2.Hypersensitivity pneumonitis induced by oyster mushroom spores.
Journal of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology 1998;18(1):84-89
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis due to the inhalation of oyster mushroom(pleurotos ostreatus) was demonstrated in a 44-year-old man who had cultiviated for 4 years. He had suffered from dyspnea, cough, myalgia and fever in the evening after working at first. After them he has experienced dyspnea aggravated. He showed not only positive reaction to the intradermal test but also to the bronchial challenge test such as 6 hr after inhalation falling down of FVC, FEV p, and DLCO in pulmonary function test and leukocytosis with fever upto 38.2C with antigenic extract of oyster mushroom spore. The size of spore was approximately 3.5 when measured by transmission electron microscopy.

6.Correlation between Apoptosis and Proliferative Activity in Squamous Cell Neoplasia of Uterine Cervix.
Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 1999;42(1):98-103
OBJECTIVE: Quantitative analysis of both apoptosis and proliferation should provide important insight into tumor biology. The aim of this study is to clarify the significance of apoptosis in the progression of uterine cervical neoplasia, including cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, and microinvasive and invasive squamous cell carcinoma categories. in relation to cell proliferation. METHODS:: Forty five cases of cervical intraepithelial neopasia. 10 of microinvasive carcinoma, and 10 of invasive squamous cell carcinoma were examined using formalin fixed and paraffin embedded samples. The TdT mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labelling(TUNEL) method for apoptotic cells, and Ki-67 and Topo-II immunojhistochemistry for proliferating activity were performed. RESULTS: Apoptotic and proliferative indices, calculated by counting positive nuclei among 1,000 nuclei of cancer cells, should significant positive correlation with histological malignancy grading in CIN and tumor cell invasion into stroma, and showed also significant positive correlation between them. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that apoptosis in cervical neoplasia may be closely related to tumor cell differentiation and progression.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1973;11(3):179-182
30 year-old female patient with acutely ill appearance was admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital because of high fever, nausea and, vomiting and severe headache 4 days duration. On physical examination, slight stiffness of the neck and Kernig's sign was noted. Skin signs showed rice sized erythematous grouped papulovesicular eruption on the right side of the neck and chin. C.S.F. findings were elevated pressure, increased protein and decreased sugar level of C.S.F. On funduscopic examination, revealed slight papilledema and mild blurring of the disc margin. Skin biopsy was performed on the vesicular lesion and showed marked ballooning degeneration of cell in which an inclusion body was present. She was healed completely after treatment with analgesics and corticosteroids.

8.COMPARISON OF WEAR RESISTANCE AMONG RESIN DENTURE TEETH OPPOSING VARIOUS RESTORATIVE MATERIALS.
Chul Young LEE ; Moon Kyu CHUNG
The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 1999;37(3):313-327
The aim of this study was to compare wear resistance of resin denture teeth opposing various restorative materials. The wear resistance of conventional acrylic resin teeth (Trubyte Biotone) and three high-strength resin teeth(Bioform IPN, Endura, SR-Orthosit-PE) opposing different restorative materials (gold alloys, dental porcelain, composite resin) was compared. Wear tests were conducted with a sliding-induced wear testing apparatus which applied 100,000 strokes to the specimen in an mesio-distal direction under conditions of 100 stroke/min and constant loading of 1Kgf/tooth. Wear resistance of the resin denture teeth was evaluated by the following criteria : 1) wear depth, 2)weight loss, and 3) SEM observation. Results were as follows. 1. When opposed to gold alloys and composite resin, high-strength resin teeth showed superior wear resistance compared to acrylic resin teeth. But, in cases opposing dental porcelain, differences between the wear of the high-strength and acrylic resin teeth were not statistically significant (p<0.05). 2. When comparing wear resistance among high-strength resin teeth, opposing gold alloys, Endura was slightly more resistant and while in cases opposing dental porcelain, SR-Orthosit-PE was showed to be slightly resistant(p<0.05). 3. The wear of high-strength resin teeth was greater by 5 to 7 times when opposing porcelain and 2 to 3 times when opposing composite resin compared to gold alloys(p<0.05). 4. SEM observations of the wear surface showed that wear of resin teeth opposing gold alloys is a fatigue type of wear and wear of resin teeth opposing dental porcelain is fatigue and abrasion type of wear. Trubyte Biotone showed more severe fatigue type of wear than high-strength resin teeth. In conclusion, the use of dental porcelain should seriously be considered as restorative material in cases opposing resin denture teeth and improvement seems to be needed on resin teeth in the areas of wear resistance.

9.Prophylactic Endoscopic Variceal Ligation for Esophageal Varices with High - risk of Hemorrhage.
Korean Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy 1996;16(4):561-567
Prophylactic treatment of varices is an appealing concept because 50% of patients who experience variceal bleeding will die within the first 6 weeks of the first bleeding. However, the majority of trials which have evaluated prophylactic therapy gave failed to demonstrate advantage, We tried prophylactic endoscopic variceal ligation(EVL) in 10 patients, to evaluate the safety and effect of prophylactic EVL for esophageal varices with high-risk of hemorrhage. The eradication rate was 100% without bleeding and mortality, the mean session for eradication of varices 1.9, the number of bands per person 16.9 and the number of bands per session 8.9. Although mild chest pain(5.3%) and chest discomfortness(31.6%) were observed, no serious complication related with EVL resulted from 19 EVL sessions. The patients were followed for a mean of 327.0 days(85-708), during which recurrent esophagea1 varices were found in a case at 260 days from last session, but no bleeding nor death was occured. No late complication of EVL was documented. In conclusion, prophylactic EVL is safe and may be effective for esophageal varices with high-risk of hemorrhage. But, the large controlled-trial should be required.

10.Juvenile Plantar Dermatosis.
Jung Bock LEE ; Byoung Moon CHOI
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1982;20(6):853-857
A characteristic dermatosis of infancy and childhood has recently been reported as many names, called juvenile plsntar dermatoais, recurrent juvenile eezema of hands and feet, and atopic winter feet in children. However, the clinicsl and epidemiological features of the published cases are strikingly the same The etiology of the diseaee remains unclear. The role of atopy appears to be highly controversial. We have observed 11 patients with juvenile plantar dermatosis and sumrnarized the results as followa: 1. The disease was found mainly in female children (3 boys, 8 girls) between 1 and 18 years old. Duration of the disease ranged from 1 month to 10 years. 2. The lesions occured or were exacerbated dunng the winter in 9 of them. 3. The disease affected symmetrically on the pressure areas of the feet, mainly the forefeet and toes, the lateral margins of the soles, and the heels. Five of our patients also showed the lesions on the hands simultaneously. 4. We have found a high incidence of atopy among the patients or close relative. Nine patients had a personal history of atopy and 5 gatients also had a history of atopy in the first degree relatives. 5. The serum IgE value increased in one of 6 patients determined. From the above clinical findinge, it is evident that juvenile plantar dermatosis is a true localized atopic dermatitis but also a primary irritant contact derrnatitis to which atopics are prone but which may occur in susceptible non-atopics.
