According to improved radiation therapy technology such as IMRT and proton therapy, the accuracy of patient alignment system is more emphasized and IGRT is dominated research field in radiation oncology. We proposed to study the feasibility of cone-beam CT system using simple x-ray imaging systems for image guided proton therapy at National Cancer Center. 180 projection views (2,304x3,200, 14 bit with 127 micrometer pixel pitch) for the geometrical calibration phantom and humanoid phantoms (skull, abdomen) were acquired with 2degrees step angle using x-ray imaging system of proton therapy gantry room (360degrees for 1 rotation). The geometrical calibration was performed for misalignments between the x-ray source and the flat-panel detector, such as distances and slanted angle using available algorithm. With the geometrically calibrated projection view, Feldkamp cone-beam algorithm using Ram-Lak filter was implemented for CBCT reconstruction images for skull and abdomen phantom. The distance from x-ray source to the gantry isocenter, the distance from the flat panel to the isocenter were calculated as 1,517.5 mm, 591.12 mm and the rotated angle of flat panel detector around x-ray beam axis was considered as 0.25degrees. It was observed that the blurring artifacts, originated from the rotation of the detector, in the reconstructed toomographs were significantly reduced after the geometrical calibration. The demonstrated CBCT images for the skull and abdomen phantoms are very promising. We performed the geometrical calibration of the large gantry rotation system with simple x-ray imaging devices for CBCT reconstruction. The CBCT system for proton therapy will be used as a main patient alignment system for image guided proton therapy.

Reference ranges of standard experimental parameters are useful for comparisons in toxicology. The aim of this study was to collect data from 13-week repeated toxicity studies in Crl:CD (SD) rats, a strain widely used for toxicity and efficacy research, for establishing domestic reference values. Data on body weight, food consumption; urinalysis, hematological, and blood biochemical parameters; and organ weights were collected from 11 toxicity studies in 220 Crl:CD (SD) rats (110 males and 110 females). The studies had been performed at a single testing facility over the last 5 years and involved animals sourced from a single breeder. The findings were collated as means, standard deviations, percentages, and ranges. Urine volume, uterus weight, eosinophil, and basophil counts, and triglyceride, total bilirubin, and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase levels showed standard deviations of 30% or more. These historical control data would help to interpret the effects of test substances in routine toxicity and efficacy studies.

Objectives:
This study aimed to comparatively analyze the demographic characteristics and various other factors influencing those attempting suicide from the younger and older generations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods:
The study included subjects who visited the emergency room of the Gachon University Gil Medical Center in Incheon after attempting to cause self-harm or commit suicide. Of the total of 598 cases, the characteristics of 383 subjects belonging to the younger generation (39 years old or younger) and 215 to the older generation subject (40 years old or older) were retrospectively compared.
Results:
The younger generation subjects who attempted suicide had significantly higher rates of psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder and histories of past suicide attempts compared to the older generation. Those attempting suicide among the younger generation were less planned in their attempts to commit suicide than the older generation, and the authenticity of their suicide attempts was significantly lower.
Conclusion
The younger generation subjects who attempted suicide were more affected by mental illnesses and more impulsive than those of the older generation, and the authenticity and medical lethality of their suicide attempts were low. An individual-centric intervention strategy for suicide prevention is needed in consideration of these generational characteristics.

Human umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) are used in tissue repair and regeneration; however, the mechanisms involved are not well understood. We investigated the hair growth-promoting effects of hUCB-MSCs treatment to determine whether hUCB-MSCs enhance the promotion of hair growth. Furthermore, we attempted to identify the factors responsible for hair growth. The effects of hUCB-MSCs on hair growth were investigated in vivo, and hUCB-MSCs advanced anagen onset and hair follicle neogeneration. We found that hUCB-MSCs co-culture increased the viability and up-regulated hair induction-related proteins of human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) in vitro. A growth factor antibody array revealed that secretory factors from hUCB-MSCs are related to hair growth. Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were increased in co-culture medium. Finally, we found that IGFBP-1, through the co-localization of an IGF-1 and IGFBP-1, had positive effects on cell viability; VEGF secretion; expression of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), CD133, and β-catenin; and formation of hDPCs 3D spheroids. Taken together, these data suggest that hUCB-MSCs promote hair growth via a paracrine mechanism.

Background:
Exercise capacity is associated with lung function decline in chronicobstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, but a discrepancy between exercisecapacity and airflow limitation exists. This study aimed to explore factors contributingto this discrepancy in COPD patients.
Methods:
Data for this prospective study were obtained from the Korean COPD SubgroupStudy. The exercise capacity and airflow limitation were assessed using the6-minute walk distance (6-MWD; m) and forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1).Participants were divided into four groups: FEV1 >50%+6-MWD >350, FEV1 >50%+6-MWD ≤350, FEV1 ≤50%+6-MWD >350, and FEV1 ≤50%+6-MWD ≤350 and their clinicalcharacteristics were compared.
Results:
A total of 883 patients (male:female, 822:61; mean age, 68.3±7.97 years) wereenrolled. Among 591 patients with FEV1 >50%, 242 were in the 6-MWD ≤350 group, andamong 292 patients with FEV1 ≤50%, 185 were in the 6-MWD >350 group. The multipleregression analyses revealed that male sex (odds ratio [OR], 8.779; 95% confidence interval[CI], 1.539 to 50.087; p=0.014), current smoking status (OR, 0.355; 95% CI, 0.178to 0.709; p=0.003), and hemoglobin levels (OR, 1.332; 95% CI, 1.077 to 1.648; p=0.008)were significantly associated with discrepancies in exercise capacity and airflow limitationin patients with FEV1 >50%. Meanwhile, in patients with FEV1 ≤50%, diffusioncapacity of carbon monoxide (OR, 0.945; 95% CI, 0.912 to 0.979; p=0.002) was significantlyassociated with discrepancies between exercise capacity and airflow limitation.
Conclusion
The exercise capacity of COPD patients may be influenced by factors otherthan airflow limitation, so these aspects should be considered when assessing andtreating patients.

To summarize and analyze the current adjuvant sleep-improving Chinese medicinal health products, this study retrieved the information on health products with the sleep-improving effect published by the Department of Special Food Safety Supervision and Management,State Administration for Market Regulation( SMAR),which was statistically analyzed with Microsoft Excel and TCMISS for the characteristics of formulations. A total of 435 sleep-improving health products were collected, including 344 ones containing Chinese herbal medicines. Among them,413 health products were not suitable for adolescents, neither 194 for pregnant women. Ten Chinese herbal medicines showed a frequency of use ≥40,with 1 095 times( 73. 1%) in use. Through unsupervised hierarchical entropy-based clustering of the above Chinese herbal medicines of health products( degree of support of 45 and confidence coefficient of0. 7),12 new formulas were obtained. The composition of Chinese herbal medicines was consistent with the principles of improving sleep in traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) theories,i. e.,replenishing the heart and spleen, nourishing blood, calming the nerves, nourishing Yin,reducing internal heat, communicating the heart and kidney, replenishing Qi,relieving convulsions, clearing heat, resolving phlegm, regulating the middle warmer, soothing the liver, relieving heat, and calming the heart. According to TCM theories, syndrome differentiation was performed based on the existing sleep-improving health products, followed by data mining and analysis according to the formulation regularity, aiming to provide new ideas for the development of new Chinese medicinal health products. In particular, attention should be attached to the requirements of special populations to provide a basis for follow-up studies, exert the advantages of TCM,and lay a foundation for Chinese medicinal health products to service the public.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2023;48(7):1751-1759
Hepatic lipid deposition is one of the basic manifestations of obesity, and nowadays pharmacological treatment is the most important tool. Punicalagin(PU), a polyphenol derived from pomegranate peel, is a potential anti-obesity substance. In this study, 60 C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into a normal group and a model group. After establishing a model of simple obesity with a high-fat diet for 12 weeks, the successfully established rat models of obesity were then regrouped into a model group, an orlistat group, a PU low-dose group, a PU medium-dose group, and a PU high-dose group. The normal group was kept on routine diet and other groups continued to feed the high-fat diet. The body weight and food intake were measured and recorded weekly. After 8 weeks, the levels of the four lipids in the serum of each group of mice were determined by an automatic biochemical instrument. Oral glucose tole-rance and intraperitoneal insulin sensitivity were tested. Hemoxylin-eosin(HE) staining was applied to observe the hepatic and adipose tissues. The mRNA expression levels of peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor γ(PPARγ) and C/EBPα were determined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(Q-PCR), and the mRNA and protein expression levels of adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK), anterior cingulate cortex(ACC), and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1A(CPT1A) were determined by Western blot. Finally, the body mass, Lee's index, serum total glyceride(TG), serum total cholesterol(TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) levels were significantly higher and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) levels were significantly lower in the model group as compared with the normal group. The fat deposition in the liver was significantly increased. The mRNA expression levels of hepatic PPARγ and C/EBPα and the protein expression level of ACC were increased, while the mRNA and protein expression levels of CPT-1α(CPT1A) and AMPK were decreased. After PU treatment, the above indexes of obese mice were reversed. In conclusion, PU can decrease the body weight of obese mice and control their food intake. It also plays a role in the regulation of lipid metabolism and glycometabolism metabolism, which can significantly improve hepatic fat deposition. Mechanistically, PU may regulate liver lipid deposition in obese mice by down-regulating lipid synthesis and up-regulating lipolysis through activation of the AMPK/ACC pathway.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2023;43(5):509-516
OBJECTIVE:
To observe the effect of acupuncture combined with infantile tuina on intestinal flora and its efficacy in children with tic disorders (TD), and to explore its mechanism.
METHODS:
A total of 15 children with TD were recruited as an observation group and 10 healthy children as a healthy control group. Regulating spleen and stomach acupuncture combined with infantile tuina were received in the observation group. First, acupuncture was applied to Zhongwan (CV 12), Tianshu (ST 25), Guanyuan (CV 4), Hegu (LI 4), Zusanli (ST 36), etc., and then abdominal massage and other tuina techniques were applied, once a day, 6 times a week, 2 weeks as a course of treatment, a total of 2 courses of treatment were required. No intervention was given in the healthy control group. In the observation group, Yale global tic severity scale (YGTSS) score and TCM syndrome score were compared before treatment and after 1 and 2 courses of treatment. 16S rRNA sequencing technology was used to detect the intestinal flora in the healthy control group and before and after treatment in the observation group.
RESULTS:
After 1 and 2 courses of treatment, the scores of YGTSS and TCM syndrome in the observation group were lower than those before treatment (P<0.01, P<0.05). Compared with the healthy control group, the number of operational taxonomic units (OTU) and indexes of Chao1, Sobs, Ace and Shannon were decreased in the observation group before treatment (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with before treatment, the number of OTU and indexes of Chao1, Sobs, Ace and Shannon were increased in the observation group after treatment (P<0.01, P<0.05). Compared with the healthy control group, the relative abundance of Firmicutes in the observation group before treatment was decreased (P<0.001), while the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes, Bacteroides and Erysipelatoclostridium was increased (P<0.001, P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes in the observation group was decreased (P<0.001) after treatment, while the relative abundance of Actinobacteria, Bifidobacterium and Atopobium was increased (P<0.05, P<0.01).
CONCLUSION
Acupuncture combined with infantile tuina based on the principle of regulating spleen and stomach could effectively improve TD symptoms in children, which may be related to regulating the diversity of intestinal flora, increasing beneficial bacteria, maintaining intestinal microecological balance, and playing a role in improving neurological disorders.
