Journal of Korean Biological Nursing Science 2021;23(3):159-169
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to analyze research trends and find whether Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) of refugees could affect structural or functional changes of brains of those under MRI, focusing on volumes, functional connectivities, and metabolites.
Methods:
A literature search was done using PubMed, Embase, RISS, and KMBase to identify studies that matched our research purpose. A total of eight studies were identified using Prisma flow diagram by two reviewers independently.
Results:
Eight studies were identified. Three studies were on North Korean defectors as subjects. The number of studies that observed structural changes, functional changes, and metabolite changes in brains was 2, 5, and 2, respectively. Although each study observed various parts of the brain, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) was observed commonly in three studies. The PTSD group showed reduction of ACC volume and N-acetyl-aspartate (NAA) metabolite in ACC compared to the non- PTSD group. When exposed to negative stimuli, the PTSD group showed higher neural activity than the non-PTSD group, but not vice versa.
Conclusion
ACC showed significant difference in volume, neural activity, and NAA metabolite between the PTSD and the non-PTSD group, resulting in significant differences in structural changes, functional changes, metabolite changes, respectively. This study showed the need for conducting more research using various biomarkers to clarify the relationship between PTSD of refugees and their brain changes.

Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injury is a common source of ulnar-sided wrist pain and it is related with instability of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), which may result in disability with everyday activities of daily life. Failure of conservative treatment leads to the consideration of surgical treatments. Among them, arthroscopic trans-osseous TFCC foveal repair of the TFCC has recently become the basis of treatment. On the other hand, the rehabilitation protocol for effective functional recovery differs from author to author, such as the immobilization method and period, joint movement recovery period, muscle strengthening exercise method, and return to daily life. Despite this, nothing has been established. Therefore, this review article introduces the rehabilitation method after arthroscopic trans-osseous TFCC foveal repair by dividing it into four steps.

In Korea, cases of direct insertion of foreign bodies into the rectum are rare in the literature. Most cases of rectal insertion of foreign bodies are associated with sexual acts and psychiatric disorder such as schizophrenia. Objects inserted into the anus are usually blunt and shaped like the male genitalia. The removal method can be varied depending on the size and shape of the foreign object, its anatomical location, and the accompanying complications. In cases wherein attempts to remove the object fail or there are rectal perforation and peritonitis complications, immediate laparotomy may be required in order to prevent serious complications such as sepsis. Here, we report on a case of rectal perforation and peritonitis due to insertion of a foreign body in a middle-aged patient, with a literature review. He inserted a sharp pig backbone in his rectum and he only had depression. The patient underwent a Hartmann's operation as well as psychiatric counseling and treatment. Thus, after removal of foreign bodies, psychiatric counseling and treatment should be carried out in order to prevent similar accidents and to minimize the need for trauma medicine.

Chinese Medical Journal 2006;119(6):454-457
BACKGROUNDNominal atrioventricular (AV) interval in dual chamber pacemaker (DDD) is not the best AV delay in the majority of patients with atrioventricular block. To find a simple method for optimizing AV delay adjustment, we assessed surface electrocardiography (ECG) for optimizing AV delay during dual chamber pacing.
METHODSDDD pacemakers were implanted in 46 patients with complete, or almost complete, AV block. Optimal AV delay was achieved by programming an additional delay of 100 ms, to the width of intrinsic P wave or to the interval between pacing spike to the end of P wave on surface ECG. Left ventricular (LV) end diastolic and end systolic volumes, ejection fraction and diastolic parameters were measured by Doppler echocardiography during both nominal and optimal AV delay pacing.
RESULTSCompared to nominal AV delay setting, LV end diastolic volume increased [to (53.2 +/- 11.3) ml from (50.2 +/- 10.2) ml, P < 0.05], end systolic volume decreased [to (26.1 +/- 9.0) ml from (27.9 +/- 8.2) ml, P < 0.05] during adjusted AV delay pacing, resulting in an increase in LV ejection fraction [to (68.2 +/- 5.3)% from (64.5 +/- 4.3)%, P < 0.05]. LV diastolic filling and isovolumic relaxation time were not significantly changed.
CONCLUSIONOptimization of AV delay by surface ECG is a simple method to improve LV systolic function during dual chamber pacing.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2020;58(9):575-582
Background:
Patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) are vulnerable to xerosis due to impaired skin barrier function, which makes moisturizing essential. Recently, zinc-alpha-2 glycoprotein (ZAG) has appeared to modulate the skin barrier function in AD, and has been proposed as a potential therapeutic molecule in AD.
Objective:
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a ZAG-containing moisturizer on restoration of the skin barrier and clinical improvement of AD.
Methods:
In this randomized, double-blind study, 42 patients (average age, 26.5 years) with mild-to-moderate AD were enrolled. The subjects were divided into two groups, ZAG-containing moisturizer or control, in which the intervention or control were applied twice a day for 4 weeks. The primary outcome was a change in the eczema area and severity index (EASI) after 4 weeks, and the secondary outcome included the transepidermal water loss (TEWL), corneometer, visual assessment score (VAS) for pruritus and sleep disturbance, and investigator’s global assessment (IGA).
Results
ZAG-containing moisturizer was well-tolerated, with a significant decrease in the EASI score compared to the control group after 4 weeks of application (p<0.05). As objective assessments of skin barrier function, TEWL also showed a significant, rapid decrease in the ZAG group compared to the control group after 2 weeks of application (p<0.05). A significant improvement in AD symptoms was observed at 4 weeks, such as the VAS score for pruritus and sleep disturbance, and IGA. Conclusion: The moisturizer containing ZAG (By the doctor Ato repair cream , Whitecospharm, Korea) effectively restored the function of the skin barrier, which led to a relief in the signs and symptoms of AD.
