1.Heparanase and atherosclerosis
International Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2013;21(8):634-637
Heparanase (HPA) is a β-D-endoglycosidase of the only degradation of heparan sulfate proteoglycans in extracellular matrix in mammals. The related studies in recent years have suggested that HPA is closely associated with the formation and development of atherosclerotic plaques, and may be associated with the conversion from stable to unstable plaques. This article reviews the related studies of HPA in atherosclerosis progression, such as promoting plaque inflammatory response, synergy with proteolytic enzymes, and involving in hypercoagulable states, etc.

Objective: To study the anti-inflammatory, analgesic and immunosuppressive action of Niuhuang Qianjin San (NQS). Methods: The anti-inflammatory action of NQS was studied by the methods of rat paw swelling and mouse ear swelling and the analgesic action by mouse body torsion method and K + subcutaneous penetration method in rats.Immunosuppressive effect was evaluated by peripheral T lymphocyte percentage, splenic lymphocyte transformation ratio, phagocytic function of intraperitoneal magocytes, the activity of delayed hypersensitivity, serum hemolysin level and the function of antibody-yielding cells in mice. Results: NQS could obviously alleviate inflammation, increase codeine's analgesic action and suppress immunity. The difference were significant (P

AIM: To investigate the difference of cognitive impairment and depression between age-related macular degeneration ( AMD ) group and the control group patients. ·METHODS: A prospective case-control study was performed from November 2014 to August 2016 in the hospital for AMD patients and sex-matched control group. The Mini-Mental State Examination ( MMSE) and the Geriatric Depression Scale ( GDS ) score of each patient were collected for statistical analyzing. ·RESULTS: There were total 84 cases ( 168 eyes ) included in the study. The difference of visual acuity between the two group was statistically significant ( F=8. 953, P=0. 004) by baseline data analyzing. There were no significant differences in MMSE scores between the two groups according to educational status ( P>0. 05 ) , while the prevalence of cognitive impairment in each group was statistically significant (x2 =4. 14, P=0. 042). The difference of GDS scores, prevalence of total and mild depression between two groups were both statistically significant (F=5. 852, P=0. 018; x2=6. 372, P=0. 012; x2 = 5. 674, P = 0. 017 ). However, there was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of moderate to severe depression (x2=0. 672, P=0. 412). ·CONCLUSION: AMD patients have a higher prevalence of depression. Although MMSE score differences were not statistically significant in subgroup analysis by educational levels, AMD patients are more likely to have cognitive impairment overall.

Journal of Leukemia & Lymphoma 2015;24(7):415-419
In recent years, studies committed to the myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) pathogenesis suggest that potential somatic genetic alterations, and epigenetic events might contribute to MPN development, influence the MPN disease phenotype, progression, and promote transformation. The most relevant mutations identified so far can be broadly classified into two main groups.Mutations associated with dysregulated JAK-STATsignal transduction pathway, including mutations in JAK2,CALR,MPL,CBL,LNK,SOCS.Mutations in several epigenetic modifiers, including mutations in TET2,ASXL1,IDH1/2,DNMT3A,EZH2 and so on.In this paper, the abnormal clones and clonal evolution of MPN were reviewed.

This study was aimed to compare different preparation methods of Wei-Chang Fu-Yuan (WCFY) De-coction, which is a self-made traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) decoction of our hospital, through the investiga-tion of difference in recovery time of gastrointestinal function after gynecological abdominal surgery. A total of 120 cases after gynecological abdominal surgery in our hospital between 2011 and 2012 were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group, with 60 cases in each group. The hospital self-made WCFY Decoction was given to patients 8 hours after surgery in the treatment group and control group. Decoctions given to two groups were prepared with different methods. Decoction given to the treatment group was by the decoction ma-chine of multiple decoctions preparation. Decoction given to the control group was prepared as the traditional sin-gle dose decoction. The first anus flatus time was observed in both groups. The results showed that the flatus time of treatment group was 16 h and that of the control group was 13 h. The flatus time of patients from two groups was in skewed distribution, so the distance between the median and quartile was used to describe. The non-para-metric tests (Kolmogorov-Smirnov method) were used in the comparison of flatus time of two groups. There was statistical significance between two groups (P < 0.05). It was concluded that different preparation methods affect the clinical efficacy of WCFY Decoction. Compared with the traditional single dose decoction, the fist flatus time was postponed 3 hours by the decoction machine of multiple decoctions preparation. Therefore, with the widely using of decoction machine of multiple decoctions preparation today, the function of decoction machine should be improved and the program should be perfected in order to increase the clinical efficacy of this preparation method.

Dioscin, a typical saponin, is widely present in the family of Dioscoreaceae, Liliaceae, Caryophyllaceae and Rosaceae, especially in Dioscoreaceae, including Discorea nipponica Makino, Dioscorea zingiberensis C. H. Wright and Dioscorea panthaica Prain et Burkill. Traditional Chinese medicine reported that dioscin plays a role in expectorant, relaxing the muscles and stimulating the blood circulation, aiding digestion and diuresis. With the development of science and technology in recent years, some new extraction and separation techniques and methods have been applied to the study of dioscin, and more and more pharmacological effects were found. Modern pharmacology studies have confirmed that dioscin had some activities on desensitization, anti-inflammatory, lipid-lowering, anti-tumor, hepatoprotection and anti-viral. After oral administration, dioscin is metabolized to diosgenin, which is the true active ingredient and is an important raw material to synthesize steroid hormone drugs. Therefore, the studies on dioscin are valueable and promising. In this review, we make a summary on the researches of dioscin including the extraction technology, separation and prepara- tion, chemical synthesis, drug metabolism, determination and pharmacological researches.
