Objective To reduce birthrate of severe thalassemia children of this area and improve population diathesis. Methods The red blood cell indices analysis was carried out on all of the samples of 2 218 couples.GapPCR and RDB method were used for α-thalassemia genotyping and β-thalassemia genotyping. Results 277 cases of thalassemia (12.49%) were identified among the total cases.220 cases were with α-thalassemia(9.92%),which including 198 cases of--SEA/αα,11 cases of-α37/,7 cases of-α4.2/αα,57 cases were with β-thalassemia(2.57%),the types of mutation were CD41/42 (-TTCT),IVS2nt-654 (C→T),CD17 (A→T),-28 (A→G),TATAbox29 (A→G),CD71/72(+ A).42 carrier couples were detected for thalassemia and the fetuses were subjected prenatal diagnosis:3cases of Bart's edema,7 cases of β-thalassemia homozygote. Conclusions Neonates with major thalassemia can be clarified and even avoided by screening the incidence and types of genicmutations. Thus setting up the system of prenatal screening-prenatal diagnosis-selective abortion is effective to avoid the birth of neonates. And it is vital to improve the quality of human being.
2.Galectin-3 and ischemic stroke
International Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2023;31(4):275-279
Ischemic stroke is a disease with high incidence, high disability and high mortality rates. As a key regulator of microglia activation and proliferation, galectin-3 may have dual effects on ischemic stroke. This article reviews the structure and function of galectin-3, as well as its roles in ischemic stroke.

Objective:To investigate the protective effect of liriodendrin on acute myocardial infarction in rats and to explore the related mechanisms. Methods:From January to December 2019, 30 SPF male Wistar rats with a body weight of(200±10)g were randomly divided into a sham operation group, a control group, and a liriodendringroupwith 10 rats in each group using the numerical sampling method. The liriodendron group was intragastrically administered with a liriodendrinsolution(10 ml/kg)once a day from 5 days before myocardial infarction model construction to 3 days after surgery. The control group and the sham surgery group were intragastrically administered with 10 ml/kg normal saline. After surgery, high-sensitivity troponin T levels were measured in the three groups.Cardiac function of the rats was assessed using echocardiography on the 3rd day post-surgery.Then, the rats were sacrificed, followed by hematoxylin-eosin(HE)staining and TdT-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling(TUNEL)staining of cardiac tissues and measurement of interleukin(IL)-1β and tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α)levels.Western blot and real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR)were used to detect the expression of apoptosis-related proteins and transcriptional activity.Results:High-sensitivity troponin T levels in the liriodendrin group[(1.74±0.63)μg/L]were lower than in the myocardial infarction group[(3.54±1.60)μg/L]at 2 hours after surgery( t=2.69, P<0.05). Echocardiography showed that, compared with the myocardial infarction group, the ejection fraction was higher in the liriodendrin group, and the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter, left ventricular end-systolic diameter, left ventricular end-diastolic volume and left ventricular end-systolic volume were lower in the liriodendrin group( P<0.05). Histological staining showed that the myocardial tissue of the control group was severely damaged, with infiltration of a large number of in flammatory cells. The number of TUNEL-positive cells in the liriodendrin group(56.66±2.414)was statistically significantly reduced, compared with in the myocardial infarction group(76.55±1.843)( t=6.55, P<0.05). The levels of IL-1β and TNF-α in the myocardial infarction group were higher than those in the liriodendrin group( P<0.05). The expression of apoptosis-related proteins in the liriodendrin group was lower( P<0.05)and the transcriptional activity of mRNA was also lower( P<0.05)than in the myocardial infarction group. Conclusions:Liriodendrin may protect cardiomyocytes after myocardial infarction in rats by inhibiting local inflammation and cell apoptosis.

ObjectiveTo ascertain the causes of a food poisoning incident and provide references for the prevention of similar incidents in the future. MethodsCase investigation was conducted through field epidemiological investigation methods, and suspicious meals and foods were searched by the analytical epidemiological method. A food hygiene investigation was conducted in the establishment involved and samples of suspicious food, processing steps, and cases were collected for laboratory testing. ResultsA total of 91 individuals meeting the case definition were identified, resulting in an attack rate of 14.97% (91/608). The main clinical manifestations included abdominal pain (97.80%), diarrhea (84.62%), nausea (62.64%), vomiting (72.53%), fever (12.09%), and increased white blood cells (90.11%). The peak incidence occurred from 16:00 to 18:00 on June 15. The epidemic curve showed a point-source exposure pattern, with an incubation period of 1 h minimum and 10 h maximum, and an average of 5 h. Analytical epidemiological studies indicated that lunch on June 15 was the suspicious meal (χ2=38.78, P<0.001), and those who consumed cold-dressed tofu with preserved eggs had a significantly higher risk of falling ill compared to non-consumers (χ2=105.21, P<0.001). Laboratory testing results revealed Vibrio parahaemolyticus detected in 1 employee’s anal swab and 18 cases’ anal swabs. Staphylococcus aureus was detected in 1 food ingredient and 1 case’s anal swab. The remaining samples tested negative. ConclusionThe cause of this food poisoning incident is Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The cause is the canteen’s supply of cold-dressed tofu with preserved eggs beyond its permissible business scope, potentially leading to cross-contamination during food processing. Regulatory authorities should strengthen routine law enforcement inspections and monitoring. Food service establishments should strengthen food safety awareness, standardize operational procedures in strict accordance with relevant national laws and regulations and food safety standards, and strive to reduce the occurrence of foodborne disease incidents at their source.
