Objective To investigate and analyze the relationship of the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and carotid artery atherosclerosis with acute cerebral infarction (ACI).Methods Fifty-nine patients with ACI were assigned as experimental group and thirty healthy people as control group. The serum level of hs-CRP was measured, and the carotid plaques and the changes of carotid intimal-medial thickness (IMT) were examined by color Doppler ultrasonography. Then the relationship between the serum level of hs-CRP and the severity of disease was analyzed. Results The serum level of hs-CRP was higher in ACI group than in control group [(5.96± 1.52)mg/L vs. (1.78±1.02) mg/L, t=15.383, P<0.01]. The detection rates of carotid plaques and the increased carotid IMT were higher in ACI group than in control group [77.97% vs. 36.67%, x2 =12.92, P<0.01; (1.18±0.17) mm vs. (1.02±0.15) mm, t=4.544, P<0.05]. The hs-CRP levels were higher in the severe cases [(15.68±1.45) mg/L] than in moderate cases [(4.16±1.39)mg/L] and mild cases [(1.88±0.34) mg/L, t=37. 217, 25. 243, both P<0.01]. Conclusions The elevated levels of hs-CRP have overt clinical significances for the atherothrombotic cerebral infarction. Early determination of hs-CRP is helpful to evaluate patient's condition and prognosis.

Objective To analyse the distribution characteristics of major allergens initiating allergic diseases in children from rural Shanghai. Methods Eight hundred children with allergic diseases from rural Shanghai (rural ease group), 450 children with allergic diseases from urban Shanghai (urban ease group) and 100 healthy children from rural Shanghai (rural normal control group) underwent skin prick tests (SPT), and children of rural case group were subdivided into infant group, preschool age group and school age group according to age. The positive rates of allergens and SPT were compared among groups. Results The positive rate of SPT of rural case group was significantly higher than that of rural normal control group (73.38% vs 26.00%, P<0.05), and was significantly lower than that of urban ease group (73.38% vs 80.22%, P<0.05). Dermatophagoidesfarinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus were the major allergens in rural ease group, with the positive rates of 57.88% and 59.13%, respectively. Except weed and rubber, there were significant differences in positive rates of the other allergens between rural ease group and the other two groups(P<0.05). There were significant differences in positive rates of SPT among different age groups of rural children with allergic diseases (P<0.05). Conclusion Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus are the major allergens in children with allergic diseases from rural Shanghai, whose positive rates of SPT are lower than those of children with allergic diseases from urban Shanghai. The positive rate of SPT is related to age to some extent.

Objective:To investigate the association of muscle mass loss with atherosclerosis in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods:A total of 322 patients with T2DM aged≥60 years old were divided into muscle mass loss group( n=152) and non-muscle mass loss group( n=170) according to their appendicular skeletal muscle mass index(ASMI). All participants underwent physical examination, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry check, carotid and lower extremity ultrasound, as well as laboratory tests. Results:Among 322 patients, 49(15.22%) patients were suffered from sarcopenia and 152(47.2%) patients with reduced muscle mass. The carotid and lower extremity atherosclerosis grades in the muscle mass loss group were significantly higher than those in the non-muscle mass loss group( P<0.05), with lower body mass index(BMI), T-score, ASMI, uric acid, and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance index( P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that carotid atherosclerosis and lower extremity atherosclerosis were risk factors for muscle mass loss while BMI and 25-(OH)D 3 were protective factors for muscle mass loss. There existed a consistency in carotid atherosclerosis grade and lower extremity atherosclerosis grade of elderly patients with T2DM( P<0.01). Conclusion:Atherosclerosis has a predictive value for early sarcopenia in elderly patients with T2DM.

This article dealed with the effects of processing method and duration on the major bioactive components (sinigrin and sinapine thiocyanate) in Brassica juncea. The contents of sinigrin and sinapine thiocyanate in decoctions of raw and processed B. juncea were determined and compared by high performance liquid chromatography on a Alltima C18 column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) at 35 degrees C with the acetonitrile-0.1% phosphoric acid as the mobile phrase in gradient elution. The detection wavelength of sinigrin and sinapine thiocyanate was set at 227 nm and 326 nm, and the flow rate was 1.0 mL x min(-1). It was found that with the extended processing duration, the contents of sinigrin and sinapine thiocyanate first increased and then decreased: i.e., 0-2 minutes they increased gradually (for sinigrin, by 9.65% in processed products and 356. 10% in powder; for sinapine thiocyanate, by 12.82% in processed products and 3.41% in powder), and achieved their highest content at 2 min; then, decreased during the next 5 minutes (for sinigrin, by 80.35% in processed products and 82.09% in powder; for sinapine thiocyanate, by 14.29% in processed products and 17.54% in powder), suggesting that processing duration could significantly affect the contents of bioactive components in B. juncea, enzymatic hydrolysis of sinigrin when the seed is crushed in the present of moisture may be responsible for the content change. It is recommended that the slow fire should be the best processing method and the raw seed could be used directly in the water extracts related industrial production.
