3.A STUDY ON THE PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE THREE COMMONLY USED DIE SPACING MATERIALS.
The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 1999;37(5):640-650
As an optimal quality of the restorations, there should be a least amount of seating discrepancy between the casting and abutment teeth. However, high viscosity of the cementing medium and its resulting thickness ay prevent complete seating of the restoration. The use of die spacing material provides adequate internal relief for the cementing medium. The purpose of this study is to compare the thickness of three commonly used die spacing materials. Materials and Methods : Stone plates were fabricated and divided into 12 sections to be painted with die spacers. Tru-Fit, Whip-Mix and Belle de St. Claire die spacer which are commonly used in dental practice were tested in this study. Each die spacers were painted layer by layer according to the manufacturer's recommendation. The average thickness of each die spacers were measured with light microscope(x100) and compared between them. Results and Conclusions: A silver-colored Tru-Fit die spacer has the lowest value of thickness without statistical significance comparing with a gold-colored Tru-Fit die spacer and a gray layer of Whip-Mix die spacer has the highest value of thickness without any statistical significance comparing with Belle de St. Claire die spacer. Three and four layers of Tru-Fit die spacer and two layers of Whip-Mix and Belle de St. Claire die spacers seem to be in the acceptable range of thickness of 25 to 45micrometer for optimal seating of the restorations. The standard experimental design and method should be further evaluated for more consistent and objective results.

4.The Study of the Serum Electrolytes in the Normal Person.
Korean Circulation Journal 1977;7(1):9-13
We studied the serum electrolytes in the 727 normal persons who visited Busan University hosptial, Benedict Hospital and Maryknoll Hospital from 1970 to 1976. The results were as follows: 1. Mean value of the serum Na+ being measured in 729 normal persons was 138.7+/-6.2mEq/L and 140+/-6.5mEq/L in 450 male, while 136.8+/-6.6mEq/L in 279 female. 2. Mean value of serum Cl- being measured in 701 persons was 99.6+/-5.9mEq/L, and 99.7+/-6.0mEq/L in 437 male while 100+/-5.7mEq/L in 264 female. 3. Mean value of serum K+ being measured in 707 normal persons was 4.4+/-0.9mEq/L in 434 male, while 4.2+/-0.8mEq/L in 273 female. 4. Mean value of serum Ca+ being measured in 557 normal persons was 4.5+/-0.6mEq/L and 4.7+/-0.7mEq/l in 355 male, while 4.3+/-0.5mEq/L in 202 female. 5. Mean value of serum phosphorus being measured in 94 normol persons was 4.2+/-0.6mg%, and 4.1+/-1.0mg% in 65 male, while 4.5+/-1.5mg% in 29 female.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1980;15(1):37-42
The authors reviewed 17 patients with radial nerve palsy complicating fracture of humerus who were treated at the Department of Orthopedlc Surgery, St. Mary's Hospital Catholic Medical College, for past 3 years from Jan. 1974 to Dec. 1976, and the following results were obtalned. 1. The ratio of male to female in 17 cases with radial nerve palsy was 4 to 1, and In patients within the first decade the ratio was same (1:1). But those in the 3rd and 4th decade showed high incidence of palsy. 2. Among 113 humerus shaft fractures, 17 cases (15.0%) complicated the radial nerve palsy; among 17 cases the middle shaft fractures were 15, lower 2, none in the upper third. 3. The radial nerve was the most vulnerable to injury at the middle third of the humerus, especially when there was comminution of fracture. 4. The incidence of radial nerve palsy in closed fracture (102 cases) was 13.7% (14 cases), and 27.2% (3cases) in open fracture (11 cases). 5. By early surgical exploration the practlcal cause of radial nerve palsy in 9 cases were found; 2 cases by bruise, 2 by interposition, 2 severance of nerve, one stretching, one impaled, and one unknown. 6. There were no signiflcant correlation between the type of nerve damage and the degree of its recovery, and between duration of paralysis since onset and its prognosis. 7. Of the 17 cases with palsy, complete recoveries were obtained 11 cases, 5 incomplete, and no recovery in one.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2002;32(1):59-62
Osteoma is the most common benign tumor of the cranium, and the frontal sinus is its most frequent location in the cranium. A 39-year-old woman presented with left exophthalmos was found to have orbital and intracranial extension of a giant osteoma involving anterior cranial fossa. The etiology, presenting features, diagnosis and treatment of this tumor are reviewed.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1993;36(7):1034-1038
Pulmonary artery sling is an uncommon and potentially lethal vascular anomaly that can produce airway obstruction. Despite the availibility of a corrective operation, the mortality rate remains very high due to the high incidence of associated obstructive anomalies of the tracheobronchial tree. We experienced a 70-day-old male infant who was admitted to our unit because of sudden dyspnea, cyanosis, coarse expiratory wheezing and inspiratory stridor. At first, he was treated with bronchodilator and steroid under the impression of infantile asthma, but the symptoms went on without interval change. We performed magnetic resonance imaging study followed esophagography and two dimensional echocardiography. Finally he was diagnosed as a vascular sling. We report this with a brief review and related literatures.
