1.DEVELOPMENT OF Le FORT II AND I COMBINED OSTEOTOMY FOR CORRECTION OF MIDFACIAL DEFORMITY : THE RATIONALE AND TECHNIQUE.

Many authors reported the etiology of hypoplasia of the nasomaxillary complex as trauma, infection, underdevelopment. To correct these deformities, Le Fort II Osteotomy and its modification has been popularly applied. This method enabled total advancement of nasomaxillary complexes and acquirememt of midfacial esthetics. But it has some limitations such as various occlusal deviation or lateral shifting of nasomaxillary complex in case of nasomaxillary retrusion. We grouped these patients as follows : 1. Nasomaxillary retrusion without shifting of nasomaxillary complex (1) Anteroposterior deviation of occlusal plane (2) Lateral deviation of occlusal plane(including canting) (3) Supero-inferior deviation of occlusal plane (4) Combined disturbance of occlusal plane without shifting of nasamaxillary complex 2. Lateral shifting of nasomaxillary complex with or without deviation of occlusal plane We performed Le Fort II and I combined osteotomy on eleven cases of midfacial deformity from June 1994 to July 1997 and in most of the cases, followed up maximum 36 months and could acquire positional stability and improvement of facial eathetics.

2.Limitations of Obtaining Medical Information about Age-Related Macular Degeneration from Artificial Intelligence Chatbots

Purpose:
This study aims to evaluate the quality of and trends in artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot responses to questions related to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and to analyze the frequency of incorrect key information.
Methods:
Three chatbots, ChatGPT 3.5, ChatGPT 4.0, and Gemini, were used in this study. Nine questions were formulated covering general information about: 1) AMD, 2) AMD treatment options, 3) effects and side effects of intraocular injections. Each question was queried three times with each of the three chatbots using two different accounts. Responses to items 1–3 were rated as poor/acceptable/good, and the frequency of incorrect key information was noted.
Results:
Overall, the majority of the queries received acceptable or good responses. Poor-quality responses were noted in 16.7% of ChatGPT 3.5 responses. Incorrect key information was present in 6.5% of all responses.
Conclusions
While AI chatbots generally provided acceptable responses to questions regarding AMD, some responses contained incorrect key information, suggesting the need for caution when accessing medical information through AI chatbots.
3.Production and Gene Cloning of Monoclonal Antibodies Directed Against S Antigen of Hepatitis B virus.

We produced two murine monoclonal antibodies designated S2E1 and S2C11, which recognize S antigen of hepatitis B virus (HBsAg). S2E1 could bind to denatured form of recombinant HBsAg as well as native form of HBsAg, but S2C11 could bind only to native form of HBsAg. Both antibodies reacted with HBsAg in the hepatocyte of patient infected with hepatitis B virus. Analyses of the nucleotide sequences encoding the variable regions of these antibodies revealed that S2E1 and S2C11 utilize variable gene segment which belong to V4/5 gene family and utilize the J5 and Jk4 gene segments, respectively. In addition, the heavy chain of S2E1 express a member of V14 gene family and a member of DSP2.9 and Jh3 gene families. S2C11 is related to the V1 gene family and expresses DFL16.1 gene regions in conjunction with the Jh3 gene segment.

5.Inspection and Evaluation of Blood Cold Chain

Background:
Due to the importance of the cold chain related to vaccine transportation, it is necessary to establish a blood cold chain operation strategy by checking the status of blood transportation from blood donation to transfusion.
Methods:
The blood transportation system and blood storage facilities were checked by inspecting the Korean Red Cross (KRC) Blood Centers and its affiliated supplier and Hanmaeum Blood Center. The status of the cold chain was evaluated through an interview with the quality control manager or blood supply team leader. For the hospital, the status was investigated from the perspective of the 30-min rule. A questionnaire survey was conducted for medical technicians and nurses working at the hospital.
Results:
Data on temperature during transport of blood components were computerized, and all standards were met. A nationwide network that could supply blood from the blood supply center to the hospitals within 2 hours was established. The frequency of temperature monitoring in the blood transport box and constant temperature check in the transport box during long-distance transport were evaluated.
Conclusion
This study confirmed that blood storage and transportation in Korea complied with the cold chain standards of high-income countries or higher. The evaluation of the cold chain is a constantly evolving process requiring continuous attention. When standards for storage and transportation of blood products are established, strict regulations and examinations will be required.
6.Analysis on the Affective Factors and Preventive Measures of Alcohol-involved Accident in the Construction Industry.

PURPOSE: This study was to analyze the current preventive measures on alcohol- involved accident and the factors that affect such preventive measures in the construction industry. METHOD: The survey was administered to examine how the preventive measures on alcohol-involved accident were executed using the data of '2005 Occupational Safety and Health Survey' conducted in 2005 by the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute. For this study, we analyzed 944 work places in the construction industry. RESULT: The preventive measures on alcohol- involved accident were being executed in 62.1% of construction companies. As for the number of actual preventive measures on alcohol-involved accident, work places in Jeolla-do executed 2.63 times more frequently than those in Chungcheong-do, and work places with the Occupational Safety and Health Conference executed 2.22 times more frequently than those without such a measure. CONCLUSION: Joining the Occupational Safety and Health Conference was to be one of the most influential ways of preventive measures on alcohol-involved accident in the construction industry. Accordingly, if workers and employers look for active measures and administer them through the Occupational Safety and Health Conference, it will reduce alcohol-involved accident in the construction industry and contribute to the better preventive measures on alcohol-involved accident in the construction and other industries.

8.A Statistical Analysis on Forensic Odontological Examination at the NFS from 2007 to 2010.

Analysis of the cases registered for the Forensic Odontology Lab of the National Forensic Service (NFS) from April 6th, 2007 to December 2010 was performed to observe the trend and pattern of the cases, in order to propose measures for improvement in future cases both in quantity as well as quality. High rate of cases were observed from the capital area, especially in ground and mountains during warmer season from June to October. Most of the cases were of human remains requested and examined for the estimation of age, sex, stature and identification. However, some of the requested criteria were applied forensic methods such as postmortem interval, cause of death, and facial reconstruction which could not be conducted. To better fulfill the needs of the society, reform of the current registration-examination system by introducing a multi-disciplinary team for processing the scene, education of the law enforcement personnel, research and acquiring funds for the relevant areas, developing antemortem dental record database are recommended for improvement in quantity and quality of the information produced by odontology lab.

9.Prevalence of vanA Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci and Epidemiologic Survey of Chicken Farms Located in Seoul and Kyunggi Province.

BACKGROUND: Avoparcin has been banned in Korea since 8 years ago, but vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) has not been proven to be eradicated from the domestic livestock. This study was purposed to investigate the prevalence of VRE and perform an epidemiologic survey in chicken farms located in Seoul and Kyunggi Province. METHODS: Feces were collected freshly from chickens and workers and their families in three free-range chicken farms and three cage-raising chicken farms. All swabs were inoculated on enterococcosel agar containing 6 microgram/mL of vancomycin. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of teicoplanin and vancomycin were determined using the agar dilution method. Vancomycin resistance were genotyped with multiplex PCR using primers specific for vanA, vanB, and vanC1. Epidemiolgic survey was carried out using a uniform questionnaire to obtain information about the number and variety of livestock, feeding protocols, physical farming conditions, maintenance protocols, hygiene, and employment conditions. RESULTS: vanA Enterococcus facium was isolated from 37 (2.9%) of 1280 chickens. There were no VRE carriers found among the workers and their families. The prevalence of VRE among cage-raising chickens was 4.8% compared to 0.6% for free-range chickens. The difference between the two groups was highly significant (P<0.001). CONCLUSION: There still was a significant rate of VRE colonization in chicken livestock in Seoul and Kyunggi Province. Physical farming conditions of cage-raising chicken farms seemed to be associated with a high VRE colonization rate.
