Intussusception in Schoenlein-Henoch Vasculitis is of interest because of its rarity & the importance of making what may be a difficult diagnosis. We recently experienced one case of Intussusception in Schoenlein-Henoch Vasculitis, who was a 3 year-old girl treated with mannual reduction following surgical operation & we reviewed some literature.

2.Analysis of 1,000 Cases of Total Knee Arthroplasty: Preliminary Report.

PURPOSE: To analyze the results and complications arising from 1,000 cases of primary total knee arthroplasty (TKRA), as performed by one surgeon. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From February, 1992 to June, 2000, 1,000 cases of primary TKRA were performed by a single surgeon. Among the 1,000 cases, 573 cases followed up for more than one year (average 2.9 years) were evaluated try allocating special surgery (HSS) scores and by determining the range of motion (ROM), and presence of complications retrospectively. RESULTS: There were 872 cases of primary osteoarthritis, 70 cases of rheumatoid arthritis, 32 cases of osteonecrosis, and 26 cases of miscellaneous diseases. The HSS score increased from 57.8 preoperatively to 90.4 postoperatively, ROM increased from 111degrees to 113degrees and flexion contracture decreased from 9degrees to 2degrees, but no statistical differences in results were observed between diseases. Common causes of complications were superficial infection (3.6%), deep infection (2.4%) and deep vein thrombosis (1.8%). Two patients died, one due to myocardial infarct and the other due to an unknown etiology. Revision arthroplasties were performed in 19 cases. CONCLUSION: After primary TKRA, ROM and functional score improved satisfactorily. No statistical differences were apparent between diseases. Infection was the most common complication.

3.Body mass index and prevalence of metabolic syndrome among Korean adults before and after the COVID-19 outbreak: a retrospective longitudinal study

OBJECTIVES:
Studies evaluating weight changes during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have yielded inconsistent results, and most of those studies were based on self-reported anthropometric measures. We investigated changes in body mass index (BMI), professionally measured waist circumference (WC), and metabolic syndrome components from before to during the pandemic in a sample of the adult population in Korea.
METHODS:
This retrospective study included 1,118 male and female (age≥18 years) who underwent health checkups at a university medical center between January 1, 2016 and March 31, 2022. Changes in BMI, lifestyles, and metabolic syndrome components during the pandemic were analyzed using the paired t-test, McNemar test, generalized estimating equations, and repeated-measures analysis of variance.
RESULTS:
Changes in body weight, BMI, and body fat percentage during the pandemic were not clinically significant. However, statistically significant results were found for decreased physical activity (p<0.001) and WC (p<0.001), and exacerbation of all metabolic syndrome components (except serum triglyceride levels). Moreover, the metabolic syndrome prevalence increased significantly from 20.2% to 31.2% during the pandemic (p<0.001). The prevalence of abdominal obesity and high fasting blood glucose levels also significantly increased from 2019 to 2021.
CONCLUSIONS
Metabolic syndrome, its components, and fat distribution worsened significantly after the implementation of social distancing and lockdowns, despite no clinically significant changes in body weight and BMI. Further studies on the post- pandemic period should investigate the long-term impact of social lockdowns on BMI and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome.
4.Molecular Epidemiology of Viral Conjunctivitis in the Southern Region of South Korea, 2012–2016.

Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) and acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC) are common diseases caused by human adenoviruses (HAdV) and enteroviruses, respectively, in South Korea. However, there are limited studies on the molecular epidemiology of viral conjunctivitis in South Korea. The main objective of this study was to characterize the genotypes of adenoviruses and enteroviruses causing viral conjunctivitis in the southwest region of South Korea. We collected conjunctival swabs from 492 patients with suspected cases of viral conjunctivitis from 6 ophthalmic hospitals in Gwangju Metropolitan City, in South Korea, between 2012 and 2016. Of the 492 samples tested, HAdVs and enteroviruses were detected in 249 samples (50.6%) and 19 samples (3.9%), respectively. The genotype analysis detected HAdV-8 in 183 samples (73.5%), HAdV-37 in 14 samples (5.6%), and HAdV-3, and HAdV-4 in 9 samples (3.6%) each. We detected coxsackievirus A24 (CVA24) and coxsackievirus B1 (CVB1) in 8 samples (42.0%) and 4 samples (21.0%), respectively. We also reported for the first time HAdV-56-infected cases of EKC in South Korea. Furthermore, we found three cases of coinfection with HAdV and enterovirus genotypes in our samples. HAdV-8 and CVA24, the main causes of EKC and AHC, respectively, worldwide, were also found to be the predominant genotypes in our study.
