China Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy 2005;0(07):-
Objective:To discuss the effects of BuShen capsule on sexual function of castrated rats model. Methods:The castration model animals set up by removing testicle were divided into 5 groups, the large, middle and small-dose BuShen capsule groups,Nanbao capsule group, saline group and blank control group. At the end of the experiment, change of the latency time of penis erection, the incubation period and the number of their seizing of the female rats and the coefficient of the penis, the foreskin gland, seminal vesicle, prostate, and levator ani muscle in rats were determined.Histological section was made and changes in form of organization were observed under the light microscope, the levels of serum testosterone and cortisol in the rats were measured by radioimmunoassay.Result:Large, middle and small-dose of BuShen capsule could shorten the penile erection latency of castrated rats model.Large and middle-dose could decurtate the latency of their seizing female rats,large-dose could increase the number of their seizing female rats,middle-dose could increase the number of their seizing female rats.Large and middle-dose could obviously raise the levels of serum cortisol,middle-dose could improve the coefficient of the levator ani muscle. Conclusion:BuShen capsule could encourage the secretions of prostatae and seminal vesicle, accrete the cavernous body of penis and promote the growth of levator ani muscle.BuShen capsule has the good effects of invigorating the kidney and strengthening yang.

China Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy 2005;0(08):-
Objective: To explore the protective effects of jujube polysaccharide on liver injury model mice induced by ethionine and paracetamol. Methods: Liver injury mice model was induced by gavage with ethionine suspension or intraperitoneal injection of parcharide. ALT levels in serum and liver histopathological changes were measured, the protective effect of jujube polysaccharide on liver injury model mice induced by ethionine or paracetamol was observed. Results: Mice liver injury model can be successfully established by gavage with ethionine or intraperitoneal injection of paracetamol. High and low-dose jujuba polysaccharide and the glucurolactone groups can significantly lower the ALT levels in serum and significantly improve pathological changes in liver injury model. Conclusion: Jujube polysaccharide had good protective effects on liver injury model mice induced by ethionine or paracetamol.

Objective To investigate the possibility of taking bees as laboratory animals and establishing the new rapid ag-ing animal model. Methods The bee model was established under environment of high temperature, lack of oxygen, and vibration. The appropriate conditions for establishing the model were investigated by observing the changes of appearance and measuring the activities of the total SOD and GSH-PX in the whole homogenate of bees. Meanwhile, the changes of biopsy were observed. Results Bees aging model could been set up at the conditions of appropriate temperature, hypoxia and noise. The model has obvious indications of aging, such as reduced activity of SOD and GSH-PX, and obviously pathological changes of brain organization and intestinal tissue. The aging indications are not the most seriously and are suit-able for the studies on drug improving the aging indications. Conclusion Being in the enviroment of high temperature (35 ℃), hypoxia and noise for4 hours, can result in the better bee aging model.

OBJECTIVE:To study the effects of total glucosides of Verbena officinalis on chronic nonbacterial prostatitis (CNP)in mice and its anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. METHODS:60 mice were randomized into normal group(normal saline),model group(normal saline),positive group(Qianliekang tablet 1.5 g/kg)and total glucosides of V. officinalis high-dose, medium-dose and low-dose groups(0.2,0.1,0.05 g/kg),with 10 mice in each group. CNP model was induced in those groups ex-cept for normal group;mice were given relevant medicine once a day for consecutive 21 days since 8th day of modeling. The white blood cell count, lecithin corpuscle density and pathological changes of prostate samples were observed. 50 mice were randomly di-vided into model group(normal saline),positive group(Aspirin tablet 0.3 g/kg or Dexamethasone acetate tablet 0.01 g/kg)and to-tal glucosides of V. officinalis high-dose,medium-dose and low-dose groups(0.2,0.1,0.05 g/kg);they were given relevant medi-cine intragastrically once a day for consecutive 7 days. The xylene-induced ear swelling test (Aspirin tablet as positive drug) and cotton-pellet granuloma test (Dexamethasone acetate tablet as positive drug) were conducted to determine the the degree of ear swelling and the net weight of granuloma. The acetic acid writhing test and hot plate test(Aspirin tablet as positive drug)were car-ried out to determine the latency period of writhing, the times of writhing within 20 min and pain threshold. RESULTS:Compared with model group, white blood cells count of prostate tissue were lowered while the density of lecithin corpuscles were increased significantly in medicine groups;the pathology of prostate tissue were improved significantly in positive group and total glucosides of V. officinalis high-dose and medium-dose groups, and mostly were 0 and Ⅰ grade. The degree of ear swelling and the net weight of granuloma were markedly reduced in positive group and total glucosides of V. officinalis high-dose and medium-dose groups;the times of writhing within 20 min decreased in medicine groups, and the latency period of writhing prolonged and pain threshold in-creased in positive group and total glucosides of V. officinalis high-dose group. All of the results showed statistical difference(P<0.05 or P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS:Total glucosides of V. officinalis can improve CNP in mice, and shows good anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of Huatan Xiezhuo Recipe (HTXZR) on fatty liver of rats. METHODS: Forty-eight SD rats were randomly divided into five groups: normal control group, untreated group, Dongbao Gantai Tablet (DBGTT)-treated group, low-dose HTXZR-treated group and high-dose HTXZR-treated group. Fatty liver was induced in the rats by hyperlipid diet and intraperitoneal injection of tetracycline. The pathological changes of liver tissues in rats were observed, and the liver function, serum leptin, insulin resistance index, triglyceride (TG) and free fatty acid (FFA) in the liver were detected. RESULTS: The levels of serum leptin, insulin resistance index, FFA and TG in rats of the three treated groups were lower than those of the untreated group (P<0.01), and such effects in the HTXZR-treated groups were more significant than those in the DBGTT-treated group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The main action mechanisms of HTXZR in treating fatty liver are probably to promote the lipid metabolism, decrease the leptin and insulin resistance.
