Objective To explore the effect of oxytocin on uterine fibroids treated by ultrasound ablation. Methods Eighty-two single points in 29 uterine fibroids from 26 patients were sonicated with magnetic resonance imaging guided by high intensity focused ultrasound before and after using oxytocin. The required total energy, sonication time required to reach 60 ℃ and the acoustic energy for increasing 1 ℃ of temperature at the single point before and after using oxytocin were compared. Results Before intravenous infusion of oxytocin, the average total sonication energy required to reach 60 ℃ was (5320 ±910) J and it took (21 ±20) seconds for sonicating a single point, the energy required for increasing 1 ℃ was (255 ± 302) J. In contrast, after intravenous infusion of oxytocin, the average total sonication energy required to reach 60 ℃ was (2890 ±325) J, and it took (12 ±7) seconds for sonicating a single point, the energy required for increasing 1 ℃ was ( 126 ± 94 ) J. Those three index all reached statistical difference ( P = 0.002, P = 0.001, P= 0.002, respectively). Conclusion It seemed that Oxytocin could significantly decrease the energy required for ablating uterine fibroids, shorten treatment time and improve the treatment efficiency.

Objective To explore the effect of preoperative chemotherapy for children with malignant extragonadial germinoma. Methods Twenty patients with malignant extrogonadal germinoma had been treated with preoperative chemotherapy from Mar.2003 to Mar.2007.Protocol 1 of chemotherapy was to improve PEB:(cisplatin plus etoposide plus bleomycin A5);Protocol 2 was VAC(vincristine plus actinomycin D plus cyclophosphamide) the average time span of the chemotherapy was 16 weeks.Upon completion of chemotherapy,tumor resection was performed.The content of alpha fetoprotein(AFP) was determined before operation and compared with the content before chemotherapy.Re-gular follow-up procedure was taken after operation. Results All 20 patients received chemotherapy and underwent operation.The removal rate of resection operation was 100%,the process of operation was smooth.The volume of tumors in 14 patients decreased over 50% compared with those before chemotherapy.The response rate was 70%.The content of AFP decreased significantly in 15 patients(75%).Fifteen patients had been living without tumor for up to 2 years,for 5 cases the survival time went beyond 5 years. Conclusions Malignant extrogonadal ger-minoma in children grow infiltratively,bring detrimental effects to neighboring organs,and bring obstacles to resection operation.Chemotherapy for children with malignant extragonadal germinoma before operation can reduce volume of tumor and bleeding during operation,raise the resectability rate and lower the content of AFP.It will enhance the effectiveness of operation and improve prognosis.Therefore,it can be used as a conventional clinical method.

Considerable knowledge about the biology of forest tree has been gained in the recent years by the application of the new genomic technologies to study tree growth and development as well as the response of trees to biotic and abiotic stresses. Proteomics is becoming an important content in the biology of forest tree. A review is given about the progress in forest tree proteomics research in the areas of population genetics, genetic mapping, stress physiology, organs and tissues, and wood formation, etc. Furthermore, forest tree proteome database is briefly introduced. Finally, the prospect of proteomics is discussed.

Objective To investigate the effect ofYindanxinnaotong (YDXNT) capsule on learning and memory abilities, super oxide dismutase (SOD) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the hippocampus of rat models of vascular dementia (VD). Methods Animals were randomly divided into sham-operated group,VD vehicle group (Group VD) and YDXNT treatment group (Group VD+YDXNT); the 4-vessel occlusion was employed to establish the VD rat models in the Group VD and Group VD+YDXNT,while rats in the sham-operated group were not performed occlusion of the bilateral common carotid artery.Rats of the Group VD+YDXNT were given 1 mL liquid (9 granules of YDXNT into 360 mL normal saline) through intragastric administration 3 times daily for a consecutive 4 weeks; and rats of the other 2 groups were given the same volume of saline.The changes of learning and memory abilities were observed by Morris water maze test; the activity of SOD and the content of MDA in the hippocampus were measured. Results As compared with those in rats of the Group VD, the learning and memory abilities in rats of the Group VD+YDXNT were significantly improved (P＜0.05):time in finding the platform was obviously decreased and swimming distance in finding the platform was obviously shortened in rats of Group VD+YDXNT.As compared with those in rats of the Group VD,the activity of SOD in the hippocampus was significantly increased and the content of MDA was obviously decreased in rats of the Group VD+YDXNT (P＜0.05). Conclusion YDXNT could increase oxygen radical metabolism to improve the learning and memory abilities of rats with VD.

The role of autophagy is known to be highly complex and context-dependent, and may be characterized as both tumor suppression and tumor promotion in some tumors, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer. This review outlines recent advances in the studies of the involvement of autophagy in the development, progression and treatment of prostate cancer, focusing on autophagy modulation during androgen deprivation, with a special discussion on the regulatory effect of androgens on the autophagy of prostate cancer cells. A critical evaluation and analysis of the studies suggests that autophagy inhibition combined with androgen deprivation therapy is a promising approach to the treatment of prostate cancer.

Objective To compare BACTEC Plus aerobic and anaerobic bottles with BacT/ALERT FA aerobic bottles and FN anaerobic bottles in the ability of detecting simulated bacteremia specimens.Methods The 202 pairs of specimens were composed of 5ml sterile blood and defined loads of microorganisms.112 pairs of specimens in them also contained defined doses of antibiotics to simulate the patients undertaking antibiotic therapy.Time-to-detect(TTD)and positive percentages were evaluated in four groups,including aerobic bottles detecting aerobic bacteria,anaerobic bottles detecting anaerobic bacteria and facultative anaerobic bacteria,and aerobic bottles contained antibiotics detecting aerobic bacteria.Results The positive percentages of two kinds of aerobic bottles were both 100%.For the specimens with bacterial concentration of 10~2 and 10~3 CFU/ml,average TTDs of BACTEC Plus aerobic bottles[(13.69?3.74)h,(11.54?2.87)h]were faster than those of BacT/ALERT FA bottles [(16.76?5.62)h,(14.47?4.30)h;t=-5.674,-7.294,P

It is an important task to lab of clinical microbiology to surveille multi-drag or pan-drug resistant strains,such as penicillin-or macrolide-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae,methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA),3rd generation cephalosporin-or quinolone-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Acinetobacter baumannii,and so on.We must understand characteristics of these resistant strains to guide doctors' empirical therapy of infective diseases.
