Twenty-five paraffin-embedded tumor tissues were analyzed for detection of HPV 16 and 18 in cervical adenocarcinoma by polymerase chain reaction with type specific primers and by non-radioactive Southern blot hybridization for confirmation . The suitability of paraffin-embedded tissue as PCR material was confirmed by successful amplification of 100% of cervical specimens with human -globin specific primer. Eighty four percent of the cervical adenocarcinoma tissues were positive for HPV 16 and/or 18. HPV 16 positive rate was 68%, HPV 18 was 60%. The double infection with HPV 16 and 18 was found in 44%. Three cases of the negative specimen in PCR for each type of HPV DNA 16 and 18 were positive in Southern blot hybridization. The total positive rate was 92% for HPV 16 and/or HPV 18, HPV 16 positive rate was 80%. HPV 18 was 72%. The double infection with HPV 16 and 18 was 60%. These results suggest that the pattern of HPV types 16 and 18 is closely associated with carcinogenesis of cervical cancers. HPV type 18 appears to be preferentially related to cervical adenocarcinoma and the poor prognosis of these patients. Therefore, determination of HPV DNA type in cervical carcinoma patients is important in treatment and prognosis.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this research is to enhance organizational competitiveness of health centers as well as private medical institutions serving as public health and medical institutions. It tries to help them to cope with the requirements from health consumers, to enhance public health nurses' job performance. METHODS: After verifying the reliability of the tool, confirmatory factor analysis was used to detect a model, in which valid path coefficients exist among variables. The detected model was then selected as the subject and its validity was verified. Finally, a structural equation model was applied to verify whether the estimate was suitable for the purpose of this research. RESULTS: As for the nursing organizational culture, the public health nurses considered relation-oriented culture the most desirable. As for the self-leadership, they considered self-compensation the most desirable. It was found that mediating effects of self-leadership was partially significant. CONCLUSION: To enhance job performance, it is necessary to make a transition from the organizational culture to the relation-oriented culture and it is also necessary to develop a program capable of reinforcing self-leadership. In addition, it is necessary to conduct a research to verify whether such a developed self-leadership program is influential on job performance enhancement.

OBJECTIVES: Insufficient sleep could have harmful effects on mental health. We examined the mental health status of Korean adolescents according to daily sleep time and subjective sleep satisfaction using a nationwide representative sample of Korean adolescents. METHODS: Data from the 2016 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey was used. Sleep duration on weekdays and subjective sleep satisfaction during the past week were asked. Participants' perceived health, happiness, stress, depressive mood, and suicidality during past 12 months were also investigated. Participants were classified by mean duration of daily sleep time and the level of sleep satisfaction, and the odds of having mental health problems were compared. RESULTS: Compared to adolescents who slept more than 6 hours per day and satisfied with their sleep, adolescents who slept less than 6 hours per day and/or dissatisfied with their sleep were less likely to perceive themselves healthy and happy. They were also more likely to have severe stress, depressive mood, and suicidality, with highest odds ratios among adolescents with both short and dissatisfying sleep. CONCLUSIONS: Given the significant associations between sleep insufficiency and mental health problems, attention to the sleep shortage among Korean adolescents is needed. Prospective studies are warranted to elucidate the causal relationships between subjective and objective sleep insufficiency and psychiatric conditions.

Hemodialysis(HD)-associated hypotension is a frequent complication, but it is difficult to manage. Until now, several maneuvers have been tried to prevent the HD-associated hypotension. Of these, the sodium content of dialysate was regarded as an important factor for maintaining blood pressure during HD. In this study, we evaluated the effect of hypertonic dialysate on blood pressure, interdialytic weight gain and the incidence of thirst. The study was done for 6 weeks successively with 3 different groups. Each patient was dialysed with 3 different dialysates for 2 weeks: Group I(Conventional HD: sodium concentration: 137 mEq/L), Group II(Hypertonic HD: 147 mEq/L) and Group III (Sequential HD: from 147 to 140 mEq/L). Hemodynamic parameters(blood pressure, pulse rate and ultrafiltration rate), biochemical parameters(hematocrits, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, osmolality, sodium, potassium, chloride, fasting blood sugar) and complications (interdialytic weight gain &thirsty sensation) were compared among 3 groups. The results were as follows: 1. Decline of systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure at the time of a 3 hour check during hemodialysis was lower in the Group II than Group I and III (p=0.002; p=0.012). and decline of diastolic blood pressure at the time of a 4 hour check during hemodialysis was lower in the Group II and III than Group I(p=0.04). 2. ncidence of hypotensive episodes during dialysis was significantly lower in Group II than group I (p=0.0287). 3. The ultrafiltration in Group III at the time of 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour check during hemodialysis was higher than that in Group I and II at the time of 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour check during emodialysis respectively (p=0.0001; p=0.0001; p=0.0004). 4. Interdialytic weight gain was higher in Group II(3.1+/-0.8) than GroupI(2.8+/-0.8) and III (2.9+/-0.9) (p=0.0422). 5. Hematologic and biochemical results were not significantly different among 3 Groups. 6. Frequency of thirst was different in Group I, II and III, 0.05+/-0.12, 0.41+/-0.24 and 0.22+/-0.29 respectively (p=0.0259). The results suggest that hypertonic HD was effective in preventing HD-associated hypotension but interdialytic weight gain and thirst sensations were increased as compared with a conventional method. In this situation, sequential HD seems to be an alternative method to minimizes the side effect of hypertonic HD.

BACKGROUND: The stress of operation inhibits bowel motility. The blockade of efferent sympathetic nerve is helpful to recovery of bowel motility. So we tried to examine that the extent of sympathetic blockade by alterations of bupivacaine infusion rate affected the recovery of bowel motility. METHODS: Group 1 (N = 25) received postoperative meperidine intramuscular injection on demand as a control group, group 2 (N = 25) received postoperative epidural 0.125% bupivacaine 100 ml plus morphine 10mg by infusion pump, 1 ml/hour, for 4days, group 3 (N = 25) received 0.125% bupivacaine 400 ml plus morphine 10mg by infusion pump, 4 ml/hour, for 4days. The Group 2 and 3 received additional morphine 2mg in 0.2% bupivacaine 10 ml epidurally as a single bolus when the peritoneum was closed. The time interval from termination of operation to the first passage of flatus was estimated. RESULTS: In group 1, bowel motility was regained at 92+/-23 hours, group 2 ; 90+/-19 hours and group 3 ; 91+/-19 hours. All values are not significantly different among the groups (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The alteration of epidural bupivacaine and morphine infusion rate did not affect the recovery of postoperative bowel motility.

PURPOSE: This case-control study was designed to investigate the possible association of the metabolic syndrome(MS) with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) in healthy males. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the data of 702 men who had a general health check-up without significant evidence of disease. The database for health check-ups included demographic, anthropometric, serum-related and prostate-related data. The presence of the MS was determined according to the NCEP-ATPIII criteria. We compared prostate- related data between the MS and the non-MS group. Testing for linear trends and logistic regression were performed to determine whether the presence of the MS was associated with an increased risk for BPH. RESULTS: The MS was identified in 166 men(23.6%). There was an increased prevalence of both the MS and BPH along with increasing age. There was a tendency for the total prostate volume and the PSA to increase along with the an increasing number of factors related to the metabolic syndrome. In a comparison between the MS and non-MS group, there were no differences in the prostate-related variables. However, subgroup analysis in men less than 50 showed significant differences in the PSA, total volume and calculated annual growth rate. In addition, only in this group was the presence of the MS a significant risk factor for BPH(odd ratio; OR=2.21, 95% confidence interval; CI 1.28-4.75). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study showed a weak but significant relationship between the MS and BPH, especially in men less than 50. Further longitudinal studies with a larger patient population are required to confirm our findings.

BACKGROUND: This study was designed to evaluate the role of KATP channel activation and change of monophasic action potential duration on cardioprotective effect of ischemic preconditioning in cat. METHODS: 34 cats were divided into 4 groups: control (n=10), ischemic preconditioning(n=8), glibenclamide pre-treated(n=8) and nicorandil pre-treated group(n=8). Ischemic preconditioning was done in ischemic preconditioning and glibenclamide pre-treated groups by 3 episodes of 5 min ischemia and 10 min reperfusion. All subjects underwent 40 min of ischemia and 40 min reperfusion. The KATP channel antagonist glibenclamide was given as intravenous bolus (0.5mg/kg) 10 min before ischemic precondtioning and infused (5 microgram/min) during ischemic preconditioning. Nicorandil, a KATP channel opener was injected as intravenous bolus (0.5mg/kg) before 40 min ischemic procedure. Monophasic action potential duration at 50% repolarization(MAP50) was measured in the ischemic and non-ischemic area respectively by epicardial probe throughout the experiment. The effects of ischemic preconditioning were determined by infarct size (% area at risk). RESULTS: Ischemic preconditioning or pretreatment with nicorandil prior to 40 min ischemia demonstrated a significant reduction in infarct size(26.6+/-7%, 33+/-8% infarction of the risk zone, respectively, p<0.01, p<0.05 vs. control) with respect to control(42+/-7% infarction of the risk zone). Pretreatment with glibenclamide abolished the effect of ischemic preconditioning(40+/-8% infarction of the risk zone, p=NS vs. control) Ischemic preconditioning group exhibited a significant reduction of ischemic area MAP50 duration in the ischemic area during preconditioning; at first preconditioning 123+/-9msec vs. 137+/-19msec control(p=NS), at second preconditioning 105+/-16msec vs. 140+/-19msec control(p<0.01), at third preconditioning 109+/-15msec vs. 138+/-19msec control(p<0.05). Pretreatment with glibenclamide prevented the reduction of MAP50 in the ischemic area during ischemic preconditioning. During 40 minutes ischemia, MAP50 shortening was more pronounced in the preconditioned group than in control group; at 10 min 85+/-22 msec vs. 131+/-31msec control(p<0.05), at 20 min 88+/-21msec vs. 130+/-32msec control(p<0.05), and at 30 min 103+/-24msec vs. 136+/-30msec control(p<0.05). This shortening effect was prevented by glibenclamide pretreatment. Nicorandil pretreatment pronounced the ischemic shortening of MAP50 in ischemic area and the nicorandil effect was most significant during early ischemic period; at 10 min 97+/-21msec(p<0.05 vs. control), at 20 min 104+/-32msec (p=NS vs. control), and at 30 min 134+/-28msec(p=NS vs. control). MAP50 measured in non-ischemic area was not significantly different between groups. CONCLUSION: We conclude that KATP channel activation and monophasic action potential duration shortening play a important role in myocardial protection during ischemic injury.

BACKGROUND: Clonidine, an 2-adrenergic agonist, shows the analgesic effect and potentiates the analgesic effect of opioid. However, when it is injected with bolus technique, it reveals the short duration of inadequate analgesia and induces hypotension, bradycardia or sedation. We examined the analgesic and side effects of clonidine administered by continuous epidural infusion over 24 hrs, following epidural morphine injection. METHODS: Sixty parturients, scheduled for elective cesarean section under epidural anesthesia were randomly allocated into three groups. They received an infusion of saline alone (group 1, n= 20), clonidine 20 g/hr (group 2, n= 20), or 40 g/hr (group 3, n= 20) respectively, following epidural morphine 3 mg injection at the end of operation. The total doses and number of request for supplemental analgesic, blood pressure, heart rate, and degree of sedation were measured during 24 hrs. RESULTS: There were significant differences in pain relief between clonidine groups and group 1. The total doses and number of patient's request for supplemental analgesic in clonidine groups, compared to group 1 were significantly decreased (p<0.05), but no significant differences between the two clonidine groups. The diastolic pressure of group 3 was significantly lower than that of group 1 over 24 hrs, and that of group 2 at 18 hr, 24 hr (p<0.05). However, there was no severe hypotension, bradycardia or sedation in the three groups. CONCLUSION: Clonidine administered by continuous epidural infusion over 24 hrs enhances the analgesic effect of epidural morphine, and the infusion of clonidine with 20 g/hr rather than 40 g/hr shows minimal changes of blood pressure. Therefore, administration of epidural clonidine (20 g/hr) following epidural morphine may be considered as a regimen for pain management after cesarean section.

This study explored the trends of Genomics & Informatics during the period of 2003-2018 in comparison with 11 other scholarly journals: BMC Bioinformatics, Algorithms for Molecular Biology: AMB, BMC Systems Biology, Journal of Computational Biology, Briefings in Bioinformatics, BMC Genomics, Nucleic Acids Research, American Journal of Human Genetics, Oncogenesis, Disease Markers, and Microarrays. In total, 22,423 research articles were reviewed. Content analysis was the main method employed in the current research. The results were interpreted using descriptive analysis, a clustering analysis, word embedding, and deep learning techniques. Trends are discussed for the 12 journals, both individually and collectively. This is an extension of our previous study (PMCID: PMC6808643).
