Objective To study the effects of lanthanum on cell multiplication and intracellular Ca2+([Ca2+]i) concentration in primary cultured astrocytes of rats. Methods The primary cultured astrocytes of rats were exposed to 0.25,0.5,1.0 and 2.0 mmol/L LaCl3 for 24 h and 48 h.The cell multiplication was measured by MTT;[Ca2+]i concentration was determined by the fluorescent Ca2+ indicator Fura-2/AM.Results After astrocytes were incubated with 0.25,0.5,1.0 and 2.0 mmol/L LaCl3 for 24 h and 48 h,the survival rate of astrocytes was 86.24% and 82.99%,82.26% and 79.14%,52.32% and 49.97%,38.04% and 35.15% respectively, which was significantly decreased compared with the control group(P

Objective To detect the expression of E-cadherin and ?-catenin in breast carcinoma and analyze the relationship between E-cadherin and ?-catenin and the clinicopathological features. Methods The expression of E-cadherin and ?-catenin in breast cancer, paracarcinoma breast tissue, simple mastoplasia and atypical mastoplasia were detected by immunohistochemical method and the results were compared. Results The abnormal expression rates of E-cadherin and ?-catenin in breast cancer tissue were 51.9% and 61.1 %,respectively. Abnormal expression of E-cadherin was significantly correlated with histological grade. Abnormal expression of ?-catenin was significantly correlated with TNM staging, axillary lymph nodes metastasis and postoperative distant metastasis. COX multiple factor analysis showed that neither E-cadherin nor ?-catenin expression was an independent indicator for the prognosis of breast cancer. Conclusions Abnormal expressions of E-cadherin and ?-catenin are correlated with occurrence and development of breast carcinoma. Abnormal expressions of E-cadherin and ?-catenin are good indicators to judge invasion and metastasis of breast carcinoma.

BACKGROUND:Seed cells from different sources have different ability in cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation, which can led to bioactive diversity in constructed tissue engineered products. OBJECTIVE:To explore the differentiation ability of different original fetal osteoblasts during constructing tissue engineered periosteum at molecular level. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:The contrast observation was performed at the Central Laboratory of Shaanxi Provincial Peoples’ Hospital between July 2007 and July 2008. MATERIALS:The human amnion cells(consent was obtained from the puerperant) were prepared human acellular amniotic membrane(HAAM) . METHODS:Periosteum-origin osteoblasts(POB) and cranium-origin osteoblasts(COB) were seed on HAAM,cultured for 2,4,6,8,and 10 days, and then their total RNA was extracted, which were reversely transcripted to cDNA. The real-time PCR analysis was used to reveal core binding factor ?l(Cbfa1) ,Osterix, and the cycle threshold was also measured. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The expression of Cbfa1,Osterix,as well as osteocalcin. RESULTS:On tissue engineered periosteum, the expression of Cbfa1 in POB was lower than it that in COB(P

Objective To explore the CT features in CD_(117)-weak and CD_(117)-negative gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GIST).Methods The CD_(117)-weak and CD_(117)-negative Gist proved by pathologically and sur- gically in 13 cases were retrospectively analyzed. Results The tumor was located in the stomach in 6 cases, small intestine in 4 cases, colorectum in 2 cases, greater omentum in one case. The most common clinical manifestations were abdominal pain or discomfort in 6 cases, hematemesis or melena in 3 cases.Malignant tu- mors occurred in 8 cases.Benign tumors occurred in 5 cases.A soft tissue was identified in all 13 cases in CT examination. The CT examinations revealed cystic regions and bleeding in 5 cases.Calcification was not noted within the masses in all cases. The mean diameter of benign tumors was 3.4 cm?2.8 cm while that of malig- nant tumor was 7.5 cm?6.2 cm.All the cases underwent operation, the resection rate was 100%.After follow up from 6 months to 4 years in 10 cases,1 case died of tumor recurrence and metastasis, the others survived. Conclusion CD_(117)-weak and CD_(117)-negative Gist occurred more common in the stomach.CT is useful in lo- cation and differentiation of CD_(117)-weak and CD_(117)-negative gastric stromal tumors with regard to benign or malignant.Surgery is the main method for final diagnosis and treatment.
