilia and biopsy revealed histopathological findings of eosinophilic pustular folliculitis. The patient responded well to systemic administration of corticosteroid and dapsone.

Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy 1996;7(3):182-188
Measurement of the serum CA 125 level as a tumor marker in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer has been widely used to monitor disease status and predict survival of patient. While a number of benign gynecologic as well as benign or malignant non-gynecologic conditions are associated with elevations of serum CA 125 levels, the established normal range describes a healthy population of women. Because the metabolism and clearance of CA 125 is not well understood and mild or moderate degrees of renal impairment frequently occurs in ovarian cancer patients during treatment or course of disease, it is valuable to investigate the effect of impaired renal function on serum level of CA 125. Eighty-nine women on hemodialysis who had no other definite cause to elevate serum CA 125 level were selected at random. The age of the patients ranged from 19 to 83 and renal disease was secondary in most cases to diabetes mellitus, hypertension or glomeru-lonephritis. The creatinine clearance was less than 10cc/min for all patients. (continue)

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 1999;56(Suppl):1017-1023
BACKGROUND: Gallstones have been one of the most common gastrointestinal diseases to surgeons which open cholecystectomy has been the standard operation for the past one hundred years. Recently, operations with a laparoscope have become popular and are spreading worldwide. METHODS: A clinical analysis of 200 cases who had been treated by laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallstone disease in Seoul Red Cross Hospital for 4 years from July 1993 to June 1997 was done according to age, sex, advantage, and complication. RESULTS: The results were as follows. 1) Among the 200 cases, there were 69 male patients and 131 female patients, with a female to male ratio of 1.9:1. The most prevalent age group was the 6th decade with 59 cases (29.5%) and the 7th decade with 43 cases (21.5%), the 5th decade with 41 cases (20.5%) and the 4th decade with 29 cases (14.5%) in order of frequency. 2) The associated diseases were hypertension with 25 cases (12.5%), diabetes mellitus with 12 cases (6.0%), cardiopulmonary disease with 11 cases (5.5%), and hepatitis with 10 cases (5.0%) in order of frequency. 3) The cases of previous abdominal operations were 75 cases (37.5%). The most frequent operations were appendectomy with 33 cases (16.5%), C-section with 12 cases (6.0%), laparoscopic tubal ligation with 11 cases (5.5%), salphingo- oophorectomy with 8 cases (4.0%) and T.A.H with 8 cases (4.0%) in order of frequency. 4) The most frequent pathologic diagnosis was chronic cholecystitis with 187 cases (93.5%). 5) The operation time ranged from 30-180 minutes with an average of 81 minutes. The operation time for the first 10 cases was 77 minutes, but it was been reduced to 58 minutes in the last 10 cases. 6) Conversion to an open cholecystectomy during the operation was done in 6 cases (3.0%), and the cause of conversion were uncontrolled bleeding with 2 cases (1.0%), severe adhesion with 2 cases (1.0%) and GB empyema with 2 cases (1.0%). 7) Postoperative analgesics were needed in 81 cases (40.5%) on the operative day, 71 cases (35.5%) on the 1st postoperative day, 26 cases (12.5%) on the 2nd postoperative day, 6 cases (3.0%) on the 3rd postoperative day, and 3 cases (1.5%) on the 4th postoperative day, and the use of analgesics was reduced as times went by. 8) The length of hospital stay ranged from 2 to 10 day with an average of 4.13 day, and 74 cases (37.0%) experienced a 3 to 6 day hospitalization, which was the most common hospital stay. 9) The total postoperative complication rate was 5.0% (n=10) with 2 cases (1.0%) of wound infection and 2 cases (1.0%) of ileus, and there was no postoperative mortality.

Korean Journal of Urology 1970;11(4):259-262
The spermatic granuloma is a granulomatous inflammation which is the tissue reaction due to extravasated sperm. Its exact causes and mechanism are not clearly evaluated. Its clinical interest is that it often confused with tuberculous epididymitis and other epididymal conditions. We experienced a case of spermatic granuloma that was clinically confused with tuberculous epididymitis in 23-year old Korean male.
