Flavonoid naringin is widely distributed in various types of plants and is an important component of herbal Drynaria. In previous studies, Drynaria has been demonstrated to have inhibitory effects on inflammatory responses and bone destruction and exert anabolic effects on bone, has been widely used in the clinical treatment. Naringin, was in the stage of experimental yet. The experimental results have confirmed that naringin suppressed inflammation including arthritis by lowering the expression of inflammatory cytokines, and the mechanism can be explained as reducing the expression of NF-κB. Naringin has been shown to increase osteoblast proliferation by increasing the expression of BMP-2, inhibit osteoclast activity by reducing the expression of RANKL. In animal experimental, naringin was useful for osteoporosis, and the mechanisms are in-depth studies. Research in the field of traditional Chinese medicine and orthopedics, naringin as a explicit material structure in the components of Drynaria, has been concerned about the experimental studies, it is not only prosperity the development of traditional Chinese medicine research, but also ready for clinical studies anti-inflammatory and bone effects of naringin in the future.

Objective To study the clinical value of transcervical resection under hysteroscope in treatment of placental remnants. Methods From March 2003 to April 2006,14 cases of placental remnants were treated with transcervical resection under hysteroscope. They included 3 cases of term birth, and 11 cases of midtrimester induction of labor.Drug pretreatment was performed for those who had more than 80 U/L of blood beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (?-hCG) level, including mifepristone (RU486), Chinese herbs and methotrexate(MTX).RU486 was taken orally at 25 mg,three times daily and misoprostol was given 600 ?g at one dose on the third day.MTX was given by deep intramuscular injection at 1 mg/m~2 if ?-hCG was higher than 150 U/L.Bipolar evaporation was used in the operation with alternation of resection and forceps holder under ultrasonographic supervision. After operation a circular contraceptive device was placed followed by hormone periodic treatment such as estradiol valerate for 2-4 months. Results Under the monitoring by ultrasonography,14 operations were all performed smoothly. The follow-up was from 6 months to 2 years.Menstruations in almost all the cases were recovered, and 3 cases of those were pregnant and delivered smoothly 4,6 and 7 months after operation. Conclusion The transcervical resection under hysteroscope is useful in treatment of placental remnants with obvious effects, little trauma and few complications.

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of health education on controlling of coal-burning-borne endemic fluorosis(referred to as endemic fluorosis) in Guizhou, and to provide a scientific basis for development of control strategies. Methods A total of 37 counties were selected in Guizhou province, and 3 townships were chosen in each project county.Heath educational activities were carried out in the classes of grade 5 in the Central Primary School of each selected township. In the meantime,3 villages were chosen in each selected township where the health education for women of child-bearing age in the community was carried out.Survey on knowledge questionnaire of endemic fluorosis control was conducted among 30 students of grade 5 in the Central Primary School and 15 women of childbearing age of each selected township before and after the health educational activities. Results The knowing rate of endemic fluorosis control of pupils in all the 37 counties increased from 45.03%(14637/32505) to 89.79%(52898/58910),of women of child-bearing age increased from 38.97% (5729/14700) to 76.55%(19198/25080) after the health education.ConclusionsThe knowing rate of endemic fluorosis control among pupils and women of child-bearing age is remarkably increased after implementing the health education projects. They have better life and health habits, and the project has reached desired goal.

Pathway engineering was the third generation of gene engineering. Its main goals were to change metabolic flux and open a new metabolic pathway in organism. Application of recombinant DNA methods to restructure metabolic networks can improve production of metabolite and protein products by altering pathway distributions and rates. Ethanol is the most advanced liquid fuel because it is environmentally friendly. Enhancing fuel ethanol production will require developing lower-cost feedstock, and only lignocellulosic feedstock is available in sufficient quantities to substitute for corn starch. Xylose is the major pentose found in lignocellulosic materials and after glucose the most abundant sugar available in nature. Recently a lot of attentions have been focused on designing metabolic pathway of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in order to expand the substrate of ethanol fermentation, because it is a traditional ethanol producing strain and has wonderful properties for ethanol industry. However, it can not utilize xylose but convert the isomer, xylulose. Many attempts are based on introducing the genes in the pathway of xylose metabolism. The further research includes overexpressing the key enzyme or decreasing the unimportant flux. The sugars in lignocellulose hydrolyzates, therefore, could be efficiently utilized. Here, we describe the ethanol pathway engineering progress in ethanol fermentation from xylose with recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinical efficacy and adverse reaction of compound Duzhong Jiangu granule (CDJG) on knee joint osteoarthritis (KJO) of Gan-Shen deficiency with stasis in tendon and muscle syndrome.
METHODSThe randomized controlled method was adopted in this study, comparative study was conducted in 400 patients in the treated group treated with CDJG and 200 patients in the control group treated with Zhuanggu Guanjie pill (ZGP).
RESULTSThe total effective rate in the treated group was 92% and the curative-markedly effective rate was 47%, which were higher than those in the control group respectively. Moreover, CDJG showed superiority in improving symptoms and with shorter initiating time of action as compared with ZGP. However CDJG had the effect more favourable for patients of mild condition.
CONCLUSIONCDJG is a kind of effective and safe medicine for treatment of KJO.

Objective To develop specific targeted magnetic biomarkers which can selectively mark the senile plaques in Alzheimer' s disease (AD) and verify its feasibility and validity. Methods Aβ1-40 peptide and Tat-PTD ( Tat-protein transduction domain) was binded with dextran-coated ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide ( USPIO) particles.Visualization of plaques in vivo in Alzheimer transgenic mice was investigated at 7.0 Tesla using T2 sequences after intravenous administration of the targeted nanoiron contrast agent and verified by histological staining. Results The targeted nano-iron contrast agent could enter the cultured neural stem cells, and was able to accelerate T2 relaxation rates of water protons in the cells and negatively reinforce the T2 signal intensity in the labeled cells.Plaques were specifically detected in vivo by magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI) and correlated well with histological staining after injection of nano-iron contrast agent into the APP/PS1 mice. Conclusion The targeted nano-iron contrast agent has the ability of selectively labeling the senile plaques in AD brain tissues in vivo, which might enable the early detection of plaques by MRI and can be further applied in the studies of early diagnosis of AD.
