In order to evaluate the genotoxic hazard among workers potentially exposed to low level petrochemical substances, the analyses of micronuclei (MN) and sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) in lymphocytes were performed in 46 male workers (as exposed group) and 46 nonexposed subjects (as control group). Mean frequencies of MN and SCEs (respectively, 12.9/1000 cells and 6.5/cell) in exposed group were very significantly higher than those (10.2/1000 cells and 5.4/cell) in control group. And there were also significant differences in mean frequencies of MN and SCEs adjusted for age, employment duration, smoking, and drinking between two groups. Median frequencies of MN and SCEs in exposed group were very significantly higher than those in control group. Frequencies of SCEs were higher in smokers than in non-smoker. Frequencies of MN in smokers, however, were similiar to those of non-smoker. Interaction between exposure and smoking on MN and SCEs induction was not observed. The results suggest that there is genotoxic hazard in high risk group like workers handling carcinogens in petrochemical plants and the analyses of MN and SCEs are useful biomarkers for the exposure to hazard substances even at the level below the exposure limit.

We report a 37 year-old-female patient with papillary thyroid cancer treated by surgery who demonstrated residual thyroid and bilateral breast uptake on a diagnostic I-131 whole body scan. She had an extrathyroidal extension needing I-131 ablative therapy. Her galactorrhea was investigated and treated with low doses of bromocriptine prior to I-131 therapy. Her galactorrhea was due to the decreased secretion of PIF induced by empty sella.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between the symptoms of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), sleep disturbance and depression among middle-aged women. METHODS: The study took a descriptive approach. A self-reported questionnaire was provided to women aged between 45 and 65 living in community area. The data were analyzed via SPSS program (version 25). RESULTS: 47.8% of the respondents showed moderate to severe RLS symptoms and the severity of RLS symptoms was 10.72. Depression score was 13.12 and sleep disturbance score was 4.97. There was a significant correlation between RLS symptoms and sleep disturbance (r=.423, p < .001), and RLS symptoms had a positive impact on sleep disturbance. There was also a significant correlation between RLS symptoms and depression (r=.494, p < .001) and RLS symptoms also had a positive impact on depression. CONCLUSION: Women with RLS symptoms had more severe sleep disturbance, depression and vasomotor syndrome than those without RLS symptoms. If RLS symptoms among middle-aged women is simply diagnosed as a menopausal symptom, this misdiagnosis can lead to sleep disorder and depression. Therefore, further empirical researches should be done to estimate the prevalence of RLS symptoms and to launch a program to detect RLS at the early stage.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between the symptom of restless legs syndrome (RLS), somatic symptom, depression, and activities of daily living (ADL) among the elderly. METHODS: A descriptive approach was taken in this study. Data were collected from May 23 to July 5, 2019 and 140 elderly people replied to the questionnaire. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and χ² test. RESULTS: 48.6% of the respondents had RLS symptom and the severity of RLS symptom was 9.57±11.55. RLS symptom had a positive correlation with depression (r=.538, p<.001), with somatic symptom (r=.528, p<.001), with ADL (r=.308, p<.001), and with IADL (r=.360, p<.001). Depression had the most significant correlation with RLS symptoms. There were significant differences in depression, somatization, ADL, and IADL according to the RLS severity. CONCLUSION The results of this study showed that many elders experienced mild to severe RLS symptom. Also, the elderly with RLS symptom had more severe depression, somatic symptom, ADL, and IADL than those without RLS symptom in this study. Depression, somatic symptom, and ADL could be deteriorated if the RLS symptom is not diagnosed early.

The Stevens-Johnson syndrome is a severe form of erythema multiforme associated with multiple organ involvement that can result in severe mortality. Various etiologic factors have been reported to include drugs, bacteria, virus, etc. We experienced a case of amoxicillin clavulanic acid induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome with the involvement of oral mucosa, skin, and conjunctiva. This patient was treated with steroid and supportive care.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical and electrodiagnostic findings of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow. METHOD: Sixty-two patients with ulnar neuropathy at the elbow were reviewed retrospectively to establish causes, severity and type of neuropathy, symptom, sign, operation name and operative findings. RESULTS: 1) Of total 62 cases, 41 were male and 21 were female and the most often were in their forties and fifties. 2) The main cause of the neuropathy is bone deformity caused by previous fracture or dislocation (43.6%). 3) The symptoms observed were motor weakness (66.1%), sensory change (79%) and muscle atrophy (35.5%). 4) Forty-nine cases showed abnormality in nerve conduction study and needle electromyography study, and 9 cases showed abnormality only in the needle electromyography study. 5) On needle electromyography, sparing of flexor carpi ulnaris was shown in 50 cases (80.6%). 6) Operative treatment was performed in 15 cases. Among them, electrodiagnostic and operative diagnosis coincided in only 12 cases (80%). CONCLUSION: We conclude that above clinical and electrodiagnostic findings are useful for the diagonosis ulnar neuropathy at the elbow with consideration of etiology, localization and for the selection of operative treatment.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The distribut ion of HCV genotypes varies with geographical area, and genot ypes can affect t he nat ur al course of HCV infection, but adequate genot yping data were not accumulat ed in Korea. This study was des igned to det ermine the pattern of distribution of HCV genotypes in Korea and it's clinical implications. METHODS: 100 cons ecut ive anti- HCV( +), RT-PCR(+) cases were recruited. Genotype specific oligonucleotide primers were made according to the sequence variation of NS5 region of HCV genome. Heminested PCR with mixed primersets was per formed, and genotype specific PCR products of different size were verified. Sequencing of cloned PCR products was done in cases with representative genotypes. Clinical profiles of genotype 1b and 2a were compared. RESULTS: Genotyping was done in 78 among 100 cases. Genotype 1b (48/ 78, 57.7%) and 2a (25/ 78, 32.1%) were most prevalent , and 1a (1/ 78, 1.3%) and mixed form (7/ 78, 9.0%) were also found. Milder cases with persistent normal ALT levels were more frequently seen in genotype 2a ( 9/ 25, 36.0%) than in genot ype 1b (3/ 45, 6.7%) (p< 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Genotype 1b and 2a were major ones in anti- HCV( +) Korean adults, and the tendency of milder clinical course of genotype 2a was suggested.

The purpose of this study is to compare the healing aspects of the use of ePTFE membrane alone versus combination treatment of ePTFE membrane and bone grafts on class II furcation defects. Seventeen defects were applied ePTFE membrane alone on mxillary molar buccal class II furcation defects as Group I, seventeen defects were applied ePTFE membrane and bone grafts on maxillary molar buccal class II furcation defects as Group II, twenty-three defects were applied ePTFE membrane alone on mandibular molar buccal class II furcation defects as Group III, twenty defects were applied ePTFE membrane and bone grafts on mandibular molar buccal class II furcation defects as Group IV. Measurements were made to determine clinical attachment level, probing depth, gingival depth, SBI, mobility at baseline, 3, 6, 12 months postoperatively. Additional measurements were made to determine membrane exposure level at surgery, 1, 2, 6 weeks postoperatively. And then healing patterns and postoperative complications were evaluated. The result as follows: There were statistically significant differences in probing depth reduction, clinical attachment gain, mobility reduction at values of 3, 6, 12 months postoperatively compared to values of baseline(p<0.05), whereas no significant differences in SBI and gingival recession. In group II, membrane exposure level was increased at 1, 2, 6 weeks postoperatively compared to value of baseline(p<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in changes of probing depth at 3, 6, 12 months postoperatively in combination groups of ePTFE membrane and bone graft compared to groups of ePTFE membrane alone(p<0.05). The vast majority of cases fall into typical healing and delayed healing response when membranes were removed in all groups. Pain and swelling were common postoperative complications. In conclusion, this study was showed more effective healing aspects in combination treatment of ePTFE membrane and bone graft than ePTFE membrane alone and on mandibular molar class II furcation defects than maxillary molar.
