Nine morphologic traits, plant height, ground diameter, leaf length, leaf width, leaf area of plant, leaf fresh weight, blades, length/width ratio, plant fresh weight of Anoectochilus roxburghii from 13 different areas were determined for correlation analysis, path analysis and principal components analysis. Different source of morphological trait variation coefficient of A. roxburghii was 2.96% -12.59%, plant fresh weight was significant positively correlated with ground diameter, plant height and leaf number, and positively correlated with leaf fresh weight. Path analysis showed that plant height had the largest positive direct effect on plant fresh weight, the leaf fresh weight and blades number had indirect effects on the plant fresh weight. Through principal component analysis, morphological traits of A. roxburghii can be divided into "Determinants of high-yielding morphology" and "Determinants of leaf production". In the actual process of production and breeding of A. roxburghii, we should pay attention to plant height, leaf fresh weight, blades numbers and other traits.

The morphological index of the seedlings including the plants height, the ground diameter, the leaf amounts, the fresh weight of the whole plant and the ratio of height to diameter was measured and the principal components were analyzed so as to determine the grading index, and stepwise cluster analysis was applied for clustering analysis. Pot experiments were used to measure the indicators of plant growth and development, the yield and the quality. The results showed that the height and ground diameter were determined as the quality indicators of the seedlings grading and the standard quality grading of seedlings of Anoectochilus roxburghii was initially set up, different seeding plants influenced the plants growth and the yield. The ground diameter of the class I was larger than that of the class II and III, so as the yield. The seedling grading had no obvious effect on the internal quality of medicinal materials. The results of the study provide the basis for standard cultivation of A. roxburghii.

Chinese Medical Journal 2013;(1):118-123
Background Chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) has been associated with abnormalities in the liver, which is the most important organ for drug metabolism. This study aimed to investigate the effect of CIH on theophylline metabolism in mouse liver. Methods Eight C57BL/6J mice were exposed to CIH for 12 weeks.Eight C57BL/6J mice were exposed to room air as a control group.Serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase were measured.Liver histology was observed by light and electron microscopy.Total hepatic cytochrome P450 concentration was measured.Hepatocytes were isolated and incubated with 15 mg/ml theophylline for four hours. After incubation, the theophylline concentration in the supernatant was measured and the theophylline metabolism rate was calculated. Results CIH did not affect the serum transaminase levels.Livers from mice exposed to CIH showed hepatocellular edema, and liver cells had fuzzy rough endoplasmic reticulum under the electron microscope. The theophylline metabolism rate was significantly inhibited by CIH compared with controls; (16.60±2.43)% vs.(21.58±4.52)% (P=0.02).The total liver cytochrome P450 concentration in the CIH group was significantly lower than in the control group;(0.83±0.08) vs.(1.13±0.21) mol/mg microsomal protein (P=0.004).Conclusion CIH decreases theophylline metabolism by mouse hepatocytes, which may correlate with the downregulation of cytochrome P450 expression by CIH.

OBJECTIVETo study the pharmacokinetic of 10-Hydroxycamptothecin HCPT by intraperitoneal administration.
METHODSix dogs were given HCPT by intraperitoneal perfusion: HCPT 2 mg x kg(-1), dissolved in 300 mL NS. During the course of experiments, peritoneal fluids and blood were sampled using a standardized protocol. The concentration of HCPT in all samples was determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
RESULTThe area under the curve (AUC) of peritoneal fluids was significantly highly as compared to the AUC of femoral vein and portal vein (P < 0.001).
CONCLUSIONThese experiments demonstrate that intraperitoneal chemotherapy has significant effect on the pharmacokinetics of IP route of HCPT administration. This method should be a more reasonable chemotherapy for the prevention of recurrence and liver metastasis of gastric cancer, colon cancer and ovary cancer after radical resection.

OBJECTIVETo measure the serum level of secretory type II phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) in patients with coronary heart disease and investigate the possible relationship with IL-8 and LPA.
METHODSA total of 110 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), 63 patients with stable coronary heart disease (SCHD) group and 89 non-CHD control patients were studied. Serum levels of sPLA2, IL-8, LPA and hs-CRP were measured and the correlation among these parameters was observed.
RESULTSThe levels of serum sPLA2 [(68 +/- 17) U/ml], IL-8 [(182 +/- 80) pg/ml] and LPA [(2.85 +/- 0.36) micromol/L] were significantly higher in CHD patients than those in controls [sPLA2: (55 +/- 12) U/ml; IL-8: (119 +/- 33) pg/ml; LPA: (2.34 +/- 0.36) micromol/L, all P < 0.01], and sPLA2 and IL-8 were also significantly higher in ACS patients [sPLA2: (71 +/- 18) U/ml; IL-8: (195 +/- 78) pg/ml] than those in SCHD patients [sPLA2: (63 +/- 12) U/ml; IL-8: (159 +/- 79) pg/ml, both P < 0.01]. Serum sPLA2 level was positively correlated with hs-CRP, IL-8 and LPA (r = 0.203, P = 0.007; r = 0.658, P < 0.01; r = 0.231, P = 0.005, respectively). The relative risk of having CHD is 6.248 (P < 0.01) with the sPLA2 level above 63.75 U/ml.
CONCLUSIONElevated serum sPLA2 level is a risk factor for CHD.

OBJECTIVETo investigate occupational health status in migrant female workers in artificial gem cottages in Guangxi and to provide reference evidence for drawing up countermeasures to protect migrant female workers from occupational hazards.
METHODSTwo thousands and ninety five migrant female workers in artificial gem manufacturing cottages in Wuzhou City, Guangxi Province, were randomly recruited to participate in the investigation. The standardized occupational health questionnaires were used to collect the information of demographic characteristics, occupational exposure and medical symptoms by interviewing with persons.
RESULTSArtificial gem manufacturing cottages in Wuzhou were mainly composed of family-workshops. There were only simple and crude hygienic facilities. Major occupational hazards included dusts, noise, vibration, hydrofluoric acid, and light stimulation. The mean age of workers was 30. Mean exposure duration was 5 years. There was no occupational health monitoring records for these workers in the past years. Major symptoms included back pain, eye discomfort, and headache. The incidence of discomfort symptoms increased with age.
CONCLUSIONOccupational health protection and monitoring in artificial gem manufacturing cottage, in Guangxi have not been performed. More effective occupational health education and administration need to implement in family-type handicraft manufacturing.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2006;26(6):867-869
OBJECTIVETo continuously observe the long-term effects of synovectomy for improving joint damage and quality-of-life in patients with the rheumatoid knee.
METHODSTwenty-one consecutive patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) involving 24 knees underwent open synovectomy from November 1988 to January 1997 between November 1988 and January 1997. The changes in radiographic damage were assessed with Larsen score on plain films before and 6 months after surgery with subsequent annual assessment for 8 years, and the functional recovery of the patients was also evaluated with Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) at the same time.
RESULTSThe radiographic joint damage and juxta-articular osteoporosis or bone erosion was ameliorated after surgery in all the patients. Larsen score began to decrease 6 months after the operation, and the best effects were achieved at one year and maintained for at least 5 years after the operation, but then followed by recurrence of joint lesions. HAQ scores were improved after the surgery with the best effects observed 6 months after the operation lasting for over 2 years. HAQ score gradually decreased 4 years after the operation till reaching the preoperative scores.
CONCLUSIONSynovectomy in the patients with rheumatoid knee not only reverses progressive joint damage, but also improves juxta-articular bone erosions and the patients' quality of life. However, radiographic joint damage and functional deterioration may recur due to hyperplasia of the inflammatory synovium in the long term after operation, suggesting that the inflammatory synovium participates in local joint damage with bone erosions and systemic pathologic process of RA.
