OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Penqiangyan Granule (PG) on the immunity of patients with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease (CPID) of blood stasis and Shen-deficiency syndrome (BSSDS) type.

METHODSSixty patients were randomly assigned to two groups: the treatment group treated with PG and the control group with Penyanjing Granule, 30 cases in each group. The treatment course was 4 weeks for both groups. The clinical efficacy, plasma levels of CD4 and CD8, and the serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-2 (IL-2) were measured before and after treatment.

RESULTSAfter treatment, the total effective rate in the treatment group and the control group was 96.7% and 63.3% respectively with significant difference between groups (P < 0.05); in the treatment group the plasma CD4, CD4/CD8 and serum IL-2 increased obviously, while the plasma CD8 and serum TNF-alpha decreased markedly (P < 0.05), all were significantly different with those in the control group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONPG can improve the immune function and alleviate inflammation in CPID patients of BSSDS type.

Objective To investigate the correlation between the polymorphism of XRCC2 gene,a DNA double-strand break repair(DDSBR)gene,and the susceptibility to lung cancer in population of North China.Methods By PCR-based restriction fragment length polymorphism(RLFP)technique(PCR-RLFP),a case-control study was performed among 300 patients with lung carcinoma and 300 healthy controls to detect XRCC2(C41657T)polymorphism.Results There was no significant difference in XRCC2(C41657T)allele frequencies between lung cancer patients and healthy controls(P=0.16).The C/C,C/T and T/T genotype frequencies were 72.7%,24.0% and 3.3% in lung cancer patients,and 76.3%,22.0% and 1.7% in healthy controls,respectively.There was no significant difference in C/C and C/T genotype frequencies between cancer patients and healthy controls(?2=0.48,P=0.48).However,the C/T genotype frequency in non-smoke group was significantly higher in lung cancer patients than in healthy controls(?2=6.67,P=0.01).The risk for lung cancer in non-smokers was 2.11 times higher in C/T genotype carriers than that in C/C genotype carriers.There was no significant difference in C/C and C/T genotype frequency between lung cancer patients and healthy controls in the smoke group(P=0.16).Conclusion Overall,there was no significant correlation between genetic polymorphism of XRCC2(C41657T)and the susceptibility to lung cancer.But the C/T genotype might increase the risk of suffering from lung cancer in no-smoking populations of Northern China.

OBJECTIVE:To explore ways to resolve the quality problems of Chinese herbal slice so as to provide reference for producers,processors and users.METHODS:The records of check and accept prepared slice into storeroom in our hospital during 2008 were summed up and sorted out.The number of total batches,the number and proportion of unqualified batches were calculated to analyze the causes of unqualified slice after checking.RESULTS:In 2008 there were 4 519 batches of herbal slice while 94 batches were unqualified and accounted for 2.1% in total.53 batches were refused because of their quality problem,accounting for 56.4% of unqualified batches.CONCLUSION:It is urgent to improve the quality of prepared slice and standardize the processing of herbal slice.

AIM: To explore the effects of mindfulness- based stress reduction ( MBSR ) on anxiety, compliance and visual function in primary open angle glaucoma( POAG) patients. ·METHODS:Totally 64 patients, who were treated with topical medication and were diagnosed with POAG in the department of ophthalmology at Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, were randomly divided into the intervention group ( n=32 ) and the control group ( n=32 ) . Both groups received conventional mental health education while the intervention group was complemented with MBSR intervention. The patient's anxiety status, compliance rates and MD before and after the intervention were evaluated. ·RESULTS:After the MBSR intervention, the scores of HAMA of the intervention group were significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0. 01). The compliance of patients in intervention group was higher than that of the control group (P<0. 01). ·CONCLUSION:The MBSR intervention can effectively relieve the anxiety of patients and improve the compliance in primary open angle glaucoma patients. It can be promoted and put into clinical application.

Objective To study the effect of camphor oil in killing Demodex in vitro and to further analyze the killing mechanism.Methods The mites were collected with adhesive cellophane tape and randomly divided into six groups.The killing effect of camphor oil was investigated with different concentrations against Demodex in vitro.The reaction progress was pictured using Motic Images software.Results Camphor oil had better killing effect on Demodex folliculorum than on D.brevis in vitro.The death rate increased with the drug concentration and time.The most suitable and effective concentration of killing both Demodex folliculorum and D.brevis in vitro was 12.5%.After the drug was given,the mites contracted and twisted,and then relaxed and died.Conclusion Camphor oil has strong killing effect on Demodex in vitro.The main mechanism of camphor oil may be related to direct contact and neuromuscular toxicity.

Objective To study the allele and genotype distribution of CD14 gene promoter region-159C/T,-260C/T polymorphisms in Chinese patients with Henoch-Schonlein purpura(HSP),and to discuss the association between CD14 gene promoter region polymorphisms and HSP.Methods Under the case-control study,CD14-159C/T and CD14-260C/T site polymorphisms in 144 children with HSP and 180 healthy controls were analyzed with polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP),and the relationship between CD14-159C/T and CD14-260C/T site polymorphisms and the risk of HSP were analyzed.SPSS 13.0 software was used to analyze the data.Results The distribution of CD14 gene-159C/T polymorphism was significantly different between gastro-intestinal(GI)involvement group,renal involvement group and healthy control group(P=0.041,0.010,respectively);but the CD14 gene-260C/T polymorphism was significantly different between simple lesion group,renal involvement group and healthy control group(P=0.003,0.037,respectively)and C and T allele were significantly different between simple lesion group,joint damage group,GI involvement group,renal involvement group,healthy control group(P=0.017,0.035,0.024,0.007)and the relative risk for different types of HSP in T allele carriers was higher than that in C allele carriers(simple lesion:OR=2.097,95%CI 1.131-3.823;joint:OR=1.603,95%CI 1.031-2.493;GI:OR=1.602,95%CI 1.062-2.415;renal:OR=1.843,95%CI 1.175-2.889;respectively).Conclusions CD14 gene promoter region polymorphism is associated with HSP and T alele of CD14-260C/T may be a risk factor for HSP.

Background Cataract phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is a primary treatment for cataract.However,tear film stability and ocular surface structure are affected after surgery,especially some cataract patients with diabetes.Researches determined that tear film dysfunction is an important causative factor of dry eye.Objective This study was to investigate the change of tear film after phacoemulsification in cataract patient with diabetes.Methods A non-randomized cases-controlled study was designed.Thirty-six cataract patients with diabetes (54 eyes)and matched 32 patients (40 eyes)with age-related cataract were included in this study in Tianjin First Center Hospital from October,2010 to May,2011.Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation was performed on the all patients with the same topical eyedrops in both groups.Dry eye-related symptom was surveyed and scored by questionnaire,and tear film break-up time (BUT),Schirmer Ⅰ test(S Ⅰ t)and corneal fluorescein(FL) were examined 3 days before operation and 1 day,1 week,1month,3 months after operation.Written informed consent was obtained from each patient before entering this trial.Results The percentage with preoperative symptoms of dry eye was 36.2％ and postoperative dry eye symptoms accounted for 75.8％.Significant differences were seen in dry eye symptom score,FL score,BUT value and S Ⅰ t value between the diabetic cataract group and only cataract group as well as among 4 time points(dry eye symptom score:Fgroup =139.347,P =0.000 ; Ftime =342.741,P =0.000 ; FL score: Fgroup =14.073,P =0.000 ; Ftime =332.697,P =0.000 ; BUT value: Fgroup =28.198,P =0.000 ; Ftime =868.364,P =0.000 ; S Ⅰ t value: Fgroup =2.848,P =0.095 ; Ftime =564.017,P=0.000).FL scores of 2 groups were significantly higher in postoperation than those in preoperation (P＜0.05),and those of diabetic cataract group were significantly higher than only cataract group(P＜0.05),but no significant difference was found between postoperation 3 months and preoperation (P＞0.05).BUT was shorter in postoperation than that in preoperation in the diabetic cataract group(P＜0.05).S Ⅰ t values in postoperative 1 day and 1 week were significantly lower than in preoperation in both groups(P＜0.05).However,S Ⅰ t values returned to normal from 1 month through 3 months in both groups(P＞0.05).Conclusions Tear film dysfunction occurs after operationin cataract patient with type 2 diabetes.It is thought that cataract patient with diabetes is susceptible population of dry eye.Dry eye appears more early and severer in diabetes patients after phacoemulsification combined with IOL implantation.

Objective To explore the effects of the neonatal handling and enriched environmental stimulation on brain damage in neonatal rats with hypoglycemia.Methods Thirty-six neonatal rats were randomly divided into the normal group,hypoglycemia intervention group and the hypoglycemia non-intervention group.Those rats in hypoglycemia intervention and hypoglycemia non-intervention groups were weaned for 12 h,then the blood sugar of both groups were monitored.After neonatal rat models with hyperglycemia were prepared,the rats in hypoglycemia intervention group received the neonatal handling for 14 d and then were kept in an enriched stimulation environment for another 14 d.Rats in normal group and hypoglycemia non-intervention group were fed in the routine way.Neonatal handling was done when the rats were born for 24 h.The rat was rubbed with the brush from head to tail softly.Rats in the hypoglycemia non-intervention group was not handled.The enriched environment stimulation was used after 15 d when the rats were born.Rats in the hypoglycemia intervention group was put into the enriched environment for 1 h per day until 28 d when the rats were born,and rats in the hypoglycemia non-intervention group was put into the normal environment.Then the body weight was scaled at 0 d,7 d,14 d,21 d and 28 d when the rats were born.Space learning and memory were tested with Morris earter at their third month's age.After that,changes of pathology was observed in their occipital cortex.Results The weight increase,the ability of space learning,memory and the number of survival pyramid neurons of occipital cortex in normal group were better than those in hypoglycemia intervention and hypoglycemia non-intervention group(Pa
