Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1992;28(4):527-530
Measurement of various portions of the corpus callosum was performed on magnetic resonance(MR) images of 114 subjects with no known or suspected corpus callosal disorders. Midsagittal T1-weighted images used for measurements and mean diameters of various portions in each age and sex group were obtained. Measures of five portions were made : (A) the anterio-posterior length, (B) the diameter of genu portion, (C) the diameter of splenium, (D) the diameter of and mid-body portion, (E) the diameter of narrow portion at the body of corpus callosum. The mean diameter in each gender group for A, B, C, D, and E were 68.8mm, 12.1mm, 12.3mm, 6.9mm, 4.1mm in male and 69.9mm, 12.0mm, 12.1mm, 6.4mm, 4.1mm in female, respectively. The groups of 0-9 years of both genders showed the minimum mean value in each portion.

3.A Case of Imperigo herpetiformis.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1978;16(1):79-83
Impetigo herpetiformis is a rare disease which has not been cleary defined in the European or American literature and is currently not fully appreciated or accepted as a clinical entity. According to Baker & Ryan, Impetigo herpetiformis was reffered to as the Exanthematous type of generalized pustular psoriasis. Impetigo herpetiformis starts suddenly without any preceding lesions of psoriasis as an extensive eruption of pustules on an erythematous base, and may. occur repeatedly during successive pregancies but may occur also without any known cause. A case of Impetigo herpetiformis affecting 30 year old 8 month pregnent woman, who has been suffering from generalized coaIesced pustular eruption with slight itching & buming sensation with fever & chill. 15days before, The Eruption began as an erythematous macule which developed pustules along the margin. There was extension by the development of fresh peripheral pustules and coalescence of these patches and central clearing. Diagnasis was confirmed by histopathologic finding and treated with cortico.teroid and Antibiotics, But improvement was not noted.

6.Studies on Apexcardiogram in Hypertension.

Korean Circulation Journal 1979;9(2):17-25
Fractional time intervals during cardiac cycle were determined by means of the analyses of mechanocardiograms in 100 male patients with hypertension and 100 healthy males, which served as controls. The mechanocardiograms anyalyzed in this study were simultaneously recorded electrocardiograms, phoocardiograms, apexcardiograms and carotid pulse tracings. Of various time intervals during systolic in patients with hypertension, the mechanical systole(both C-D and C-A2 intervals), the isovolumic contraction time, the initial phase of ventricular contraction and the ventricular pressure elevation time were significantly prolonged, whereas the protodiastole was significantly shortened. The prolongation of the mechanical systole was caused primarily by the lengthening of the isovolumic contraction time, which resulted from the prolongation of the components of the latter, namely the initial phase of ventricular contraction and the ventricular pressure elevation time. During diastole, there were significant prolongation of the isovolumic relaxation time and the rapid ventricular filling period, and a significant shortening of the slow ventricular filling period. Among these time intervals, the mechanical systole(C-A2 inlerval), the isovolumic contraction time, the ventricular pressure elevation time and the isovolumic relaxation time showed significant positive correlation with blood pressure. On the other hand, the slow ventricular filling period was significantly negatively correlated with blood pressure. These facts suggested that the changes in these time intervals were related to increased afterload and/or resultant myocardial or hemodynamic alterations.

8.Comparison of Left Ventricular Ejection Times by Various Methods of Measurement with Critical Review of the Methods.
Chung Jick YOON ; Wee Hyun PARK ; Hi Myung PARK
Korean Circulation Journal 1977;7(2):1-6
Left ventficular ejection times were measured by four different methods in 200 healthy males and females from the polygraphic tracings including an apexcardiogram, a phonocardiogram and a carotid pulse tracing. The results obtained by each method were compared and the adequacy of each method was critically reviewed. It was felt that the method measuring the left ventricular ejection time from the carotid pulse tracing was the most reasonable. However, there was a significant correlation between the carotid-derived values and those obtained by other methods, thus, regression equations for the relationship of the latter values to the fromer were obtainable.

9.Echocardiographic Observation in 50 Cases of Pericardial Effusion.

Korean Circulation Journal 1982;12(2):135-143
An analysis of echocardiograms was made in 50 patients with pericardial effusion of various origins, diagnosed by clinical and M-mode echocardiographic examinations. In these cases the estimated volume of pericardial effusion ranged between 40 ml and 999 ml. The width of echo-free space behind the left ventricular wall which reflect the amount of effusion showed a significant positive correlation with the systolic excursion and the diastolic mean velocity of both right and left ventricular epicardial surfaces. The echocardiographic patterns of so-called pseudo-mitral valve prolapse and a notch on the right ventricular epicardial surface during systole were found more frequently in patients with large pericardial effusion. Thus, in pericardial effusion, and echocardiographic examination is useful for the visualization of the abnormal motions of cardiac structures as well as for its diagnosis.

10.Regulation of TNF - alpha Gene Expression in Human Fetal Astrocytes.
Hye Myung RYU ; Joo Young PARK ; Sun Ju CHOI ; Hyun Sook PARK ; Choon Myung KOH
Journal of Bacteriology and Virology 2001;31(3):291-297
Tumor necrosis factor-n (TNF - alpha) involved in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis and contribute to the degeneration of oligodendrocytes as well as neurons. TNF - alpha is produced by miocroglia and astrocytes, which also produce hormones and cytokines that influence its biological activity. Astrocytes, the major glial cells in the CNS, are capable of producing TNF - alpha at both the mRNA and protein levels in response to interleukine-1 (IL-1) or TNF - alpha. Two immunosuppressive cytokines, transforming growth factor - beta (TGF - beta) and IL-10, have been shown to influence glial cell function. TGF - beta can modulate the activity of glial cells by inhibiting interferon-gamma (IFN - gamma) induced expression of class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on astrocytes and microglia. To explore the role of astrocytes in the production of TNF - alpha, astrocytes were pretreated with IL-10 or TGF - beta and then stimulated with IL-1p to determine their effects on TNF - alpha production. The secretion of TNF - alpha by human fetal astrocytes was markedly inhibited by TGF - beta at a low concentration. In contrast IL-10 had no effect on TNF - alpha mRNA level. These results show that TGF - beta may regulate the expression of TNF - alpha in activated human fetal astrocytes.
