Objective To investigate the effect of low frequency electric deep brain stimulation on amygdale kindling in rats. Methods The amygdale kinkling model of rats was established by operation on the brain. The effects of low frequency deep brain electric stimulation used alone or in combination with anti-epilepsy drugs were ob- served in terms of severity of seizure attack reflected by Racine's scale and afterdischarge duration recorded in electro- encephalogram. Results Fifteen minutes of low frequency electric stimulation at 1 Hz and 100 to 350?A effective- ly inhibited amygdale kindling as demonstrated by a significant decrease of afterdischarge duration, and decreased the severity of seizure attack (P

OBJECTIVETo provide evidence for three-level prevention of cholelithiasis by means of observing the effects of some choleretics on bile compositions drained from patients with pigment gallstone.
METHODSTwenty-seven patients suffering from primary pigment gallstones and having received treatment of choledochostomies plus T-tube or endoscopic nasal bile drainage (ENBD) were divided equally into three groups, and administered respectively with Lidanling (the LDL group), ursodesoxycholic acid (the UDA group) and combination of LDL and UDA (the LDL + UDA group) through oral intake (7 patients in each group). Besides, 6 post-operational patients got no treatment with any drug were allocated in the control group. Bile of all the patients was collected before treatment and on the 1, 3, 5, 7 th day after the treatment started to detect levels of total bile acid (TBA), glycocholic acid (GCA), taurocholic acid (TCA), glycocholic cheno-desoxycholic acid (GCDCA), total bilirubin (TBIL), uncombined bilirubin (UCB), concentration of calcium ion (Ca(2+)) as well as the bacterio-genetic and endogenous beta-glucuronidase activity for comparing.
RESULTSLevels of TBA, GCA, TCA and GCDCA got gradually increased in the UDA group and the LDL + UDA group after treatment (P < 0.05), while those in the LDL group remained unchanged, showing an insignificant difference as compared with those in the control group. In the LDL group and the LDL + UDA group, TBIL gradually increased while UCB gradually decreased in the course of treatment (P < 0.05). Moreover, levels of Ca(2+) and endogenous beta-glucuronidase activity got significantly lowered (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONCombined use of LDL and UDA could elevate levels of TBA, GCA, TCA, GCDCA, enhance the excretion of TBIL in patients with pigment gallstone after bile drainage, lower levels of UCB and Ca(2+) and the activity of endogenous beta-glucuronidase in the bile, so as to reduce the possibility of stone formation of bile, and therefore, it could be used to prevent the production of pigment gallstone, especially to prevent post-operative recurrence of stones.

Objective To invesgate the effect of P-glycoprotein(PGP)inhibitor,verapamil,on electrobiological activity and seizure behavior in phenytoin-carbamazepine(PHT-CBZ)resistant rats. Methods The model of medically intractable epilepsy was established by kindling of amygdale. Verapamil was applied to PHT-CBZ resistant rats, followed by the observation on after discharge threshold (ADT),after discharge duration(ADD)and seizure activity. Results Compared with the control group, the ADT was higher in PHT-CBZ resistant rats peritoneally injected with verapamil((238.0?32.2)?A vs (177.0?23.3)?A,P

To clone mouse phage antibodies against H-Y antigen from a phage antibody library, three cycles of affinity enrichment of the mouse phage antibody library with male spleen cells and two cycles of nonspecific absorption with female spleen cells were performed. The presence of mouse Fab on the phage surface was determined by ELISA and sequence analysis. 9 of 15 strains can bind to male spleen cells with the specific activity. Recombination rate of the phage antibody library clones is 60%. Sequence analysis of the PCR products of plasmid DNA of E5 clones show VH and Vkappa had common characteristics shared by other known variable region of antibodies. The mouse phage Fab antibody could be used for identifying H-Y antigen, and for the development of sex determination of early embryos in mammals.

Long-term potentiation (LTP) is thought as a generative mechanism underlying learning and memory via storing information in central nervous system. Electro-neurophysiological assay for LTP is generally used in screening the drugs that can facilitate learning and memory. By using in vivo LTP technique, isolichenin was found to facilitate LTP induction by a tetanic stimulation (20 pulses/100 Hz) in dentate gyrus. This tetanic stimulation by itself, however, cannot induce LTP. Previous study showed the reagent being able to facilitate LTP-induction, like methanol extract of saffron (MES), usually can antagonize the inhibiting effect of 30% ethanol on LTP induction (30 pulses/60 Hz). Isolichenin may also fall into such kind of drugs. Interestingly, comparatively study showed that isolichenin failed to antagonize the inhibiting effect of 30% ethanol on LTP induction (30 pulses/60 Hz). This result indicates a different unknown mechanism existing in the effect of isolichenin on LTP or memory formation.

Chinese Journal of Epidemiology 2007;28(12):1179-1182
OBJECTIVETo assess the association between air temperature and mortality in Minhang district, Shanghai.
METHODSGeneralized additive model (GAM) to analyze time series was used. After controlling for medium-term and long-term trends, date in the week, situation of air pollution etc., this study estimated the association in virtue of quadratic curve and differential coefficient principle.
RESULTSThe study was able to estimate an optimum temperature range (11.67 degrees C-20.71degrees C) by relative risk and 95% confidence interval of deaths with air temperature variation. The mortality in Minhang district, Shanghai increased along with the fluctuation of temperature deviating from this range.
CONCLUSIONThe findings from our study indicated that the current air temperature had an acute effect on mortality in Minhang district, Shanghai.

National Journal of Andrology 2008;14(11):1007-1010
OBJECTIVETo analyze and compare the pregnancy rates of intrauterine insemination (IUI) achieved by 3 optimized methods of separating high-quality sperm.
METHODSThe data from 452 infertile couples who underwent 671 IUI cycles in our reproductive medicine center were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into three groups: 5% HSA Earle's swim-up, SpermRinse swim-up and SupraSperm density gradient centrifugation according to different methods for separating high-quality sperm, and the clinical pregnancy rates were compared.
RESULTSIn the 5% HSA Earle's swim-up group, 21 pregnancies were achieved in 221 cycles (9.5%) and in the SpermRinse swim-up group, 34 in 215 cycles (15.8%), with a significantly higher rate in the latter than in the former (P < 0.05). In the SupraSperm density gradient centrifugation group, there were 34 pregnancies in 235 cycles (14.5%), with no statistically significant difference from the other two groups (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe SpermRinse swim-up method can improve the clinical pregnancy rate and is suitable for various types of sterile patients. SupraSperm density gradient centrifugation, as an effective method available for separating high-quality sperm, is particularly suitable for those with lots of inflammatory cells and dead and abnormal sperm in the semen.
