Objective To investigate the methods and therapeutic effects in reconstructing and restoring the knee stability of floating knee injury. Methods A total of 38 patients with floating knee injury combined with acute knee instability treated from January 2000 to January 2006 were retrospectively studied to evaluate the efficacy of different procedures. Results All patients were followed up for 1-4 years (mean 1.5 years), which showed fracture healing in all patients. There occurred postoperative wound infection in three, internal fixator loosening in two, anterior cruciate ligament laxity in one and osteearthritis in two. According to Score of Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) for knee function, the knee function was excellent in 32 patients, good in five and fair in one, with excellence rate of 84%. Conclnsions During the treatment of floating knee injury, attention should not only be paid to the reconstruction of the bone continaity, but also to the restoration of ligaments, meniscus, joint capsule and muscles.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2008;25(1):1-6
Geodesic active contour is a useful image segmentation method, but it may fail to segment the objects disturbed by complex noises. Prior knowledge on certain object is a powerful guidance in image segmentation. In this respect, we represent the prior knowledge of region and shape of certain object in a form of speed field and incorporate it into Geodesic Active Contours. The prior region constrains the zero level set evolving in certain region and the prior shape pulls the curve to the ideal contour. Applications in a large quantity of cardiac valve echocardiographic sequences have shown that the algorithm is a more accurate and efficient image segmentation method.

Journal of Experimental Hematology 2005;13(1):151-153
To evaluate the clinical efficacy of recombinant human Interleukin 11 in the treatment of pre-aplastic anemia, six patients with pre-aplastic anemia were injected with rhIL-11 of 6 million units once a day during 7-14 days. Blood platelet counts were taken on day 8, 15, 30 and 60 after the treatment, and bone marrow examination was performed on day 15 as compared with those before treatment. The results showed that platelet counts in 3 out of 6 patients increased remarkably (50%), one of the six increased moderately (16.7%), another case of the six increased slightly (16.7%), platelet in one out of six did not significantly increase (16.7%), the total efficacy rate is 83.3%, the amount of megakaryocyte in bone marrow of all six patients increased, the side effect of the rhIL-11 treatment was light. In conclusion, the efficacy of recombinant human Interleukin-11 in the treatment of thrombocytopenia patients with pre-aplastic anemia is satisfactory. As the number of the cases is too small to conclude, further exploration needs accumulation of more applications.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical efficacy of delayed open reduction and internal fixation with minimally invasive percutaneous locking compression plate for the treatment of type II and III Pilon fractures.
METHODSFrom January 2007 to September 2009, 32 patients with type II and III Pilon fractures were treated with open reduction and anatomic plate fixation (AP group) and minimally invasive percutaneous locking compression plate osteosynthesis (LCP group). There were 11 males and 6 females in AP group, with an average age of (37.4 +/- 13.3) years (ranged, 19 to 55 years). And there were 10 males and 5 females in LCP group, with an average age of (34.6 +/- 11.3) years(ranged, 21 to 56 years). The operating time, fracture healing time, aligned angulation and ankle function were compared between the two groups.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up, and the during ranged from 12 to 25 months, with a mean of (15.0 +/- 1.7) months. The average operation time was (76.5 +/- 8.3) min for AP group and (58.3 +/- 3.4) min for LCP group; the average time of fracture healing was (20.5 +/- 0.4) weeks for AP group and (15.7 +/- 0.2) weeks for LCP group; the total angulation between anterior posterior film and lateral film was averaged (6.6 +/- 0.5) degrees for AP group and (3.6 +/- 0.2) degrees for LCP group. As to above index, the results of LCP group were better than those of AP group (P < 0.05). According to Kofoed criteria for ankle joint, the results of LCP group were better than those of AP group in ankle joint pain, wakling and ankle joint function (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe method of minimally invasive percutaneous locking compression plate internal fixation is effective in the treatment of Pilon fracture with less invasion, faster bone union, more stabilized fixation, quicker recovery of ankle function and fewer complications, which is more advantaged for type II and III Pilon fractures.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the prevalence of chronic prostatitis in men with premature ejaculation.
METHODSThe segmented urine specimens before and after prostatic massage and the expressed prostatic secretion specimens from 106 patients with premature ejaculation and 38 controls were evaluated by microscopic and/or bacteriological studies. The prevalence of premature ejaculation was also investigated in 120 patients with chronic prostatitis.
RESULTSProstatic inflammation was found in 46.2% and chronic bacterial prostatitis in 34.7% of the subjects with premature ejaculation, respectively. Compared with the controls, the findings were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The prevalence of premature ejaculation in the patients with chronic prostatitis was 47.5% (57/120).
CONCLUSIONSChronic prostatic inflammation may play a role in the pathogenesis of some cases of premature ejaculation and it is important to give a careful examination of the prostate before initiating any therapy for premature ejaculation.

OBJECTIVEo clone angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2) gene, to analyze its amino acids and nucleotides sequence and to investigate tissue distribution of ACE2 in adult mice.
METHODSThe full-length ACE2 encoding sequence was amplified from the RNA of mice kidney tissue by RT-PCR technique, cloned into plasmid pGEM-T easy, then subcloned into plasmid pcDNA3.1+. After identification of DNA sequence, the recombinant plasmid pmACE2 was transfected into Cos7 cells with lipofectin reagent. The transient expression of ACE2 molecule was detected by SDS-PAGE. Sequence analysis was conducted with CLUSTALX program. Tissue distribution of ACE2 in mice was detected by RT-PCR.
RESULTSA fragment about 2.6 kb was amplified and the recombinant plasmid pmACE2 was confirmed by two-enzyme digesting and DNA sequencing. The cloned DNA sequence was consistent with that previously reported, except for 3 variations: A701G, T1102C and T1330C. SDS-PAGE proved that expression of a soluble, truncated products form of ACE2 was a glycoprotein of approximately 80 kD in Cos7 cells. The predicted mice ACE2 sequence contained an N-terminal signal sequence (amino acid residues 1-18), a single HHEMGHIQ zinc-binding domain (amino acid residues 373-380) and C-terminal membrane anchor (amino acid residues 738-765). Mice ACE2 showed 84 % identity with that of human, and 90 % identity with that of rat. Expression of ACE2 was the greatest in lungs, hearts and kidneys, and moderate levels were also detected in testes and livers.
CONCLUSIONMice ACE2 gene has been cloned and successfully expressed in vitro. The tissue-specific expression of ACE2 in different species is not identical.

Objective To investigate the efficiency of European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation(EuroSCORE)in predicting in-hospital mortality for the patients after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI). Methods Retrospective analysis was conducted on the patients who had undergone PCI in our hospital since year 2005 to 2007. We used both cumulative EuroSCORE score and logistic EuroSCORE to predict the in-hospital morality and to analyze the correlation between the predicted mortality and the actual mortality. Results According to the additive EuroSCORE, we divided the patients into three groups, the additive EuroSCORE 0-2 were divided into low-risk group,3-5 were divided into mid-risk group and ≥6 into high-risk group. The actual in-hospital mortality rates were 0%, 0.47% and 6.09% respectively. The EuroSCORE model demonstrated an overall relation between the EuroSCORE ranking and the incidence of in-hospital mortality(P<0.001). Results from the multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the EuroSCORE was an independent in-hospital mortality predictor(P<0.01). Conclusion The EuroSCORE risk model and the in-hospital mortality were significantly correlated, indicating that the model was a promising method for predicting the in-hospital mortality of PCI patients.
