Objective To analyze the genetic characterizations of wild type measles viruses caused the measles outbreak in Xinjiang. Methods Vero/Slam cell were used for measles viruses isolation from the specimens collected from measles outbreaks patients. Fragment of 676 nucleotide acids of the carboxylend of nucleoprotein gene were amplified using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reation (RT-PCR) method and then the PCR products were directly sequenced and analyzed. Phylogenetic tree was constructed based on 450 nucleotide acids of the N-terminus of nucleoprotein gene, and homological analysis was performed at nucleotide acid level. Results 11 measles viruses were sequenced and all belonged to H1a subgenotype.The nucleotide difference was 0-0. 2% between 11 Xinjiang isolates. And the nucleotide difference was 2.2%-2.4% between Xinjiang isolates and H1 genotype reference strain. Conclusion The Measles viruses causing the measles outbreak in Xinjiang were H1a subgenotype.

Objective To identify the Para-Bombay blood group on the basis of its serological characteristics .Methods ABO blood typing , H antigen detection , absorption and elution test , and saliva neutralization test were conducted for serological identification of ABO blood group .PCR-SSP was used to sequence FUT1 and FUT2 genes.Results Results of ABO genotyping of eight individuals of the Para-Bombay blood group were consistent with results of their serological blood typing.Among these cases, there were 3 cases of Amh,4 cases of Bmh,and 1 case of Abmh.The results of their FUT1 genotyping were h1h1 in 3 cases, h2h2 in 2 cases and h1h2 in 3 cases.Conclusion The differentce of agglutination intensity between Ac and Bc in reverse ABO blood typing and abnormal Oc agglutination is of greet significance for Para -Bombay blood group.

Objective To evaluate the function autotransplanted parathyroid tissues in thyroid surgery.Methods The control group comprised 120 volunteers with normal parathyroid glands in whom serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels in blood samples taken from the bilateral elbow head veins.The experimental group comprised 34 patients in whom the parathyroid glands,which were mistakenly cut or could not be preserved during thyroid surgery because of ischemia,were fragmented and autografted into the brachioradialis muscle of the nondominant forearm.On the day of surgery and at 3 days,7 days,and 2 months postoperatively,contrast imaging and detection of serum PTH levels were performed to evaluate the function of the transplanted parathyroid tissues.Results In the control group,the mean value of the difference between the bilateral brachiocephalic vein PTH levels was ( 1.19 ± 0.98 ) ng/L ( maximum 4.52 ng/L).In this study,twice the maximum value(9.04 ng/L) was taken as the effective standard.Based on the 9.04 ng/L effective value,the effective number was 26 patients and the effective rate was 76.5％ at 2 months postoperatively in the 34 patients of the experimental group.Conclusions The autotransplanted parathyroid tissues showed their dunctions in most patients,therefore,parathyroid gland autotransplantation is an effective method of preserving function of parathyroid glands that are free or severely ischemic in thvroid surgery.

Objective To evaluate the salvage central neck dissection (CND) for papillary thyroid cancer in the patients with suspicious residual positive lymph nodes in the central compartment.Methods A total of 85 cases undergoing salvage CND between January 2006 to Janurary 2009 was reviewed.Results Fifty-nine (69.4％) of the 85 patients showed residual positive lymph nodes in the central compartments.The number of dissected lymph nodes for each dissection ranged 2 - 13 nodes,with an average of 5.7 nodes.A total of 159 positive lymph nodes were found in the 59 cases,with an average of 2.7 positive nodes in each case.Four of 6 patients who underwent initial CND in other hospitals were found with residual positive nodes in the central apartments.The incidence of postoperative complications for the salvage CND was 10.6％(9/85),of them 5 cases with hoarsness,2 cases with transient hypoparathyroidism, 1 case with postoperative bleeding,and 1 case with subplatysmal effusion. The median of follow-up after salvage CND was 44 months (3-5 years),showing contralateral central recurrence in 1 case,lateral neck recurrence in 4 cases,lung metastasis in 1 case,and no death case.Conclusions Salvage CND should be done for those patients without undergoing initial CND but with positive nodes found after thyroidectomy or the high risks ( T3,T4,extrathyroid extension,residual in primary site,and vascular or lymphatic vessel invasion) ; and also for those patients with initial CND but insufficient extent.

Ferroptosis is distinct from apoptosis,autophagy,necrosis,cornification and other cell deaths from morphological,biochemical as well as genetic aspects.Ferroptosis plays a critical role in neurological diseases and cancers.Neurological diseases,such as Alzheimer's disease,Parkinson's disease,Huntington's disease,stroke,periventricular leukomalacia and so on,are characterized by multiple etiologies and mechanisms,and are potentially correlated with ferroptosis.Based on the recent researches on ferroptosis and neurological diseases,this review investigates ferroptosis and its role in neurological diseases.

OBJECTIVETo examine the effect of particulate matter (PM) less than 10 microns in diameter (PM10) and ozone (O3) on daily mortality in Shanghai, China.

METHODSA generalized additive model with penalized spline function was used to observe the acute effect of PM10 and O3 on daily mortality.

RESULTSHigher PM10 significantly increased the effect of O3 on total mortality, and O3 also increased the effect of PM10 although the estimated increment was statistically insignificant.

CONCLUSIONOur findings provide further evidence for the effect of PM10 and O3 on daily mortality.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinicopathological features of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (PLAM).

METHODSBy means of HE and immunohistochemistry (SP method) studies, the clinical and pathological features of 5 PLAM cases were analyzed and the related literature reviewed.

RESULTSPLAM was a rare lung disease of unknown etiology and was restricted to females who were generally pre-menopausal. Pathological features showed abnormal smooth muscle cells (LAM cells) line the airways, lymphatics and blood vesssels leading to airflow obstruction and replacement of the lung parenchyma by cysts. LAM cells were positive for HMB45. Clinically the disease was categorized by dyspnoea, haemoptysis, recurrent pneumothoraces and chylous effusions.

CONCLUSIONSPLAM should be considered when recurrent pneumothorax, haemoptysis and dyspnoea occur in females. Pathologic examination of lung tissue biopsy is required for confirmation of PLAM diagnosis.

This paper reviewed the advances on effective constituents and biological activities of coumarins in recent ten years. Coumarins are a group of important natural compounds, and have been found to have multi-biological activities such as anti-HIV, anti-tumor, anti-hypertension, anti-arrhythmia, anti-osteoporosis, assuaging pain, preventing asthma and antisepsis. Therefore, further investigation should emphasize on improving techniques for extraction and separation, searching the effective precursory compound, and synthesizing and screening out courmarin derivatives with high activity and low toxicity.

Objective To investigate the current condition of Keshan disease(KD), and inner and outer environmental selenium (Se) levels in Shandong Province, in order to provide scientific evidence for the research, prevention and control work. Methods Inhabitants from 20 villages of 8 counties in KD endemic areas were selected as subjects undergoing general physical examination and electrocardiogram (ECG). Suspicious cases were followed up by chest X-ray radiographs. Meanwhile the Se contents in hair, wheat, corn and sweet potato were measured. Results Ninety one patients with KD, including 82 with latent KD and 9 with chronic KD, were screened out of 2613 inhabitants. The total incidence of KD was 3.48% (91/2613), while the incidence of latent and chronic KD was 3.14%(82/2613) and 0.34%(9/2613) respectively. No new cases of acute or sub-acute KD were found. A total of 368 abnormal ECCs were discovered and the rate of abnormal ECG detected among surveyed population was 14.08% (368/2613). Out of 113 suspects who took X-ray, 57 cases had cardiomagaly. In 217 samples of hair, 228 samples of wheat, 214 samples of corn and 190 samples of sweet potato that were collected, the Se contents were determined by fluorescence. The average Se content in hair, wheat,corn and sweet potato were (0.406±0.090), (0.026±0.009), (0.023±0.010), (0.024±0.006)mg/kg respectively. Conclusions Current condition of KD in Shandong Province remains relatively stable. Se content was increased in the hair, nearly achieving the level in normal areas, but remains low in food.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate advantages of the superficial lobe preservation in the parotidectomy of deep-lobe tumors, which include much lower incidence in postparotidectomy depression, variable aesthetic deformities, facial nerve injury and Frey's syndrome.

METHODSThis retrospective review included 114 patients with benign parotid gland tumors hospitalized from 2001 to 2004, among which 13 patients with deep-lobe parotid tumors and 101 patients in the superficial lobe of parotid gland. Seven in the 13 patients with deep-lobe tumors were operated with the method of the superficial lobe preservation.

RESULTSDuring median 3 years and 3 months following-up, no any cases with either tumor recurrence, permanent facial nerve injury, postparotidectomy depression, or Frey's syndrome was found in the 7 operated patients. Only 1 case with the facial nerve marginal mandibular branch palsy occurred, but completely recovered over a 3-month period of time.

CONCLUSIONSPreservation of the superficial lobe for deep-lobe tumors parotidectomy could decrease the incidence of parotidectomy complications without any influence in the treatment effect. Additionally, the parotid function preservation and cosmetic appearance after operation also satisfy both the patients and surgeons.
