BACKGROUND: Weight overestimation of Korean Americans may be associated with dietary habits and preferences for foods and tastes. METHODS: The subjects were 100 Korean Americans in New York City and LA and 100 Koreans in Seoul, who were 20-29 years old. Self-reported questionnaire consisted of age, height, weight, length of residence in US, preferences for 10 foods and 5 tastes, dietary habits and perception of self body image. Korean Americans were further divided into 3 groups according to length of residence in US. RESULTS: More Korean American women underestimated (27.3% vs. 5.8%), and less overestimated their body weights, than Korean women (31.8% vs. 53.8%, P=0.008). Korean Americans who overestimated their own body weights had significantly higher preference for salty taste and significantly lower dietary habit score regarding regular meals. CONCLUSIONS: Overestimation of self body size, rather than longer residence in US may be associated with the undesirable dietary habit and taste preference of Korean Americans, highlighting the importance of correct body image.

2.Presenteeism in Clinical Nurses: An Integrative Literature Review.
Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing 2017;26(3):160-171
PURPOSE: This review aimed to integrate the results of studies related to presenteeism in clinical nurses and to suggest directions for future research. METHODS: The search for relevant studies was conducted using six data bases according to predetermined index terms, “nurs*” and “presenteeism.” Thirteen studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected and analyzed. RESULTS: This review found that the conceptual use and scope of presenteeism were not consistent among the studies. Most studies investigated the nurses' health-related variables as the most important factors and reported their positive association with presenteeism. Presenteeism was also found to be associated with job stress, job satisfaction, social support, and organizational culture and had a negative impact on nursing outcomes such as patient safety. CONCLUSION: The research on presenteeism can be used as a way to explain outcomes in the field of nursing where direct measurement of productivity is difficult. Presenteeism is a multidimensional problem, and a theoretical foundation is needed to explain the presenteeism of clinical nurses.

Journal of Korean Medical Science 2022;37(45):e332-
Background:
It remains unclear whether coffee intake is associated with the risk of hypertension. This study aimed to investigate the association between coffee intake and the risk of hypertension by using a meta-analysis of cohort studies.
Methods:
PubMed and Embase were searched using keywords in September 2022 to identify studies on coffee intake and the risk of hypertension.
Results:
We included a total of 13 longitudinal cohort studies, which involved a total of 64,650 incident cases of hypertension among 314,827 participants. In a random effects model meta-analysis of all the studies, coffee intake was not significantly associated with the risk of hypertension (relative risk [RR], 0.97; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.90–1.05; I2 = 58.0%; n = 13). In the subgroup meta-analysis, coffee intake was associated with a decreased risk of hypertension in studies conducted in America (RR, 0.93; 95% CI, 0.87–0.98; I 2 = 4.6%; n = 5) and in low-quality studies (RR, 0.92; 95% CI, 0.88–0.96; I2 = 0.0%; n = 7). In the remaining subgroup meta-analyses by amount of coffee intake, gender, type of coffee (decaffeinated vs. caffeinated), smoking, and years of follow-up, coffee intake was not significantly associated with the risk of hypertension.
Conclusion
The current meta-analysis showed that coffee intake is not associated with the risk of hypertension.
4.Regional Factors on the Self-rated Health of Wage Workers
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2018;29(1):21-32
PURPOSE: This study attempted to identify regional disparities of self-rated health among Korean wage workers and to investigate the influencing factors on them. METHODS: The study subjects were 25,069 workers in 16 regions who were extracted from the 2014 Korean Working Condition Survey (KWCS). A multilevel analysis was conducted by building hierarchical data at individual and regional level. RESULTS: In this study, ‘financial autonomy rate’ and ‘current smoking rate’ were identified as regional factors influencing the workers' self-rated health. When the socio-demographic and occupational factors of the workers were controlled, ‘current smoking rate’, a health policy factor, explained the regional disparity of workers' health status. CONCLUSION: We found that the health status of workers can be affected by the health behavior level of the whole population in their residential area. In order to improve the health status of working population and to alleviate their regional health inequalities, it is necessary to strengthen macro and structural level interventions.

Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2017;28(4):463-471
PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify the association between psychosocial work environment and depressive symptoms among Korean teachers. METHODS: Data on 235 elementary school teachers and 341 middle and high school teachers was obtained from the 2014 Korean Working Condition Survey. The effect of psychosocial work environment on depressive symptoms was determined by multiple logistic regression analyses. RESULTS: The prevalence of depressive symptoms was 18 % in elementary school teachers and 24 % in middle and high school teachers. When adjusted for demographics and other socio-psychological and environmental factors, ‘social community at work’ served as a protection factor for Korean teachers' depressive symptoms. In addition, ‘cognitive demands’ in elementary school teachers and ‘social support from supervisors’ in middle and high school teachers were found to be predictors of depressive symptoms. CONCLUSION: Interventions to increase ‘social community at work’ and ‘social support from supervisors’, and to decrease ‘cognitive demands’ may be helpful for Korean teachers at risk of depression.

Korean Journal of Legal Medicine 2011;35(1):57-61
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a rare, serious complication of assisted reproductive procedures for fertility treatment. Although most cases of OHSS are mild to moderate in nature, its severe form causes life-threatening complications including respiratory distress, renal failure, liver dysfunction, and thromboembolism because of hemoconcentration. We herein report a rare autopsy case of severe OHSS in a 29-year-old woman who underwent controlled ovulation induction. Three days after the administration of human chorionic gonadotropin, she developed abdominal pain and distension. Two days after, she suddenly developed respiratory arrest, hypotension and semicomatose mentality and died of respiratory failure. At autopsy, multifocal thromboembolism was detected in the internal carotid arteries, internal jugular veins, pulmonary arteries, inferior vena cava, renal arteries, and deep leg veins. And there were cerebral edema, anasarca, pleural effusion, massive pulmonary edema, ascites, and bilateral ovarian enlargement. Microscopically, the bilateral ovaries showed multiple well-developed cyst formations consisting of membrana granulosa and theca interna. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first autopsy report of severe OHSS with multifocal arterial and venous thromboembolism.

PURPOSE: Oral ondansetron is a safe and effective antiemetic drug to facilitate oral rehydration therapy in acute gastroenteritis (AGE) with mild dehydration. We investigated the effect of oral ondansetron therapy on intravenous (IV) hydration frequency and emergency department length of stay (EDLOS) in dehydrated children with AGE. METHODS: We reviewed 15,813 children aged 12-60 months with primary diagnosis of AGE who visited a tertiary care university-affiliated hospital emergency department. The enrolled children were divided into the pre- (from January 2009 to June 2011) and post- (from January 2016 to June 2018) ondansetron groups according to the implementation of oral ondansetron therapy in the emergency department. As primary outcomes, IV hydration frequency, EDLOS, and hospitalization rate were compared between the 2 groups. As secondary outcomes, EDLOS and hospitalization rate were compared between the children in the post-ondansetron group who underwent the therapy, and those who did not. RESULTS: Of 7,990 enrolled children, 3,300 (41.3%) were designated as the post-ondansetron group, and among them 1,093 (33.1%) underwent oral ondansetron therapy. This group showed a lower IV hydration frequency, a shorter median EDLOS compared to the other group (55.8% vs. 61.9%, P < 0.001; 175.0 vs. 223.0 minutes, P < 0.001, respectively), and a higher hospitalization rate (9.9% vs. 7.9%, P < 0.001). The children in the post-ondansetron group who underwent the therapy showed a shorter median EDLOS and a lower hospitalization rate compared to those who did not (142.0 vs. 205.0 minutes, P < 0.001; 2.9% vs. 13.4%, P < 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION: Oral ondansetron therapy may reduce IV hydration frequency and EDLOS in dehydrated children with AGE, and can be considered in those having severe vomiting.

Sturge Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare, congenital neurocutaneous syndrome. We rarely experienced neurocutaneous disorders in forensic practice but there are unexpected sudden deaths of patients with SWS due to epilepsy, intracranial hemorrhage, thromboses and secondary accident. We introduce a case of drowning death probably due to an epileptic attack of a person diagnosed as a patient of SWS by an autopsy. We review some of the neurocutaneous syndromes and a discussion of autopsy approach is presented.

Topoisomerase IIα has been a representative anti-cancer target for decades thanks to its functional necessity in highly proliferative cancer cells. As type of topoisomerase IIα targeting drugs, topoisomerase II poisons are frequently in clinical usage. However, topoisomerase II poisons result in crucial consequences resulted from mechanistically induced DNA toxicity. For this reason, it is needed to develop catalytic inhibitors of topoisomerase IIα through the alternative mechanism of enzymatic regulation. As a catalytic inhibitor of topoisomerase IIα, AK-I-191 was previously reported for its enzyme inhibitory activity. In this study, we clarified the mechanism of AK-I-191 and conducted various types of spectroscopic and biological evaluations for deeper understanding of its mechanism of action. Conclusively, AK-I-191 represented potent topoisomerase IIα inhibitory activity through binding to minor groove of DNA double helix and showed synergistic effects with tamoxifen in antiproliferative activity.
