Objective To investigate students' view about the laboratory medicine curriculum and teaching reform,and to provide reference for further reform and development. Methods The students specialized in laboratory medicine in School of Medicine,Shanghai Jiaotong University were involved in the survey.Questionnaires were answered and analyzed.The research method of expert consultation was adopted. Results Students had some different opinions for course content,structure and so on,and they expected more clinical practice,more hands operation,and more teachers' guidance.Conclusion To train laboratory technicians,it was necessary to build a reasonable system of professional courses and train practical talents.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of curcumin(Cur)on trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid(TNBS)induced colitis and to investigate cytokines change in colon mucosa,spleen and sera.Methods Colitis was induced in SD rats by intrarectal injection of TNBS(100 mg/kg).Experi- mental animals were divided into negative control group,TNBS group and Cur therapeutic group(Cur, 30 mg?kg~(-1)?d~(-1),intraperitoneal injection).Expression of cytokines mRNA in colon mucosa was observed by RT-PCR,intracellular cytokines of interferon(IFN)-?and interleukin(IL)-4 in splenocytes were detected by flow cytometry(FCM),concentrations of IFN-?and IL-4 in sera were determined by enzyme-link immunosorbent analysis(ELISA).Results After treatment with Cur,macroscopic scores (3.9?1.0 vs.2.2?0.7),myeloperoxidase(MPO)activity(15.0?2.6 vs.7.3?1.4),mRNA of IFN-?(1.02?0.07 vs.0.06?0.02,mRNAof IL-12(0.29?0.05 vs.0.11?0.01)and the ratio of IFN-?/IL-4(11.44?0.97 vs.0.38?0.10)in colon mucosa,proportion of IFN-?CD4~+(31.7?7.5 vs. 21.1?3.7)and the ratio of IFN-?/IL-4 CD4~+(19.9?5.1 vs.6.1?1.8)in splenocytes,concentra tions of IFN-?[(1528?159)pg/ml vs.(513?14)pg/ml] and the ratio of IFN-?/IL-4(19.5?4.1 vs. 4.2?0.6)in sera were all decreased(P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).Meanwhile,mRNA of IL-4(0.09?0.01 vs.0.15?0.04)and IL-10(0.28?0.08 vs.0.63?0.12)in colon mucosa,proportion of IL-4 CD4~+ (1.6?0.5 vs.3.4?1.1)in splenocytes and concentrations of IL-4 in sera[(81?15)pg/ml vs.(124?20) pg/ml] were all increased after the treatment of Cur(P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).Conclusions Cur showed ther- apeutic effects on TNBS-induced colitis,and the mechanism might be through regulating the balance of Th1/ Th2 in colon locally and systematically.

Background Research showed that exposure of 530 nm monochromatic light can induce myopia in animal,and retinal Müller cells participate in the formation of myopia.However,the effect and mechanism of retinal Müller cells during the formation of monochromatic light induced-myopia is below understood.Objective This study was to investigate biologic characteristics of rat retina Müller cells and the expression of cell factors in Müller cells after being illuminated by the 530 nm monochromatic light,and discuss the role of the retina Müller cells in myopia induced by monochromatic light.Methods Immortalized rat retinal Müller cells were cultured with DMEM containing 10％ fetal bovine serum in a self-made cell incubator with monochromatic light by adjusting luminance of 530 nm LED source.The cells were exposed to 125,250 and 500 lx luminance respectively for 6,12 and 24 hours,and the cells without light-irradiation were used as control.The growth of the cells under the different light time and different illuminations was described by MTT as the absorbance at the wavelength 570 nm (A570),and cell cycle analysis of Müller cells was performed by flow cytometry 48 hours after cultured,and the expression of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1),tyrosine hydroxylase(TH),inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) and basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF)in the cells were detected by reverse transcription PCR(RT-PCR),respectively.Results The Müller cells were uniform in size with polygonal shape and defined edges.No statistically significant difference was found in the A570 value in the cells of the 125 lx and 250 lx illuminated groups compared with the control group in various time points(P＞0.05).However,significant lowing was seen in the A570 value in the cells of the 500 lx illuminating for 12 hours and 24 hours in comparison with the control group (P =0.013,0.001).Compared with the control group,the ratio of the number between G2 and G1 phase was not significantly declined in 125 lx,250 lx illuminating for 48 hours (P =0.073,0.330),and the ratio in the 500 lx illuminating group was significantly lower than those in the 250 lx illuminated group and the control group (P =0.028,0.038).RT-PCR revealed that the expression of TGF-β1 mRNA in the cells was higher in the 250 lx illuminated group than that of the 500 lx illuminated group (P=0.006).The expression of iNOS mRNA was gradually upregulated in the 250 lx illuminated group compared with the control group (P =0.001),but that in the 500 lx illuminated group was downregulated (P =0.000).The expression of bFGF mRNA was raised in the 125 lx and 250 lx groups but reduced in the 500 lx group when compared with the control group(P=0.002,0.000,0.005).Also,the expression of TH mRNA was significantly increased in the 250 lx group(P=0.000),but decreased in the 500 lx group(P=0.000,P=0.001).Conclusions The monochromatic light of 530 nm can inhibit the growth of rat Müller cells and downregulate the expression of myopia-related cell factors and therefore exert effect in the formation of myopia.

In the present study, the effects of adriamycin on antioxidant enzymes, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase(SOD), and cardiac lesions were studied, furthermore, the protective influence of supplementation of copper and/or zinc on cardiac toxicity induced by adriamycin were investigated. Fourty four wistar rats weighing 130-160g were randomly divided into I-IV groups. All animals were fed on basic ration. The group I was given zinc sulphate 0.60mg/kg weight intraperitoneally once every third day for 49 days. The group I was given zinc 0.60mg + copper carbonate 0.14mg/kg weight intraperitoneally once every third day for 49 days. Groups I and I were given adriamycin 12mg/kg weight intraperitoneally. Group I was given adriamycin 12mg/kg weight intraperitoneally. Group IV was given physiological saline. The results suggested that the activities of GSH-Px and SOD were significantly decreased and cardiac lesions were characterized by numerous intracellular vesicles formed by dilation of the sarco-plasmic reticulum and lysis of myofiber accompanied by focal necrosis in group III. The activities of GSH-Px and SOD were apparently higher and cardiac lesions were much milder in the groups I and II, compared with those in the group VI.It may be concluded that trace elements (zinc and copper) can exert protective effects on cardiac lesions induced by adriamycin. Comparatively, much better results were observed in group I than that in group I.

ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical biocharacteristics,treatment,prognosis and the factors that influence prognosis of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma(ATC). MethodsThe clinical data of 108 ATC patients treated at our institution from January 1981 to April 2009 and follow-up results were retrospectively reviewed.ResultsThe median survival time of 108 patients was 6 months.The overall 1-year,2-year,5-year survival rate was 40.3％,30.9％ and 21.9％ respectively.Univariate analysis showed the factors influencing the prognosis of ATC patients were tumor size, distant metastases, stage,leukocytosis, radiotherapy, localresection, postoperativeradiotherapyandmultimodalitytherapy.Multivariate analysis indicated that tumor size,stage,leukocytosis and radiotherapy were independently associated with the prognosis.ConclusionsAnaplastic thyroid carcinoma is rare but highly aggressive malignancy with poor prognosis. ATC patients should receive multimodality therapy,especially local resection and postoperative radiotherapy.Even inoperable patients could benefit from radiotherapy.

Objective:To explore the clinical value of remote ECG consultation for primary medical institutions. Methods:Remote ECG consultation data for medical institutions of different levels in Hubei Jianli county were sta-tistically analyzed.Results:In county hospitals of this area,there were 1334 cases of ECG consultation,the positive rate was 41.00% (547/1334),and the three abnormal ECG types with highest incidence rate were arrhythmia (27.29%),left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH,9.15%)and ST-T change (2.62%)in order;in rural health rooms of this area,there were 723 cases of ECG consultation,the positive rate was 55.19%(399/723),and the three ab-normal ECG types with highest incidence rate were arrhythmia (34.02%),ST-T change (11.07%)and LVH (5.39%)in order.Conclusion:The remote ECG consultation is easy to perform.It can rise the detection rate of transient abnormal ECG events in rural area,where is lack of ECG equipment and personnel,so it is worthy of ex-tending.

Objective To explore the impact of morphological changes of mitral valve coaptation on ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR),and observe coaptation image of mitral valve in systole in patients with IMR by using real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (RT3D-TEE).Methods RT3D-TEE was performed on 112 patients with IMR and 38 patients without MR as the control.Patients with IMR were divided into group of mild IMR (n =46),group of moderate IMR (n =45) and group of severe IMR (n =21),according to the severity of mitral regurgitation.Mitral valve quantification (MVQ)software of Qlab 8.1 was used for image post-processing of RT3D-TEE.The coaptation parameters was measured,included length of anterior combination(LCA3dlf),length of posterior combination(LCP3dlf),area of anterior combination(A3DTANT) and area of posterior combination (A3DTPOST) at end-systole.Then,these coaptation parameters of mitral valve were compared statistically.Logistic regression assessing was applied for analyzing the results.Results Coaptation line of anterior and posterior leaflets was almost same in normal subjects.With increasing of mitral regurgitation,a tendency to prolong in LCA3dlf and LCP3dlf were observed in IMR (P ＜0.05).Compared to that in mild and moderate IMR groups,besides A3DTANT and A3DTPOST,LCA3dlf and LCP3dlf were also increased significantly in severe IMR group (P ＜0.05).LCP3dlf was an independent correlation factor of IMR by Logistic regression analysis.The sensitivity was 73.3％ and the specificity was 94.7％ when LCP3dlf≥32 mm was regarded as cut-off point,and the area under the ROC curve was 0.949 (0.900～0.999).Conclusions Abnormal coaptation of anterior and posterior leaflets of mitral valve might be one of main cause of IMR.Involution structure of mitral valve before surgery is helpful for surgeon to select an optical surgical procedure and evaluate effects of treatment in patients with IMR.
