Journal of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine 2001;25(3):519-522
Aspergillosis of the spine has been reported infrequently. It has usually been attributed to hematogenous infection, spread from an adjacent pulmonary infection. Acute paraplegia developed in a 68 year old man with aspergillus infection. Histopathologic findings showed aspergillus hyphae and magnetic resonance imaging study revealed mid thoracic cord compression. Direct extension of aspergillus infection caused an epidural abscess, vertebral destruction, thoracic spinal cord compression, and paraplegia.

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a serious complication of ovulation induction agents used for patients with ovulatory dysfunction. It's pathogenesis is uncertain, although increased capillary permeability with extravasation offluid into the abdominal cavity is most likely suggested. Early features of the syndrome include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, ascites, pleural effusion, and ovarian enlargement. In severe cases, increased viscosity with hemoconcentration hypovolemia, oliguria, coagulopathy, and thromboembolism may appear, and eventually develop to cerebral infarct. We experienced a case of cerebral infarct caused by OHSS with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome after using an ovulation induction agent, and we present this rare case with the review of literature.

Roberts syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by pre- and postnatal growth retardation, symmetrical limb defects and craniofacial anomalies. A report is given on a 5 year old male child showing the following anomalies; bilateral aplasia of distal humerus, radius, ulnar and 5th midphalanx of hand, cleft palate, hypertelorism and craniosynostosis, pronated foot with genu valgus. We report one case of Roberts syndrome with review of literature.

A Case of double pylorus, in 56 year old man, was diagnosed by fiberoptic gastroscopy and upper gastrointestinal series. Two ovoid large openings of pyloric canal divided by smooth thickened septum were observed endoscopically And the relevant literatures on tihe subject were reviewed.

The Journal of the Korean Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology 2006;24(4):309-316
PURPOSE: To analyze the recent citation trend and to find a way to improve impact factor (IF) of the Journal of Korean Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (JKSTRO) by analysis of Korean Medical Citation Index (KoMCI) citation data of JKSTRO and comparison with that of mean citation data of all journals enlisted on KoMCI (KoMCI journals) during 2000-2005. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All citation data of entire journals enlisted on KoMCI and JKSTRO from 2000 to 2005 were obtained from KoMCI. The trend of total and annual number of published articles and reference citations, total citations and self-citations per paper, IF and impact factor excluding self-citations (ZIF) were described and compared on both KoMCI journals and JKSTRO. RESULTS: Annual number of published articles was decreased for 6 years on both KoMCI journals and JKSTRO (32% and 38% reduction rate). The number of Korean journal references per article is 1.6 papers on JKSTRO comparing to 2.0 papers on KoMCI journals. The percentage of Korean references/total references increased from 5.0% in 2000 to 7.7% in 2005 on JKSTRO and from 8.5% in 2000 to 10.1% on KoMCI journals. The number of total citations received/paper on JKSTRO (average 1.333) is smaller than that of KoMCI journals (average 1.694), there was an increased rate of 67% in 2005 comparing to 2000. The percentage of self-citations/total citations (average 72%) on JKSTRO is slightly higher than that of KoMCI journals (average 61%). IF of JKSTRO was gradually improved and 0.144, 0.125, 0.088, 0.107, 0.187, and 0.203 in 2000-2005 respectively. However, ZIF of JKSTRO is steadily decreased from 0.038 in 2000 to 0.013 in 2005 except 0.044 in 2004. CONCLUSION: IF of JKSTRO was slightly improved but had some innate problem of smaller number of citations received. To make JKSTRO as a highly cited journal, the awareness of academic status of JKSTRO and active participation of every member of JKSTRO including encouraging self-citations of papers published recent 2 years and submission of English written papers, and active academic cooperation with related academic societies.

8.Current status of drug-eluting stents.
Sung Hwan KIM ; Myeong Ki HONG
Korean Journal of Medicine 2008;75(4):370-382
The percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been a great advance in the treatment of coronary artery disease since implantation of bare metal stents (BMS) decreased acute recoil and arterial shrinkage caused by balloon angioplasty. However, neointimal hyperplasia leading to in-stent restenosis after BMS implantation has been emerged a new obstacle. Recent introduction of drug-eluting stents (DES) contributes a powerful breakthrough to PCI. Many large well-controlled randomized trials have shown that DES remarkably reduces restenosis and target vessel revascularization in de novo lesions when compared with BMS. Therefore the application of DES have been expanded to the complex lesions such as left main, multi-vessel, bifurcation, in-stent restenosis, or chronic total occlusion. The safety and effectiveness of DES are still under evaluation with ongoing trials. However, some problems such as very late stent thrombosis remained to be solved. In this review article, we summarize the past, present and future of DES with updated result of clinical trials.

9.Improvement of Lingual Dystonia Following Cerebellar Infarction through Botulinum Toxin Injection: a Case Report

Brain & Neurorehabilitation 2019;12(2):e11-
Lingual dystonia is a rare type of dystonia, the main symptom of which varies from intermittent to sustained tongue fixation. Several studies have suggested that the cerebellum may be implicated in dystonia. There are several treatment options available for dystonia, including medication, botulinum toxin injection, and surgical intervention. We chose to inject botulinum toxin into the styloglossus muscle, and the symptoms of the lingual dystonia were improved. We report a case of lingual dystonia following a bilateral cerebellar stroke that responded to treatment with botulinum toxin.

Korean Journal of Aerospace and Environmental Medicine 2023;33(1):32-36
Purpose:
Melioidosis is a zoonosis that can infect humans or animals. The disease is caused by the bacteria Burkholderia pseudomallei, which is found in contaminated soil and water. We investigated the epidemiological aspects of melioidosis cases among oversea travelers in Korea and Japan during 2011 to 2020.
Methods:
Raw data were obtained from the website of melioidosis cases from the Korea Diseases Control and Prevention Agency, and the National Institute of infectiousDiseases in Japan, 2011−2020.
Results:
There were 26 cases of melioidosis cases in Korea and 14 cases in Japan between 2011 and 2020. Cumulative incidence rate per 1,000,000 oversea travelers (OTs) of Korea (0.14) did not substantially differ that of Japan (0.09), respectively. The incidence of melioidosis in males (96.2% of total 26 cases) was much more common than in females (3.8%) in OTs of Korea (P<0.01), while there were significant differences level between males (85.7% of total 14 cases) and females (14.3%) in OTs of Japan (P<0.01). On the other hand, the distribution by adjusted-age groups for melioidosis cases were statistically similar distribution between Korean and Japanese that total cases occurred in the over 40-years old age, clearly showing a more infected of melioidosis (P<0.05).
Conclusion
This study demonstrates that there is a similar pattern of imported melioidosis cases in Korea and Japan. Therefore, to prevent melioidosis infections, greater attention should be paid to individuals who are planning to travel to the presumptive regions of melioidosis.
