Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1990;31(2):207-213
The effect of Carteolol hydrocholride on the Na-K ATPase of anterior capsule and epithelium of cattle lens has been investigated. The experiments were also designed to determine the action of Carteolol hydrochloride on the Na-K ATPase activity in anterior capsule and epithelium of cattle lens. The following results were observed. 1. The predominent location of Na-K ATPase was located in the epithelim and NaK ATPase was closely related with active trasport system of sodium and potassium in the lens epithelium. 2. The activity of Na-K ATPase of cattle lens epithelium was alomst totally inhibited by Ouabain. 3. Beta-adrenergic blocking agent(Carteolol hydrochloride) in the epithelium of cattle lens was shown to be actively transported by the ATPase. 4. The Na-K ATPase activity of cattle lens epithelium was inhibited by Carteolol hydrochloride.

Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2008;47(6):561-567
Traumatic injury can result not only in physical disability but also in mental and behavioral sequelae. It is very important to properly judge the severity of disability as well as the need for assistance and future medical treatment. It is very difficult to establish objective guidelines for assessing mental and behavioral disabilities due to the inherent peculiarity of the disabilities. This study uses reports generated for court because they need to be more judicious than reports for other types of evaluation. We analyzed reports concerning the facts and problems associated with evaluation of mental and behavioral disabilities. We hope this study will help further our understanding of mental and behavioral disabilities.

BACKGROUND: We evaluate the efficacy of ultra-hydrophilic coated bypass circuits in comparison with uncoated bypass circuits in a porcine cardiopulmonary bypass model. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Normothermic cardiopulmonary bypass was performed in 10 anesthetized pigs via the left atrium and ascending aorta with a centrifugal biopump. Ultra-hydrophilic coated bypass circuits were used in 5 pigs (the study group) and uncoated bypass circuits were used for the control group. Platelet counts and platelet aggregation tests were performed. The thrombin-antithrombin (TAT) complex level and total protein level were evaluated. RESULT: There were no significant changes in the platelet counts and aggregation ability of both groups. The TAT complex levels were not different between the two groups. The total protein level was significantly lower in the control group after cessation of cardiopulmonary bypass. CONCLUSION: The clinical effects of ultra-hydrophilic coating circuits were not remarkable, in terms of reducing inflammatory reaction and protection of platelet function. However, the effect of protection for blood protein adsorption might be acceptable.

The Brunner's gland adenoma is characterized by a nodular proliferation of histologically normal Brunner's gland, accompanied by ducts and scattered stromal elements. First descrived by Salvioli in 1876, the tumor is relatively rare, with 119 cases reported by 1977, The most common benign tumor of the small bowel is the adenoma, 25% of which occur in the duodenum. They make up 30% to 50% of all hyperplastic polyps of the duodenum. Most frequently these tumors are discovered in patients in the fourth to sixed decades of life, though the age in reported caes ranges from l 1 days to 80 years. The benign tumors of the duodenum 30% to 50% contain elements of Brunner's gland and 10.6% of them are adenomas of Brunner's gland. We report a case of Brunner's gland adenoma treated by endoscopic polypectomy in 63 year-old woman, and reviewed the literatues of adenoma of the Brunne'r gland.
