Objective To study the expression of a novel inhibitor of apptosis and survivin in cervical carcinoma and its relationship to the expression of Bcl-2.Methods Using SP immunohistochemical technique, we examined the expression of survivin and Bcl-2 in 59 cervical invasive squamous cell carcinomas. Results Survivin was expressed in 41 of 59 cases(69.5%) of cervical carcinomas. In contrast, no expression of survivin in normal cervical tissues was observed. Overexpression of survivin was related to the tumor grade and clinical stage. Survivin positive cases were strongly associated with Bcl-2 expression(80% versus 35.7%;P<0.005).Conclusion Apoptosis inhibition by survivin abnormal expression, alone or in cooperation with Bcl-2, may participate in the onset and progression of cervical carcinoma. Survivin is a new diagnostic/therapeutic target in cervical cancer.

Objective: To investigate the antimotion sickness effects of ginsenosides combined with dexamethasone in rats. Methods: Fifty SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: normal saline, scopolamine-treated, ginsenosides-treated, dexamethasone-treated and ginsenosides plus dexamethasone-treated groups. There were 10 rats in each group. The rats in each group were fed with corresponding ingredients respectively, and then the rats were exposed to abnormal acceleration for one hour. The motion sickness index, the level of kaolin consumption and the course and time of spontaneous activity were observed. Results: The motion sickness index and the level of kaolin consumption of acceleration-exposed rats in ginsenosides plus dexamethasone-treated group were significantly lower than those in normal saline group. And the course and time of spontaneous activity of acceleration-exposed rats in ginsenosides plus dexamethasone-treated group were significantly higher than those in normal saline group. The level of body weight increment of acceleration-exposed rats in ginsenosides plus dexamethasone-treated group was significantly higher than that in dexamethasone-treated group. Conclusion: Ginsenosides combined with dexamethasone can significantly increase tolerance to acceleration of rats, and the drug combination can decrease side effects of methylprednisolone, such as body weight loss.

Objective To summarize our experience in the prevention and treatment of right accessory hepatic duct and right hepatic duct injury during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods The clinical data of 21 cases with right accessory hepatic duct or right hepatic duct during laparoscopic cholecystectomy were reviewed retrospectively. Result According to anatomy identified by preoperative work-up and selective cholangiography during the operation, 18 cases had the right accessory hepatic duct, eleven of them were confirmed intraoperatively. The accessory hepatic ducts were conserved in 3 cases and clipped without biliary leaks postoperativly in 7 cases; One case had biliary leaks postoperatively with the duct sutured intraoperatively, and recovered well conservative therapy. Accessory hepatic ducts were accidentally injuried in 7 cases, two patients were transferred to open surgery; three cases were confirmed to be injuried and clipped by second laparoscopic exploration because of biliary leaks postoperatively. Three cases had a low confluence of the right and left hepatic duct with the gallbladder duct joining the right bile duct, the ducts were conserved in 2 cases and injuried in one. Postoperatively all these 21 cases were followed up for 2 years, without jaundice or liver dysfunction. Conclusions To prevent injury of right accessory hepatic duct and right hepatic duct. High vigilance and familiarity with the anatomic variants of the biliary tree and intraoperative cholangiography in selective cases are fundmental.

Objective To know the position and shape of implanted electrode array with plain X-ray after cochlear implantation. Methods According to the Cochlear View developed by Xu plain X-ray was taken postoperatively to obtain the best view of electrode array. Results The Medical imaging of plain X- ray taken before switching on or following the concerning of the performance could assist in the detection of electrode arrays in improper position, partial insertion or bending inside the cochlea. It helped audiologists to make decisions to switch off affected electrodes for the optimization of the program, if functioning electrodes were insufficient and recipients failed. Conclusion It is recommended to conduct post-operative X-ray examination routinely for cochlear implant recipients. Audiologists should be able to use medical imaging to identify the position of intra-cochlear electrodes and apply the information to guide the mapping work.
