Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1990;31(2):207-213
The effect of Carteolol hydrocholride on the Na-K ATPase of anterior capsule and epithelium of cattle lens has been investigated. The experiments were also designed to determine the action of Carteolol hydrochloride on the Na-K ATPase activity in anterior capsule and epithelium of cattle lens. The following results were observed. 1. The predominent location of Na-K ATPase was located in the epithelim and NaK ATPase was closely related with active trasport system of sodium and potassium in the lens epithelium. 2. The activity of Na-K ATPase of cattle lens epithelium was alomst totally inhibited by Ouabain. 3. Beta-adrenergic blocking agent(Carteolol hydrochloride) in the epithelium of cattle lens was shown to be actively transported by the ATPase. 4. The Na-K ATPase activity of cattle lens epithelium was inhibited by Carteolol hydrochloride.

Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2008;47(6):561-567
Traumatic injury can result not only in physical disability but also in mental and behavioral sequelae. It is very important to properly judge the severity of disability as well as the need for assistance and future medical treatment. It is very difficult to establish objective guidelines for assessing mental and behavioral disabilities due to the inherent peculiarity of the disabilities. This study uses reports generated for court because they need to be more judicious than reports for other types of evaluation. We analyzed reports concerning the facts and problems associated with evaluation of mental and behavioral disabilities. We hope this study will help further our understanding of mental and behavioral disabilities.

BACKGROUND: We evaluate the efficacy of ultra-hydrophilic coated bypass circuits in comparison with uncoated bypass circuits in a porcine cardiopulmonary bypass model. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Normothermic cardiopulmonary bypass was performed in 10 anesthetized pigs via the left atrium and ascending aorta with a centrifugal biopump. Ultra-hydrophilic coated bypass circuits were used in 5 pigs (the study group) and uncoated bypass circuits were used for the control group. Platelet counts and platelet aggregation tests were performed. The thrombin-antithrombin (TAT) complex level and total protein level were evaluated. RESULT: There were no significant changes in the platelet counts and aggregation ability of both groups. The TAT complex levels were not different between the two groups. The total protein level was significantly lower in the control group after cessation of cardiopulmonary bypass. CONCLUSION: The clinical effects of ultra-hydrophilic coating circuits were not remarkable, in terms of reducing inflammatory reaction and protection of platelet function. However, the effect of protection for blood protein adsorption might be acceptable.

Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases 1996;43(2):173-181
BACKGROUND: Several studies have suggested that impaired mucociliary clearance plays a role in the pathophysiology of bronchial asthma. Cough productive of mucoid sputum is common, and mucous plugs in the airways are frequently observed. These clinical features are in keeping with the histologic lesions of asthma, which involve primarily the epithelial and mucous-producing structures of the conducting airways. Some studies have shown that the mucociliary clearance is impaired in adult asthma, but it has not been studied in childhood asthma. The objectives of this study were to examine whether the mucociliary clearance is impaired in childhood asthma and to estimate the degree of impairment in comparison with that of immotile cilia syndrome. METHOD: Thirteen children with mild stable asthma and eight patients with immotile cilia syndrome completed this study. Ten healthy children were recruited as a normal control group. The whole-lung mucociliary clearance was measured by the radioaerosol technique. Aerosols, tin colloid particles tagged with the radionuclide technetium-99m(99mTc), were generated by means of nebulizer, and inhaled via a mouthpiece. The retention of radioactivity was measured at 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes by gamma camera, and mucociliary clearance was calculated as percent retention at each time. RESULTS: 1) In each subject, the percent retention decreased variably with the lapse of time. 2) The percent retention of radionuclide decreased at each time in order of normal control, bronchial asthma and immotile cilia syndrome and the percent retention of immotile cilia syndrome was significantly higher than that of normal control at each time(p<0.05). 3) At two hours, the percent retention of bronchial asthma(65.0 1.8(SE)%) was significantly higher than that of the normal control(54.4 3.5%, p<0.05), and significantly lower than that of immotile cilia syndrome(73.3 +/- 1.4%, p<0.01). 4) When the percent retention was analyzed according to PC20 in the children with bronchial asthma, they had no relationship with each other. CONCLUSION: Mucociliary clearance in the children with bronchial asthma was significantly lower than normal control. This finding indicates that impaired mucociliary clearance operates in childhood asthma as well, and suggests that it may be one contributing factor in the pathogenesis of asthma. The degree of impairment, however, was not so severe as immotile cilia syndrome.

9.One Case of Ovarian Pregnancy diagnosed at 14 weeks of gestational age.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2001;44(1):180-183
Ovarian pregnancy is an uncommon form of ectopic gestation that is often difficult to diagnose. The diagnostic criteria were described in 1878 by Spiegelberg, which comprise that the pregnancy is in the ovary and does not involve the tube. Primary ovarian pregnancy results in maternal hemorrhage early in the first trimester, and is usually accompanied by rupture of ovary with hemoperitoneum to require emergency operation. Misdiagnosis is common because it is confused with a ruptured corpus luteum. One case of ovarian pregnancy was presented with a brief review of literatures.

Journal of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons 2009;36(6):784-787
PURPOSE: Reduction mammaplasty is one of the most commonly performed operations in plastic surgery. Although secondary surgery is occasionally required for minor aesthetic problems or for treatment of the complications of the primary surgery, there are no clear operative guidelines of management. We report here two cases of secondary reduction mammaplasty using differrent pedicle from the initial ones. METHODS: One case of secondary reduction mammaplasty were performed using medial pedicle after central (19 years) pedicle reduction mammaplasty because of subsequent breast ptosis and asymmetry. The other case was performed using medial pedicle after superior (4 years) pedicle reduction mammaplasty with contralateral immediate breast reconstruction with TRAM flap because of subsequent breast ptosis and asymmetry. Care was taken to include sufficient width of pedicle and adequate soft tissue attachment beneath the nipple-areolar complex. RESULTS: There was no significant complication such as nipple-areolar necrosis or fat necrosis. The results were well maintained throughout the follow-up period. CONCLUSION: Medial pedicle reduction mammaplasty can be safely performed after central or superior pedicle reduction mammaplasty when sufficient width of pedicle and adequate soft tissue attachment beneath the nippleareolar complex are maintained.
