The autoinfective filariform larva of Strongyloides stercoralis causes hyperinfection in immunosuppressed hosts. Here we report on the case of a male patient who was admitted to the emergency room at Gwangju Veterans Hospital with a complaint of dyspnea, and who was receiving corticosteroid therapy for asthma. Many slender larvae of S. stercoralis with a notched tail were detected in Papanicolaou stained sputum. They measured 269 +/- 21.2 micrometer in length and 11 +/- 0.6 micrometer in width. The esophagus extended nearly half of the body length. The larvae were identified putatively as autoinfective third-stage filariform larvae, and their presence was fatal. The autoinfective filariform larva of S. stercoralis has not been previously reported in Korea.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine 1997;21(5):959-966
The myofascial pain syndrome patients usually have characteristic personalities. The purpose of this study is to investigate the psychological characteristics of myofascial pain syndrome patients. We reviewed medical records of fifty-four patients with myofascial pain syndrome for their Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, Visual Analogue Scale, and psychological interview notes. On MMPI profile, the patients scored high in hypochondriasis, hysteria and depression scales, which are the triad of neurosis. According to stress factors and occupations, the psychologic responses were different. We have compared the severity of pain according to different life stress and occupations. VAS scores of the student group were higher statistically in the occupation comparison and of the marital problem group were higher in the life stress comparison. It is suggested that psychologic intervention on myofascial pain syndrome patients should be stressed for the management of pain.

Journal of Korean Clinical Nursing Research 2019;25(3):333-341
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this study was to determine the most appropriate shelf life for sterilized products according to their packaging material.
METHODS:
Samples were prepared to target six nursing units in one general hospital in Seoul. After steam and E.O gas sterilization, sterilized product, samples were supplied to wards. Data collection was conducted for 3 months, after the expiration date of 3 months had passed for samples packaged with crepe paper and nonwoven wraps. For samples packaged with paper-plastic pouches, data collection conducted for 3 months when the expiration date of 9 months had passed. The sterilized products were collected and tested for microbial contamination. Identification of the storage environment was done as samples were collected.
RESULTS:
This study confirmed that the storage environment met international standards such as CDC, except for temperature. For steam sterilized crepe paper packaging samples and steam and E.O gas sterilized for nonwoven packaging samples no contamination in all products was found for 3 months past the expiration date. However, in the E.O gas sterilized paper-plastic pouch packaging sterile samples, Gram-positive bacilli were detected in one sample from a surgical intensive care unit at 45 weeks and another sample from an operating room at 47 weeks. Furthermore, the results did not show any microorganisms for up to 52 weeks in all products.
CONCLUSION
According to the results of this study, sterilized product packaging made with crepe paper and nonwoven wraps is better able an extended shelf life from 3 months to 6 months, reducing unnecessary costs.

Left ventricular (LV) pseudoaneurysms rarely occur, but are detected more often with the development of new diagnostic tools. Since LV pseudoaneurysms are life-threatening, early surgical intervention is recommended. This report describes an 87-year-old woman with heart failure and a large LV pseudoaneurysm which progressed from a small LV pseudoaneurysm after an acute myocardial infarction over a 1-year period.

BACKGROUND: Exercise-stress electrocardiography (ECG) is initially recommended for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. But its value has been questioned in women because of suboptimal diagnostic accuracy. Stress echocardiography had been reported to have comparable test accuracy in women. But the data comparing the diagnostic accuracy of exercise-stress ECG and stress echocardiography directly are few. The aim of the study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of exercise-stress ECG and dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) in Korean women. METHODS: 202 consecutive female patients who presented with chest pain in outpatient clinic, and who underwent treadmill exercise test (TET), DSE and coronary angiography were included for the study. The diagnostic accuracy TET and DSE were calculated by the definition of > 50% or > 75% coronary artery stenosis (CAS). RESULTS: The sensitivity and specificity were higher with DSE (70.4, 94.6%) than TET (53.7, 73.6%) for detection of > 50% CAS. The higher accuracy of DSE was maintained after exclusion of the patients who could not achieve over 85% age predicted heart rate before ischemia induction. DSE also showed greater diagnostic accuracy than TET by > 75% CAS criteria, and in subsets of patient with intermediate pretest probability. CONCLUSION: In the diagnosis of CAS, DSE showed higher accuracy than TET in female patients who presented with chest pain. As well as the test accuracy, adequate stress was more feasible with DSE than TET. These finding suggests DSE may be used as the first-line diagnostic tool in the detection of CAS in women with chest pain.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2007;50(1):149-155
OBJECTIVE: This study is aimed to compare the efficacy of GnRH agonist and intravenous iron therapy in women who need correction of anemia prior to hysterectomy for uterine myoma and adenomyosis. METHODS: We reviewed retrospectively the data of 105 patients with initial hemoglobin level under 10g/dl, who had undergone total abdominal hysterectomy after correction of anemia with GnRH agonist (Group 1) or intravenous iron therapy (Group 2) from January 2004 to April 2006. RESULTS: Initial hemogloblin level was not different between the two groups. After administration, hemoglobin level increased by 3.9+/-2.3 g/dl and 2.6+/-1.7 g/dl, respectively. Therefore, group 1 was superior in anemia correction (p<0.01). On postoperative 1st day, hemoglobin level was 10.3+/-1.6 g/dl and 9.0+/-1.0 g/dl. Correction duration was 7.8+/-4.7weeks (1-18weeks) in group 1 and 4.0+/-4.8weeks (1-30 weeks) in group 2. Shorter duration was needed for correction in group 2 (p<0.01). Surgically removed uterine weight was 391.4+/-195.1 gm and 630.6+/-648.9 gm, respectively. Uterine weight was heavier in Group 2 (p<0.01). CONCLUSION: In comparison of efficacy of GnRH agonist with intravenous iron therapy for the correction of preoperative anemia, corrected hemoglobin level was higher and removed uterine weight was smaller in group 1. But duration of therapy for the correction of anemia was shorter and cost-effectiveness was superior in group 2. Clinicians should consider the patients' condition prior to the selection of drug for preoperative anemia correction.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Family Medicine 2002;23(6):769-777
BACKGROUND: Family doctors are usually point of contact when the elderly think their death is imminent. To properly treat their disease and to provide good care of them and their families, family doctors must know the elderly's perception of a good death and dying. The purpose of this study was to investigate the components of a good death from the elderly. METHODS: We composed 9 questions focusing on good death and dying. A family medicine resident interviewed 35 people ages sixty five or over in Cheonan Welfare Center. The contents were recorded into audiotapes, and then translated and analyzed by quantitative method and coding technique. RESULTS: Among the total 35 respondents, many elders answered that they had thought about death and that the meaning of a death was the end of life, or transition from one world to another in religious belief. In their dying, they hoped that they would be with their offspring or spouse and that they would be in their home or hospital. Old people identified 8 major components of a good death: proper age, death without disease, death before death of their offspring and spouse, dying when whole family get together, death after seeing their family happy, death during sleep, and death without pain. They pointed out that the most meaningful event in their lives were related to their family, occupation and society. CONCLUSION: The elderly identified a good death in view of family as well as personal conditions such as proper age, a death without pain or disease. And most elderly pointed out that meaningful events in their lives were related to their family, occupation and society.
