A predisposition to occlusive vascular diseases has been reported in patients with psoriasis and it has been suggested that some of these patients have some disorders of lipid metabolism. In this study, serum lipid levels were investigated in psoriatic patients to explore to the knowledge of this relationship. One hundred psoriatic patients and 100 non- psoriatic controls were included in the study. Total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-cholesterol), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-cholesterol), and very low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-cholesterol) levels were measured. In patients with psoriasis, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels were found to be significantly higher than those of controls. No significant differences were found in the other parameters. We concluded that psoriatic patients should be evaluated and followed up for the risk of hyperlipidemia and obstructive vascular diseases.

Brucellosis is a disease involving the lymphoproliferative system, which may lead to changes in the hematological parameters; however, pancytopenia is a rare finding. However, malignant diseases in association with brucellosis are rarely the cause of pancytopenia. Herein, two cases with fever and pancytopenia, diagnosed as simultaneous acute lymphoblastic leukemia and brucellosis are presented. Anti-leukemic therapy and brucellosis treatment were administered simultaneously, and normal blood parameters obtained. The first patient is in complete remission; the other recovered from the brucellosis, but later died due to a leukemic relapse.

It has been reported that patients with essential tremor have a much higher risk of Parkinson’s disease;
moreover, olfactory dysfunction is common in Parkinson’s disease and becomes apparent early in the
disease process. We aimed to investigate the olfactory function of essential tremor patients using the
Short Smell Test Battery of GATA Haydarpaşa (GULTEST), which consists of five odors (banana,
lemon, mint, rose, and chocolate). The participants in the study were 155 male essential tremor patients,
20–36 years of age (mean age: 21.2), and 290 male control subjects, 20–35 years of age (mean age:
21.1). The two groups were similar in terms of age, gender, and smoking history; their mean GULTEST
scores were 3.41 and 3.4, respectively. Our results showed no loss of olfactory function in young
male essential tremor patients.
