Authers analysed the electrocardiographic exercise test of 196 cases of normal and 150 cases of various diseases according to the Minnesota Code, Master's criteria and Lepeschkin's criteria and following results were obtained. 1. In normal cases, Lepeschkin's method of analysis of single Master's exercise test revealed less frequent false positive case (7.7%) than those of Master's (12.1%) and Minnesota Code (12.6%). 2. ST-segment changes by the Minnesota Code in the postexercise electrocardiogram were obtained 12.6% of nomal cases, 63.9% of the cases of anginal symptoms, 31.5% of hypertension and 15.4% of diabetes mellitus. 3. Positive exercise test by the Master's criteria in the postexercise electrocardiogram were obtained 12.1% of normal cases, 63.9% of the cases of anginal symptoms, 31.5% of hypertension and 15.4% of diabetes mellitus. 4. Positive exercise test by the Lepeschkin's criteria in the postexercise electorcardiogram were obtained 7.7% of normal cases, 50% of the cases of anginal symptoms, 18.4% of hypertension and 15.4% of diabetes mellitus.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to identify factors that predict job satisfaction in office workers. Participants were recruited from eight industries in B Ku in D city, and the research was carried out from February 10 until October 10, 2014. Job satisfaction was assessed using the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). METHODS: Data was analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients and a stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 18.0. There was a negative correlation between job satisfaction and job stress. RESULTS: Job stress (lack of reward, occupational climate, job demand, job insecurity) and psychological happiness were identified as determinants of job satisfaction, which explained 43.6% of the total variance of job satisfaction. CONCLUSION: The findings provide empirical evidence to help nurses prepare effective interventions related to the mental health promotion of office workers.

PURPOSE: The patient-centered attitude is an effort to understand patients themselves as well as their disease. The doctor-oriented approach has been shifting to one where patients and participate in the deciding of medical service. We performed this study to investigate the patient-centeredness and influencing variables associated with personality traits. METHODS: We recruited 94 medical students before their psychiatric clinical clerkship, and all subjects were assessed by a structured questionnaire including socio-demographic data, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI), Meyers-Briggs type indicator(MBTI), the patient-practitioner Orientation Scale(PPOS), and the Authoritarian Personality scale(AP), The AP and PPOS questionnaires were repeated after the psychiatric clinical clerkship. RESULTS: After the psychiatric clinical clerkship, the AP scores were significantly lower than before, and the PPOS significantly higher than before. The change in the AP scores were related to MBTI, correlated with MMPI subscales, however, inversely correlated with the changes in PPOS after the clinical clerkship. CONCLUSION: The authoritarian personality trait was related to, not only the personality trait including MBTI and MMPI subscales, but also to patient-centeredness in medical students.

Authors evaluated the electrocardiographic criteria of Minnesota Code (III-1, III-2) for the diagnosis of left and right ventricular hypertrophy in 93 cases of healthy peoples, 74 cases of left ventricular hypertrophy and 4 cases of right ventricular hypertrophy and following results were obtained. 1. By left ventricular hypertropy criteria (III-1), there were 5.4% of false positive and 14.9% of false negative cases. 2. By right ventricular hypertrophy criteria III-2), there were 24.7% of false positive and 20.0% of false negative cases. 3. Electrocardiographic diagnosis of ventricular hypertrophy by Minnesota Code (III-1, III-2) were more reliable criteria than many other criteria of ventricular hypertrophy.

PURPOSE: This study aims to demonstrate whether the functionalities between the widely used questionnaire in other countries and the Korean-translated version show similarity. Also, it intends to verify their reliability and validity. METHODS: The original questionnaire was first developed by professor Noe at the University of Minnesota with 29 items named as “mentoring functions” to identify the participants' psychological and career-development functions. Using the Korean-translated version of the original questionnaire, the study was conducted on total 288 Kyung Hee University medical students, ranging from the first-year students to the third-year students on December 2015. In order to investigate if the survey form could be applied to the Korean participants, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted, using varimax rotation. Cronbach α statistics and the figures of standardized regression weights were analyzed respectively to indicate construct, convergent, and discriminant validities. RESULTS: The result of exploratory factor analysis shows there are a total of three functions, including the additional “friendship function” (Eigen value, 1.152; significant level if higher than 1.0) with its high emphasis. The result of confirmatory factor analysis also demonstrates the similarity (p=0.000). As the whole reliability scale of the three functions is significantly high (Cronbach α , 0.971), each reliability scales of the three functions are shown to be high (0.814-0.955) as well. CONCLUSION: The model, with its three functions, proved the significant statistics regarding the reliability and validity. According to this ground, the conclusion is that the adapted questionnaire used in this study could be applied to Korean medical students.

STATEMENTS OF PROBLEM: The fracture of acrylic resin dentures remains an unsolved problem. Therefore, many investigations have been performed and various approaches to strengthening acrylic resin, for example, the reinforcement of heat-cured acrylic resin using glass fibers, have been suggested over the years. Silane is important for bonding between glass fiber and resin. PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of various silane on the strength of PMMA resin and roughness of resin-glass fiber complex after abrasion test. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 3mm glass fiber (Chopped strand, Hankuk fiber Co., Milyang, Korea) was treated with 3 kinds of silane (MPS, EPS, APS) (Sila-ace, Chisso chemical, Tokyo, Japan) and mixed with PMMA resin(Vertex RS, Vertex Dental B.V., Zeist, Netherlands). Transverse strength and Young's modulus was measured using Instron (Instron model 4466, Instron, Massachusetts, USA). After abrasion test (The 858 Mini Bionix II Test System, MTS System Co., Minnesota, USA) surface roughness was evaluated using tester (Form Talysurf plus, Taylor Hopson Ltd., Leicester, England). Examination of scanning electron microscope was also performed RESULTS: Within this study, the following conclusions were drawn. 1. Surface treatment of glass fiber with MPS and APS increased transverse strength of PMMA resin complex, but surface treatment with EPS decreased transverse strength of PMMA resin complex (p<0.05). 2. Silane treated glass fiber increased Young's modulus of PMMA resin complex compared to desized glass fiber (p<0.05). 3. Roughness increased after abrasion test in case of PMMA resin reinforced with desized glass fiber (p<0.05). 4. Roughness change was not observed after abrasion test in case of PMMA resin reinforced with silane treated glass fiber (p>0.05).

Dr Lillehei (1918~1999) pioneered cardiac surgery with his landmark operations using cross-circulation in 1954 and 1955. With his dedications to open heart surgery, he is generally considered to be the father of open heart surgery by many medical historians. Dr Lillehei expanded his contributions to cardiac surgery with training 134 cardiothoracic surgeons at the University of Minnesota Hospital and he trained an additional 20 surgeons at the Cornell Medical Center. Dr Lillehei's trainees came from all over the world and Dr YK Lee (1921~1994) of Seoul National University was among them. He joined the University of Minnesota Hospital in 1957 as a part of the Minnesota project. During his stay for two years, in addition to experimental research, he learned clinical cardiac surgery as part of Dr Lillehei's team. In 1959, after returning to Korea, Dr Lee began his career as a full-time cardiac surgeon with establishing the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Seoul National University Hospital. Yet he encountered many difficult barriers in the process. During that time, Dr Lillehei was willing to share his experience and he provided many valuable resources for cardiac operations. With Dr Lillehei's kind help, the open heart surgery program was gradually and successfully established at Seoul National University Hospital. These two surgical titans from across the Pacific Ocean died in 1994 (Dr Lee) and 1999 (Dr Lillehei). They are gone, yet the proud Korean people have not forgotten them.

BACKGROUND: Trigeminal neuralgia and atypical facial pain are representative disease entities of chronic facial pain. Most patients of these disaeses could be accompanied with psychological, emotional problems as their pain become chronic. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether different types of chronic facial pain lead to alteration in personality disorder or they are associated with particular characteristics of personality disorders using Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory (MMPI). METHODS: 40 patients of trigeminal neuralgia and 21 patients of atypical facial pain who had responded MMPI were enrolled in this study. Two groups were compared for age, sex, pain intensity (Visual analogue scale, VAS), duration of pain, MMPI scores and psychological impression from MMPI results. RESULTS: Pain intensity and chronicity were more severe and longer in trigeminal neuralgia group than atypical facial pain. However, some MMPI profiles such as hypochondriasis and hysteria were significantly elevated in atypical facial pain. Pain intensity and duration did not correlate with MMPI profiles in each group. Meaningful psychological impression from MMPI results which were interpreted by one psychologist were shown in 13 patients of trigeminal neuralgia (32.5%) and 14 patients of atypical facial pain (66.7%). Especially, psychosomatic disorder was most frequently found in atypical facial pain patients (47.6%). CONCLUSIONS: Atypical facial pain have more psychologic and emotional problems than trigeminal neuralgia, regardless of pain intensity and chronicity. Therefore, psychologic evaluation and treatment should be considered in atypical facial pain.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze psychological characteristics of elderly patients. METHODS: The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) data of 110 elderly patients who visited the department of psychiatry was analyzed. We examined differences of MMPI-2 score according to sex and age. The elderly were classified into four clusters with similar characteristics. RESULTS: Depression, suicidal ideation, low motivation score was high in total sample. Depression, subjective depression, mental dullness, lassitude-malaise, psychasthenia, and fears score was higher among females than males. Through the cluster analysis, elderly were classified into four types of ‘high profile’, ‘1-2-7 profile’, ‘6-7-8-0 profile’, and ‘low profile’. CONCLUSION: The elderly patients who visited the department of psychiatry complain depression and helplessness. Females complained depression and anxiety more than males. Elderly were classified into four types of patients with high somatic complaints ‘high profile’, patients with high depression and helplessness ‘1-2-7 profile’, patients who were dissatisfied and could blame others ‘6-7-8-0 profile’, and patients who needed additional interview and projective test ‘low profile’.
