Journal of Southern Medical University 2009;29(4):765-767
OBJECTIVETo explore the role of abnormal Tbx3 expression in the pathogenesis of breast cancer.
METHODThe total RNA of 4 breast cancer cell lines and 5 normal breast samples was extracted by routine Trizol method. After reverse transcription of the total RNA into cDNA, Tbx3 mRNA expression was detected in these samples by real-time PCR. Immunohistochemistry was used to examine the differences in Tbx3 protein expression between 60 breast cancer samples and 34 normal breast tissue samples.
RESULTSCompared to normal breast tissue samples, the breast cancer cell lines showed markedly increased Tbx3 mRNA expression. The results of immunohistochemistry demonstrated a significant upregulation of Tbx3 protein expression in the 60 breast cancer tissues in comparison with the normal breast tissues, as was consistent with Tbx3 mRNA expressions in these tissue samples.
CONCLUSIONSThe mRNA and protein expressions of Tbx3 are markedly upregulated in breast cancer cell lines and tissue samples, suggesting that Tbx3 may serve as one of the malignant biomarkers in the pathogenesis of breast cancer.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the potential of Gomphidius viscidus, a kind of ectomycorrhizal fungi, for phytoremediation of anthracene in soil.
METHODSAbsorptioe changes of micro-habitat were studied in detail.
CONCLUSIONEctomycorrhizal plants have a strong potential for remediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarn characteristics of both active and inactivated mycelia.
RESULTSA high calculated adsorption capacity of 1,886.79 mg/g and 1,515.15 mg/g at 25 °C, pH 6.0 for active and inactivated mycelia respectively, was obtained based on Langmuir model. The ANT biosorption was more ideally characterized by the Langmuir model than by the Freundlich model. The biosorption of anthracene to biomass was extremely fast and could be modeled with pseudo-second order adsorption kinetics. Moreover, ectomycorrhizal mycelia demonstrated a strong ability to adjust the physiological process to get adapted to the change of micro-habitat.

It's difficult to identify Aucklandiae Radix and Vladimiriae Radix because of their similar composition. In this paper, UPLC method was used to establish their UPLC fingerprint to identify them with the mobile of acetonitrile -0. 05% phosphoric acid water solution by gradient elution at the detection wavelength of 238 nm. Clustering analysis and principal components analysis showed that Vladimiriae Radix was significantly different from Aucklandiae Radix. Eight common peaks and twelve common peaks were defined respectively in Aucklandiae Radix and Vladimiriae Radix herbs by fingerprint analysis. Six of them were identified as syringoside, chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid A, isochlorogenic acid B, costunolide and dehydrocostuslactone by comparing with standard references. There are four peaks in all of Vladimiriae Radix samples and in none of Aucklandiae Radix samples. So UPLC fingerprint can be used to identify these two herbs.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2003;19(3):265-268
AIMTo research the influence of noxious stimuli on the electric activities of pain-related neurons in several subnuclei of Amygdaloid Nucleus in rats.
METHODSTrains of the electric impulses applied to the sciatic nerve were used as noxious stimuli. The discharges of neurons were channeled off by glass microelectrode.
RESULTSPain-related neurons existed in several subnuclei of Amygdaloid Nucleus. When the noxious stimuli were administered the frequency of discharges of pain-excited neurons (PEN) was increased while the frequency of pain-inhibited neurons (PIN) was decreased to the lowest level. The electric activities of PEN and PIN were matched with each other. Intraperitoneal injection of morphine (10 mg/kg) antagonized the effects of noxious stimuli on the pain-related neurons.
CONCLUSIONSeveral subnuclei of Amygdaloid Nucleus play an essential role in perceiving, integrating and transmitting the pain impulses. They are a part of the central nervous system in which pain information is controlled and managed.

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of 320-row CT angiography (CTA) in the microsurgery of parasagittal meningiomas. Methods Thirty-eight patients with parasagittal meningiomas, admitted to our hospital from May 2008 to August 2010 and confirmed by CT and MR1,were examined with the 320-row CTA to observe the relations between tumor blood vessels and brain vessels, and between the tumor and the skull. Results The 320-row CTA provided clear three-dimensional images of the meningioma and its relations with the adjacent vessels and the skull. The condition of blood flow in the parasagittal sinus was shown and the proper surgical approach to remove the neoplasm was demonstrated. Simpson graded Ⅰ and Ⅱ resection was achieved in 26 and 12 patients, respectively. All the patients recovered well without postoperative deaths. Temporary paralysis or aggravated paralysis was noted in 8 after the operation and 5 of them recovered. Conclusion The 320-row CTA, being able to provide images of the parasagittal meningioma, and demonstrating its relations with the skull, adjacent vessels and sagittal sinus, can supply the vital information to choose the proper surgical approach and provide the useful message to manage the sinus during the operation, which has a great value in preoperative evaluation of the parasagittal meningioma.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Qindan capsule (QC) on collagen synthesis and the mechanism underlying the process in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs).
METHODSTwentyfour SHRs were divided into three groups: the hypertension model group, the QC treatment group, and the losartan treatment group. Eight Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats were used as the normal control group. The systolic blood pressure (SBP) of the rats was monitored, and the thoracic aorta adventitia of the rats was segregated. The expressions of transforming growth factor 1 (TGF-β1), Smad3, and collagens I and were measured by histological staining and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.
RESULTSThe SBP was significantly higher in the model group than in the normal control group (P<0.01). However, a significant SBP-lowering effect was observed in QC or losartan treatment groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01) after 3 weeks of treatment. QC-treated rats showed a decrease of approximately 40 mm Hg, and the losartan-treated rats showed a decrease of approximately 50 mm Hg at the end of treatment compared with the beginning of treatment. The protein and gene levels of TGF-β1, Smad3, and collagens I and in the model group were significantly increased compared with those in the normal control group (P<0.01). However, the levels were significantly decreased in the QC or losartan treatment group compared with the model group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). However, there was no significant difference between the QC and losartan treatment groups (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSQC could exert its antihypertensive effect through down-regulating TGF-β1-stimulated collagen expressions. The TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway may be involved in this process.

OBJECTIVETo calculate heritabilities of personality disorders (PDs) in twin population.
METHODSBased on informed consent, we used Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire (fourth-version) as our screening tool to study the adult twins (aged 20 - 70 years) in Qingdao city. There were 324 twin pairs whose zygosity had been determined. Structural equation modeling was used to estimate the heritabilities by 242 same-sex twin pairs.
RESULTSThe best-fitting models yielded a heritability of 68.26% (60.26 - 74.78) of overall PDs, 59.00% (49.22 - 67.17) of cluster A, 64.99% (56.24 - 72.16) of cluster B, and 63.66% (54.72 - 71.02) of cluster C. There were significant genetic effects for schizotypal, narcissistic and dependent, explaining 49.96% (37.94 - 60.14), 52.89% (41.85 - 62.24) and 68.87% (60.80 - 75.40) of the variance respectively. No genetic effects were found on Histrionic, but common environmental effect accounted for 54.08% (44.50 - 62.43) of the total variances.
CONCLUSIONPD was mainly determined by genetic factor. These findings may provide evidence for future research on PD.
