Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor (ECMT) is a rare tumor, exclusively arising in the anterior tongue. Thirty-eight cases have been reported in the English literature. It usually presents as a sessile protrusion and shows round to spindle cells embedded in myxoid to chondroid stroma. Tumor cells are almost always positive for polyclonal glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). We report our experience in the recent treatment of a case of ECMT, the third case in 3 years. The mass in the anterior tongue revealed characteristic morphologic features of ECMT and the expression of polyclonal GFAP. Although ECMT should be differentiated from other mesenchymal tumors including myoepithelioma, its clinical, morphological, and immunohistochemical features enable its diagnosis, especially when pathologists are aware of it.

Myoepithelioma is an uncommon benign tumor that most likely occurs in the salivary gland. Extra-salivary myoepithelioma are sporadic and rare, especially the quantities occur in the sinonasal cavity are fewer in related literature reported. In this paper, we present a rare case of benign myoepithelioma that occurred in the nasal cavity, and the related process of pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis are discussed.

8.Malignant Adenomyoepithelioma of the Breast.
Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 2007;73(5):430-433
An adenomyoepithelioma of the breast is an uncommon tumor that is characterized by biphasic lesions, which consist of epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Most adenomyoepitheliomas are benign, and a malignant transformation is rare. It is generally limited to the epithelial component but in rare cases, the myoepithelial component may become malignant and give rise to a malignant myoepithelioma. We encountered a case of a 29-year-old woman who presented with both an epithelial and myoepithelial carcinoma of the breast in an adenomyoepithelioma. The malignancy was evidenced by the presence of pleomorphism, a high mitotic rate and local invasion. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated the expression of cytokeratin in epithelial cells and actin in myoepithelial cells. We report this case of a malignant adenomyoepithelioma of the breast with review of the relevant literature.

myoepithelioma (BME) and malignant myoepithelioma (MME) of the salivary gland are very rare and its biologic behavior has not been clarified fully. Although, cases reports for BME and MME were increased in recent, their diagnostic criteria were not completely established. We describe herein a case of BME of the parotid gland and a case of MME of the palatal minor gland, respectively. Histologically, multinodular growth pattern, infiltration to adjacent tissues, and hyalinized and myxoid matrix were observed in MME, that were different histologic features compared with BME. Strong immunoreactivities for the S-100 protein and vimentin were detected in the tumor cells of BME and MME. In specimen of MME, moderately expressed p53 and strongly expressed p63 were detected. However, in specimen of BME, p53 was negatively and p63 was weakly expressed, respectively. In conclusion, the expression patterns of p53 and p63 as well as histologic aggressiveness might be used to diagnose the MME.]]>

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;28(16):1262-1263
A female patient with a dark red mass in the of preauricular area for over 3 months was hospitalized. Enhanced CT scan and ultrasonography showed that the mass had clear boundaries and was rich in blood supply. The patient was misdiagnosed as preauricular hemangioma, then the mass was removed as a benign tumor and found irrelevant to parot, SMA(+), Vim(+), S-100(+), indicating myoepithelial carcinoma. So a radical excision was performed to get negative incised margin. The patient didn't undergo postoperative chemotherapy but demonstrated no evidence of recurrence over a 12-month follow-up.
